Jerry, you have some competition!

Here are my questions:

Based on the tests, does a chopper . . . ANY CHOPPER . . . need to be tougher than the Dog Father? Even if INFI is tougher, what difference does that make? And is it possible that the reason the Dog Father was only able to make 300 passes through 1-inch thick hemp rope without dulling was because that's the number of passes that were attempted? And in real world applications, wouldn't that edge-holding ability be sufficient? And does it make any sense to buy something that costs three times as much or more just to be able to hold it up in the air and say, "INFI"?

And yes. Dan IS Jerry's brother.

two words: corrosion resistance

Sense? Well, sure. I want the toughest, and am willing to pay for it.
I can get damned good, even "good enough" for less in all sorts of areas in my life, but I choose not to.
If it gives me one more chopping-use before I need to resharpen, it is worth it to me.
On top of that, I am totally infi-ddicted. It might not be 100% rational, and I am OK with that.

Edit: And yeah.....corrosion resistance...thanks Guyon.

Right Guyon. The question then is, does corrosion resistance justify the price discrepancy between SR-77 and INFI given the fact that SR-77 is sufficiently resistant to corrosion if it's properly maintained? (wash makes a good point too. The blades are coated. So corrosion shouldn't be a big deal even if they're not maintained as well as they should be.)

I got one to go with my 2 FBM CG's and 2 FBM LE's.

It might rust if I stop using it long enough but it's coated so it won't be a big deal.

If the edge holding isn't that great, that's an oppertunity for me to perfect my sharpening skills. I hope I perfect them before my Dog Father becomes S6 sized.

I'm going to go nuts on this thing, like Barney Fife with his still busting axe.

Believe me, there's simply no cure for that besides MORE INFI!!! :D

Always a sure fire way to deal with any addiction. I'll get so much INFI I'll get sick of it! Like when my dad caught me smoking as a 12 year old and made me smoke three packs in the basement! That worked. I only smoked cigarettes until I was 31!
So by that math....I'll be ALL DONE with new INFI by the time my youngest goes to college (my wife is not even pregnant yet).

:D

:D
ROTFLMAO! :D

Don't get me wrong. I'm an INFI-wielding Hog too. I don't own a lot of it because, quite frankly, I can't afford very much of it. (I just sent my child through college. Believe me, that WILL put a dent in your INFI-diction!) But given the performance and prices I'm seeing out of Dan's knives, I suspect more of my future purchases will be made out of the dumpster instead of the the trough.

ABSOLUTELY

The Scrap Yard Dog Father is a beast!!!

Scrap Yard's proprietary heat treat and deep cryo treatment on SR-77 sets the Dog Father light years ahead of any comparably priced knife and far ahead of all other (Non Busse Family) production blades on the market today!!! Is SR-77 as tough as INFI?. . . YES, it is every bit as tough as INFI in lateral bend tests!. . . Is it as strong?. . NO, but it's not that far behind!. . . Does it hold an edge as long as INFI?. . . NO! . . . Does it have to?. . . NO, it's edge holding ability is still far beyond most every other production big chopper out there! . . Is it as stainless as INFI. . . NO!. . .Not even close!. . . Who cares?. . . It's only $139.95, and it's fully coated. It will still exhibit much better stain resistance than simple carbon steels like 1095. If it starts to shows signs of oxidation, just give it a good beating and it will shine right up! :D

Bottom line: If you want to find a comparable knife to the Scrap Yard Dog Father in a Non-Busse Family knife, you're gonna have a long day ahead of you!. . . No other production blade out there will compare to the overall performance of this blade! Period!

Am I glad to see that my brother Dan is the one who owns Scrap Yard Knives? Heck yeah!!!. . . . . There's finally another manufacturer in this industry who's not afraid to drink with me!!!  . . . Although, I must admit that, I am a little afraid to drink with him!!! A long history of Mug Shots (those are shots done with mugs of beer!), angry bouncers, trips to emergency rooms, kind-hearted police, blah, blah, blah, you know the story. . .. . . All I know is that BLADE '07 ought to be a good time this year!!!!!!!!! :D

Just a little more info on corrosion resistance. Even though SR77 (modified S7) is not as corrosion resistant, there are ways certain steels react to corrosion that are good or bad. S7 is used as an outdoor, in the elements, working tool steel to grind up concrete and asphalt. If you go rent a Jackhammer, the bit is most likely S7 and it will have rust on it. However, if you look at the rust you will notice that the rusting is on the surface and there is very little pitting. It behaves similar to 5160 in that regard but is a whole lot tougher than 5160. The dissadvantage regular S7 has is lack of wear resistance. However, SR77 with added elements to get it to an Rc of 59 is impressive. And at that Rc with added elements to improve edge holding, I am sure it will do well.

Subject: Family Emergency

We just received word from the Forum Administrator at Scrap Yard Knife Works that correspondence and order processing for the Dog Father will be delayed due to a "family emergency". Here's a link to the post:

http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=17000

I think I speak for everyone in the Scrap Yard community when I ask you to please pass our best wishes along to your brother and his family.

Thank you.

This does NOT sound good.

Personally, I can wait for my knives...no rush.

I just hope whatever problem has arisen can be taken care of with no lasting harm.

Best wishes...

I will be praying for the whole family. Was going to order tonight but the heck with that. Hopefully everyone is ok and I sure as heck can wait for my order to be placed. wish all the best. Jeff:(
