Thanks Roger

This IMHO is a well deserved win for Sam

He has come close so before ..... This year there was no denying him :)

So many great pieces of work here I know Sam is proud ........ I know I am :)

Just to demonstrate how DEEP the field was this year, does anyone want to see what the NEXT group of knives after the finalists would look like? This would be a group of 6 with ties.

Pretty EPIC, methinks.

And interestingly, another group dominated by Damascus, but with a strong representation of wood handles throughout.

Congratulations Sam! as well as the other finalists! It was a great showing. I look forward to 2016. Thank you Roger for this fun competition. It's great to see John White's name associated with such an effort.

and...professional photographs...

Sam's musso bowie is a MOST worthy winner of this contest. Well done, dude!

We should run the contest for that fine field of knives :)

Truly some breathtaking work

I'm very happy to see the knives coming close to the "5 best" cut off, Roger. It would be nice to see the "closes" every year.

There are, + or -, 114 knives shown this year... 11 inside of 10%. That is rarefied atmosphere in a rarefied atmosphere.

Thanks for caring so much about this, Roger.

Oh, and I'd a done the vote figuring just exactly the way you did it, too... =]

Cheers Mike - I'm happy to do that going forward. It pretty much NEVER fails that every year there are a couple knives just a vote or two away from making it in and I always cheer silently for the votes to fall their way. Every vote counts! This year in particular I thought the next bunch were collectively very compelling.

Very deep pool this year!! Congrats on the deserved win Sam!

Showing a lot of class to give a shoutout to Sam on his win, Ryan....but that doesn't surprise, as you are class all the way, my friend!

Happy New Year to you and your family.....see you in Las Vegas?

So proud to be in the next group. "I will be back" next year.

Having two awesome knives that are liked nearly equally well (and a third that did just fine) is a good problem to have. But the vote - splitting "Hanson effect" that Peter referenced earlier was definitely at play here.

I have no doubt you will wow us again for 2016 Bruce!

Bruce you are a gentleman competitor and a master craftsman

You do the game a great service and no doubt are always a threat with your unbelievable work

Joe I must have missed something in past years they would say the winner is and close the poles so it is clear Sam won this year, congrats Sam on a very fine bowie and congrats to you joe on being the lucky owner. I was very happy to have a knife in the finial 4 and as always really enjoy this thread thank you Roger and everyone that helped out.

Great thread!

Congrats Sam, Joe & Paul, an exceptional Bowie and sheath in every respect!

So many outstanding knives shown, I felt honored and flattered to have been nominated, thanks Roger! And even collected a few votes!

Congratulations Sam. Your bowie is a champion and deserves the honor of "Best Bowie" I read it on here that Jim Bowie himself would have grabbed yours first at the Alamo. I totally agree.

Roger, this isn't a response to you. It's a thought your line caused.

Me, I'd just as soon see a lot of knives from a lot of makers. I see this as an exhibition as opposed to a competition. I really enjoyed seeing three Bruce Bump knives and I'd have enjoyed seeing more... more... =] And that would be true for me with all of the makers. It's a thing that happened in the 2015 Hunter thread... lots of makers put up lots of knives... put up knives they were proud to have made in a great venue for that. That really is a wonderful thing.

Hey Mike - that's what the nomination thread is for - no limits on the number of knives - try to get as many shown as possible so that we effectively have a "Bowie year in review." Definitely the main focus there is the exhibition of makers work, and certainly many makers posted not only their own bowies, but those of fellow makers. The competition only really starts when selecting 5 finalists from that full field, then one overall winner from the finalists - a process which many seem to enjoy. Best of both worlds, IMO.

Having many knives nominated - and then having more than one get numerous votes is definitely a good problem to have for a maker, IMO. I wasn't suggesting it was a negative or that makers should limit their nominations to one knife so as to avoid vote-splitting.
