Understand that the basic pattern ain't my cup o tea, and never will be....

Sam killed it, did the best rendition that I have ever seen!

Great job Sam, and great job Joe for owning and presenting it !!!!

Your katana kake is extreme, Joe! I have 14 pieces on display, and you make me look like a baby, lol!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks buddy

When I Knew Sam was doing a MUSSO Bowie I knew he would kill it and I really wanted it

Many of us at Blade when we first got to see it in public knew it was something special and many commented on it being a strong contender for this honor ........

Happy New Year STeven

I do have too many swords :)

Sam has strengthened the Musso's two weak points......the tang and tip...and turned
the design into a very attractive and formidable piece.

Hat's off...!

Thanks Joe........Happy new year to you and your family as well.

That piece is a study, isn't it.....

It really is Russ

To many big knives feel like a boat oar or a paper weight

Balance all wrong etc

This knife despite its size is ridiculously fast and changes direction very well

The components would seem to lead to an awkward piece ......sparring bar .....large guard etc... But due to many factors like radical distal taper and the shape of the handle it flows in the hand and indexes extremely well

Someone commented on the handle shape back a few pages and this is one of this knifes best features. It is a departure from the broom stick styled handle of the classic MUSSO Bowie

The handle allows the grip to act as a fulcrum so to speak with the way it is shaped. The flared butt adds in retention the scalloping adds in the way it pivots in the hand and everything just indexes well

Truly the best MUSSO Rendition that I have ever seen

Sam really has the talent to make big blades come alive in the hand

Congratulations to Sam for making this outstanding version and to Joe for owning it.

The field of competitors was strong this year, making for tough choices for the BF members. This thread gets better every year. Thanks to the makers for bringing their best and thanks to Roger for putting this on.

Chris

Joe...Thanks for posting that.....some interesting thoughts in that design...and
other improvements in Sam's version.

Is the handle in the original design bored off center to better align the blade with
the forearm's axis.......similar to the first Gerber/Marr fighting knife with the 5 degree offset..?

Russ I would imagine so and it truly would be a right hand design

Billy Bagwell years ago always told be knives were left and right handed :)

Another great image

Bill is a wealth of information that is for sure

The truth is someone put thought into that original MUSSO Bowie and Sam finished it off :)

Congratulations to Sam for such fine work and to Joe for having the good judgement and foresight to acquire that beast. Also, Joe, that's a beautiful young lady you've got there displaying it. I bet she's going to be able take care of herself well in the future.

Agreed...
I wonder if we'll start seeing more MUSSO influence now..? ;-)

BTW.....Who took that last photo...?

Some images of Pauls Leather with the Stud made of Sams steel by my Gunsmith Lester Knipe

Actually, I like the look...

Thanks Russ ..... At least I know I won't rub off the etch if I would tote it :)

As for the comment about maybe seeing more MUSSO renditions ...... I hope so

One of the best I saw was from Rick Marchand and it went to Dudley

It was very well done but the handle was not big enough for my liking but none the less a real stunner

Dudley please post up a pic :)

thank you all
thank you friends for your support
it is a great privilege and a great honor for me .... I will try to be at the height
I have alot of luck
thank you again to all
Sam

Love the additional looks at the knife and I don't think I had seen Paul's sheath - fantastic! All eclipsed, however, but the pic of your daughter displaying the knife.

Congrats again Sam!
