Just a fantastic piece. And while I know Coop will do his usual magic, I have to say I think that your pics are pretty good John - crisp and clear with even lighting goes a long way.
I really love those domed, faceted pins--wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm delighted with the result.
John, again, thank you for bringing your "A Game" on this project (come to think of it, I haven't seen a "B" piece from you yet). The beautiful damascus, the care you've taken with my design points, and the beautiful work with the sheep horn--It's more than I could have hoped for. Now I can't wait to have it in hand with a new Paul Long creation. Just glad I won't have to wait too long after seeing Coop's eye candy before I get it--might bust a gut.
G'day John and Will, beautiful knife guys. The Turkish is ace John and really balances nice against the sheep horn. Great Wip to read during breaks from the shed, somehow it's always more fun to watch someone else work than do it yourself. Like being there except you don't have to smell the sheep horn!
Cheers Shawn
Way too many of you guys to thank each one personally for the congratulations and support, but almost as much fun as seeing this knife built and anticipating it myself is being able to share it with you all. John's WIP has magnified and expanded that excitement many fold for me, and I hope for everyone who has posted here.
Here's a link to the original thread detailing the design points that went into this knife:
this knife is a pleasure for the eyes
damasscus is the sublime, really beautiful
e style and this knife is really elegant, perfect for use
all my respect
Sam
I never was much of a fan of sheep horn before this.
Beautiful knife. Everything about it looks great.
Paul did a great job matching the sheath to the knife.
Paul sent me these snapshots just to show me the style and basic colors and that the knife and sheath are ready to go out to Coop tomorrow--obviously there was no need for spending a lot of time on lighting. But I played with the color balance a little in Photoshop, matching the shade of the browns in the sheep horn with your photo, and the resulting saturation in the sheath colors really pops. Cannot wait to see what Coop shows us--really pumped about this package from stem to stern.
I told John that Coop's photo of his damascus puts me in mind of stars and diamonds having a party. Enjoy:
Huge THANK YOU's to John, Coop and Paul.
Just an FYI on the images--Coop used a little oil on the sheephorn to bring out the detail--actual finish is a somewhat softer matte as John indicates earlier in this thread, to preserve the "traction" quality of the horn.
