John DF's January Slip GAW

waynorth waynorth Very cool of you to nominate me Charlie

But I'll have to stand aside thanks. John's work is superb as is the generosity but I NEVER use knife sheathes or purses as the late Tony Bose liked to call them. I also already have an Eric's Jack in Stag so it would be greedy ..fine item mind

But not to be a damper on things if Charlie's post get's drawn then I'd like it to go to a fine photographer, connoisseur of knives and Frenchman Corto_Malt Corto_Malt .

And I'll make an entry on Yann's behalf too, so to make the post legit. Everybody knows that Sauna was invented here- the Russians and Swedes have their equivalent knockoffs but they're a bit tame :D Few people pronounce the word correctly though (a rare Finnish word that's become international) Can't do phonetic alphabet on this Mac but think SOW (as if female pig...) NAR not sornar... There are over 2 million sauna here which could in theory accomodate the entire 5.3m population! They range from simple bleak, to stunning luxury, some look on lakes, others forests, gardens, most apartment blocks have one you can reserve a time for yourself friends or family. My town apartment has its own sauna, opinions vary about temperature I like it cool 75c others go near 100C:eek: It's healthy, great for aches and pains and very relaxing afterwards .

Good luck to all who enter and to John for making such efforts.

Thanks, Will

Although I am an American citizen, born and raised, this August will be my 20th anniversary as an ex-pat living in the Netherlands. Dutch wife, Dutch mortgage, Dutch job, and a half-Dutch son (he has dual citizenship), so I think I might be stuck. No complaints, though, as I love it here. That American-themed slip scratches an itch for me!

A really awesome GAW, John. Thank you for this gesture. I have had my eyes on your craftsmanship for a while and I am really glad to have a chance at one.

Not a great photo, but here is the 2021 Forum Knife posing with a staple of the Netherlands: cheese! "Beemster" is a region where they have a lot of dairy cows and they make some very fine cheeses. This one is a very creamy, lightly aged variety. "De smaak van de Beemster" (The taste of the Beesmster).

This is a Charlie Bell hafted with European Red Deer stag on a lamp post in our local park. The Dutch take a lot of pride in designing and maintaining their public spaces. My KOTY for 2021.

This is my MKM Malga, slicing up the Frisian delicacy "suikerbrood" (sugar bread) on the banks of the Tjeukemeer, the largest lake in Friesland.

And, lastly, a Canal Street boy's knife with one of my favorite beers, Tripel Karmeliet. OK, it's actually Belgian, but it's pretty close and who doesn't like beer???

Firstly, Happy New Year to you all.
Wow JohnDF JohnDF , two fantastic prizes there. It has been great to watch these giveaways throughout the year and the enthusiasm they generate. A nice way to celebrate the Porch and its members.
Very generous of you John , but that is not much of a surprise to me . Beautiful Slip and Knife that anyone should be Proud to have . I would like to enter for our Friend in Scotland Magizm7 Magizm7 .

Harry
Harry, thank you Sir, a true gent. I would be very proud indeed to own such a magnificent knife as this. I think seeing one of Eric's knives in Scotland would be akin to spotting the Loch Ness monster😁
That slip aint half bad either:thumbsup:

Just to give you all a wee taste of Bonnie Scotland, here are some pics from a visit to a local distillery yesterday. It was my birthday and my son had gifted me a tour of the distillery. As it was still an official holiday there was no actual production taking place but we did finish the tour off with a few samples. I would highly recommend the Glengoyne 18 and 21 year old expressions - glorious!

Ok, I have stopped myself from entering many giveaway's because I am extremely fortunate enough to have amazing Knife friends, and I am fortunate enough to have been gifted some stunning Knives over the years, so I cant hold my hand out for more ......... BUT.....

John could I enter please, I am in New Zealand, and we are lucky to be living here- its just so so far away from any knife life and my Knife friends.

Its exactly one year ago today where our Sweet Izzy left us, January the 5th 2021, she was my lovely wee girl so I thought I would post a picture of here with a little of NZ behind Izzy and myself. Its still very hard to not have her around, so I hope you enjoy seeing her face- she was always so happy outside going on a Bush walk with her Dad.

John if I am lucky enough to win, can I please suggest Meako to be the Recipient of the Prize, He is just a cool kinda Cat, he went through a pretty darned hard time some time ago where I am sure he lost a lot of his great Hobby Cutlery as well as most probably a ton of Happiness, so to see him receive this would really make me smile.

In Meako's Post above its good to see him all dressed up- That's Suit and Tie stuff for an Aussie folks!

Even though he is Australian- we can forgive him for that :)

Many Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

Another fantastic gesture my friend, i would like to throw my hat into the ring for our Canadian friend Mike, AKA crazy canuck.:)

Appreciate it, friend :)

Now I guess I owe some pictures. I may be a bit biased, but think I live in one of the more beautiful places in the world. My wife and I love hiking, and we've got some pretty awesome scenery within an hour or two drive from home. I only believe in 3 seasons (Spring through Fall) and prefer to hibernate in the winter, but my wife Christina enjoys the dreaded white stuff.

Born, raised, and still live in Calgary, Alberta. Home of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede. For 10 days every Summer we host the world for a parade, midway, concerts, and one of if not the world's richest tournament style rodeo (figured John would love that part!). We even got a shoutout on Yellowstone this season for being so nice ;)
