I'm starting to wonder if it really matters much in any kind of use. But that is another very big can of worms, that I'm not sure we want to get into here.

I didn't have a 501. I have a 500 and a 503. Now I have a 501. I got a couple really nice pieces of stag on mine. And I'm still a sucker for the fancy steels, even if I'm starting to question their worth. So I'm quite pleased with my new knife. I do question the durability of the cute little distressed leather sheath. But I don't expect I'll carry it in that sheath much anyway.
