Jim Wagner, Game Over

Hmmmm, never heard of the guy until I found this thread. He's not the first nor the last to use this kind of personal PR to sell something. If someone buys a knife (or any other product) solely based on these types of ads, well, they are very naive and easily impressionable. I find these types of ads quite humorous actually. These types of ads sell to "Wannabes". Being a Veteran myself, I do take it to heart when someone tries to inflate their own personna by making up shit about military service they never served in. Why is it that they always use "Special Forces" or "Navy Seals"? When someone brags about being in Special Forces without being solicited, that's usually the first give-away that they're full of shit.

Is his name Ryback?

:D

I do have a knife named for a character who was a cook in a movie. I bought it b/c it was a relatively inexpensive way to get a look at the deign work of this maker without dropping $800 for one of his custom versions of the same knife - I've since redoubled my demand to him for one of his custom folders to as yet no avail.

Since I was never in the military, I figured a cook is about as far up the ladder as I am qualified to emulate ;) But I was never a spec-ops cook, have never rappelled into an assault while whipping up a batch of fritatas, and while my bbq is good enough to make a fat man weep with joy, I never carry an M4 while drinking beer and tending the fire! I do tend to drink a lot of beer and play fetch with the dog while bbq'ing and this may in fact have some folks confusing me with someone else, but entirely of their own accord. I'm usually to busy drinking and playing fetch to encourage speculation.

I'm changing this post simply as I do not wish to confuse anyone here and have them think a very talented knifemaker is associated in any way with Jim Wagner or this Boker-produced monstrosity.

I do apologize to that knifemaker since I had in a moment of thoughtlessness inadvertently dragged his name into this debacle and he deserves better than that.

"I" know enough about knives and know what "I" need in a knife that I don't have to go by what someone else says regardless of their alleged background and/or various advertising practices to sell their knives and products. That said, if I were looking for some kitchen cutlery, and I asked for advice, I would tend to pay more attention to an actual Cook/Chef with "real" experience than someone with a questionable background in the culinary arts.;)

He is also a Sargeant in another organization:

Yes, I was on the recent cover of both Black Belt magazine ( USA ) and Blitz magazine ( Australia ) wearing my authorized Army Combat Uniform. I am a sergeant SGT/E5 with the California State Military Reserve assigned to the 40th Infantry Division (Mechanized) Support, Provost Marshal Office; a rank I have held for two years. If you would have read the article in Black Belt magazine you would have seen my unit printed there in black and white. Over 70,000 issues were printed.

Under the California Military Department the California Army National Guard (which can be federalized) and California State Military Reserve (which cannot be federalized) are authorized to wear the Army Combat Uniform (ACU). Permission was grated to me by my chain-of-command in hopes of recruiting more people into both branches of the California Military Department in a time when the United States military, and the State of California, desperately need more soldiers in the War on Terrorism, peace keeping missions, and for State emergencies.

Google for state military reserve or some such and you will find another layer of psuedo military that some states maintain.

He seems to be a very busy fellow.

I am confused which tends to be a normal state of mind for me. I thought the shortest period one serves after enlistment is four (4) years. His military record looks like he served one year.

Is that correct?

looks like it to me ira, enlistments can vary but no one (i dont think) joins with a 1 yr obligation, it also didnt say what kinda discharge he got (ie honorable, general, etc) & IIRC all the DD214's i have seen indicated what kinda discharge i wonder why this one doesnt??

i would imagine he got out in 1 yr because he either got hurt (ie in training or something), had some kinda family issues (ie a sick wife or kid) or got into trouble for something and was released.

but without further info ya just cant say WTF.

He was only in 8 months, six of those would have been in training so that leaves about 2 months as a E2. No shame in that but this guy never told anyone that story, when confronted he chose to back peddle to no effect. He claimed some long drawn out discharge story that is not verifiable. In that story he was supposed to go from basic to Warrant Officer as a 18 year old kid. I found the story very unlikely but that is of no matter. He was not and has never been a Sergent in the U.S. Army. He is not qualified for any military benefits or services through the Army. According to the standards of the Veterans Administration he is not a Veteran and is not qualified for medical services as a military veteran.

There has been much written about this guy around the net. POW Network has the most information with links to other sources. This was just one case of hundreds, in that way he is not alone so the work continues.
