john greco and kirby lambert

Some of you know my daughter Kimberly, a hit and run victim with traumatic head injury. John Greco has been very good to her. She goes to gun shows in Brimingham and always ends up sitting behind his table and "helping him sell knives" when he exhibits there. He gave her one of his Scagel-type knives at Blade '07. I have bought three knives from him, including one that he halved the cost on when I told him it was a gift for a young Marine.

Good knives, good folks.

Thanks for that post, Mike. It will make the knives I bought just a little more special!

MikeH is right - John Greco is a first class fellow. He's a short fellow, who works, reportedly, in a dirt-floored shop now, having worked for Jimmy Liles and having been a topic in 'Blade' magazine. It's always good to see Kimberly there, MikeH, at his table at the Birmingham AGCA shows, as it was you and the whole crew yesterday at breakfast.

Whether you pay full price for one, or buy them as two-fers, they are bargains. Like many custom makers today, you do often need to hone the edge to make shavers out of them. As delivered, you can kill & dissect some appliance boxes quickly with his 'fighters'. They are well made - and he loves 8670 - which seems to hold an edge like A2, but doesn't develop patina/rust as quickly.

Happy New Year!

" NO Phone Greco " a decade or so past as he was once called .

I always used to get a laugh out of the ads he placed in the back of the knife magazines: "No sales to Kentucky residents".

I guess he didn't want to fool with collecting sales tax?

I met John Greco at Blade a couple of years ago and bought one of his Companion fixed blades. He was very pleasant to talk with, low key and unassuming. Some guys from his town came along to assist at his table. It was quite evident that they all hold him in high regard.

I have great respect for both his work and his business practices.
