As with the Ken Erickson thread started a few days ago, today I'd like to pay homage to another of my favorite custom makers, Jerry Halfrich of San Marcos, TX.

I have been fortunate to have developed a close friendship with Jerry and his wife Janice over the past few years and so his knives have come to take on much more personal meaning (as in Ken's case) than strictly as mere objects of beauty or cutlery.

As you peruse the thread please feel free to add images of your Halfrich knives to share with the rest of our community.

First up is a prototype shadow version of Jerry's "Winchester" pattern in a handsome jigged bone. Like most Halfrich knives, this one features CPM-154 @ ~60 Rc and 416/410 stainless pins, liners and shield.

This particular knife has been used by Jerry personally to process at least three deer. Like all Halfrich knives, it's laser sharp and stays that way.

Next up is the "Winchester" pattern in beautiful stag. I was lucky enough to find this one on Jerry's table at the Blade Show a couple years back...

...and Jerry's "Pocket Hunter", also from the Blade Show:

In addition to Jerry's folders, he also makes a wide range of fixed blades, a few examples of which I'll include below:

Jerry's "SLR" (Straight Little "Rounder"):

The "Javelina" (in 52100 carbon steel):

...and last but not least, a great little paring knife:

Well, I hope you have enjoyed this sampler of the fine knives by Jerry that have found their way into my fortunate hands. Now let's see some of yours...

I love that stag Winchester!

Thanks! I couldn't believe my luck when I found it sitting on Jerry's table. (To be fair, I think it might have been before the doors opened to the public so I may have beaten some of the dealers as well. ;))

My Halfrich LB-5 Ultralight doesn't belong in the traditional forum.

I have a Winchester lockback on order...it's a carbon fiber version too, so I guess I don't have any to post :o

Go ahead and post that LB-5. It's all good...

Elliott,

Glad to see that little prototype after talking with you on the phone today. I can see why your enamored with it!

The other knife that stands out is the paring knife. Jerry has a really good sense of proportions and being able to incorporate curves into his knives.IMHO

JB, Jerry's lines really flow also on your lockback.

Thanks, Ken. Not exactly little at 4.25" closed but it is a sweet knife. (Weighs in at about 3 5/8 oz.)

The "SLR" is a nice little prototype, however. ;)

I mentioned to Jerry today that it's about time for you two to have another conversation.

After posting I got to thinking that very same thing, not exactly LITTLE!

:o

Ken

Jerry's work is par excellance! Elliott, you have quite a fine collection of his work my friend. I love that straight rounder. Isn't it nice that Jerry is offering some in the knifemakers' forum here now. Some of those straight rounders would go like Texas hotcakes...hint..hint. :)

JB, that LB-5 is so sweet. I'll bet it cuts like a laser and is so easy to carry.

Here's my Halfrich 3.5 Bose pattern trapper in pre-ban ivory. (I know ya'll have seen it before, but what the hey.) ;)

Semi-traditional watch and light. Photo = "TacTrad" :p ;)

Great knife there, Ford. Always loved that one.

I'd been working on Jerry for quite a while to get his "KnifeMaker" membership and begin to offer the occasional knife here on the forums.
Finally, after several months of us just talking about it, he decided it was time. Consider it one of my small contributions in furtherance of the forum experience. ;)

I think it'll be good for everyone involved.:thumbup:

Ford, that Trapper is sweet.

I had a wharncliffe version that I had to be very careful closing. Scary sharp is Jerry's middle name :D
