Jack's Random Tuesday Carry

It looks sharp enough to cut from a distance.
This is a Camillus I got partially assembled and with its stamps ground off. It looks like the rosewood side was attached but not ground to shape, and the other side is my walnut.

Looks exactly like a Double Eagle Imperial knife I had growing up, I believe Camillus also made it, I think mine was made in Ireland. There was some threads about Imperials too here.

The Irish Imperials were made in the Jowika factory in Listowel. Some Camillus-made parts were also shipped to Sheffield after Imperial took over the Richards group of companies, which included Rodgers and Wostenholm 👍

Here is picture of what mine looked like from another member, apparently my Imperial may have been made in the USA, not Ireland, but I won’t know for sure until I find mine again in my boxes. 😜

I know the feeling! 😁👍
I may have added too much oil to the joint so it is kind of gummy when opening the last time I found it, so, do would silicone spray work to help it open? Or is it better to use some thing to clean out the old oil residue? I want to get it back into rotation. My dad got me it as a teenager so it has more sentimental value to me.

Do you remember what sort of oil you used? It'd definitely be better to get the old oil out I reckon. WD40 or a scrub with Dawn dish soap should do the trick. Trying using a drop of fine mineral oil for lubrication. Nice that you still have it 👍

I hate to say it is either 3 in 1 oil or it may be Vaseline. I know don’t kill me.

I once used some camelia oil, which came very highly recommended. Probably the worst thing I've ever used on a knife, it stripped the original polish off a old Rodgers blade 🫣

The smell of 3 in 1 oil instantly brings me back to my childhood - sharpening my knife on an oil stone with it, tinkering in the basement, lubricating BB guns and mechanical toys with it…

I don’t actually like the smell of it on my knives now, so I use mineral oil, but if someone made a 3 in 1 oil cologne I would probably buy it 😄😄

LOL! :D I know what you mean Tom, there's a certain smell that I used to encounter when passing by old factories, when Sheffield still had working factories, that takes me straight back to my dad's overalls. I think it's the smell of oil on hot machinery
