Jack Wolf Knives - Back on Track

Why would a manufacturer swear you to secrecy? It’s not unheard of, but ehhhhh…. My BSometer is pegging out.🤨

Seems more likely to me that not disclosing the source might benefit you more than the Chinese factory. Just sayin’.

ETA - I really did dig that vampire one I saw mock-ups of.

These knives look fantastic. I was really hoping you were going to say they were made in Italy…

Ide love to see a single bladed square ended serpentine stockman pattern. Maybe a tall California clip style blade

I look at this photo and it puts me in the nay category. Looks a little rough for a high end product. I wish you the best and hope you have success because I really like your designs. But this just looks second rate to me.
Thank you for your feedback. Can you please elaborate? Are you referring to the Micarta, the Titanium, the blade finish?

hi AntDog, I talked to several manufacturers and there are others who would have required confidentiality as well. I think it is a relatively common practice in the OEM world. What I have I learned is that most of these knife makers are from the same town, draw from the same labor pool, and use a lot of the same suppliers. So I don't think things are as clearly delineated by manufacturer as is apparent to us overseas. I would not be surprised if a lot of work was done by subcontractors for various brands. Ultimately that is their trade secrets and I respect their desire for confidentially. My ability not to disclose is honestly a double edged sword. Sure, you could make the case that it benefits me. But people often buy for the factory, so by not being able to disclose, it casts doubt on my products. I appreciate the feedback on the Vampire! And by the way my favorite Jason movie is Jason Lives!

Rizl, I understand that sentiment. I am working on a USA made product line right now so folks who don't want to buy Chinese have another option from me. I have heard from many sources Italy has had a hard time producing product for 3rd parties over the last couple years. I think Covid really did a number on them.

The blade finish, the rest of the knife looks great.
Got it. So the manufacturer calls that a "satin" finish, which really isn't the best description I would say. It is a high end finish truth be told, but it is a certain aesthetic that is not for everyone. It changes in the light depending on how you hold it, sometimes you can't see the lines and sometimes they just pop. In that picture you commented on, there is a shadow cast onto it by my phone, which caused a bit of a dark spot. hard to avoid when I am trying to capture the grind lines. That being said, I believe they also offer hand sanded finishes, or tumbled finishes, so depending on customer feedback, I can always request different finishes. This one seems to really be popular, and I think it looks good with the rough finished Micarta and the bead blasted Ti, but everyone has different tastes. So my ears are always open and I appreciate the feedback.

I like the snick snick sound in the vid. The knife looks really cool and the blade grinds look great. What is the weight on this one? What is the closed length? I like it.

Good pictures are important. The dark spot cast by the shadow really caught my eye and my impression was flawed by the photo. I actually like as ground or hand sanded finishes if they are even. The shadow made it look like the lines were uneven to me, maybe just my perception. I have hand sanded many SS blades for various reasons, restoration from use, removal of etches etc. I think if you are successful in getting these made, they will sell.

So this one is 3.66” closed with a 2.83” blade. Weight is a light 2.2 oz!

Agreed, good pics are important. I am certainly new to photography! Much to learn and I will be careful of those shadows. But I think you will find the grinds looking real good in person. The videos help a lot too.

I am one who loves the belt finish!!

Of course, I also have a soft spot for that finish on my custom kwaiken. Holds up very well in use.

- it could be, just me speculating, that some of these very high-end knife manufacturers in China are now so in demand from high profile designers and would-be-collaborators, that in order to retain a higher kudos, the Chinese manufacturers don't disclose/wish to disclose who else they're also making for...
Another theory is the manufacturer has high to low grades in their production capability and doesn't want their name associated with their lower grade product.
