John White MS Memorial BEST BOWIE 2015 - FINALISTS SELECTED!

There are a few more glamorous and elaborate choices that I reserve the right to add later, but these are four outstanding Bowies by relatively new makers that deserve serious consideration, imho.

Post 1 #6--Steve Nuckels
Exceptional Moran Tribute

Post 41 #1--Russ Andrews
I saw this one first hand at ICCE and it's even more impressive up close.

Post 41 #3--Bruce Bingenheimer
Beautiful example of Damascus & fossil ivory.

Post 42 #7--Dave Lisch
Shows off Dave's exceptional ability at making Damascus topped off with ivory.

Post 47 #3--John Doyle
Exceptionally clean classic lines.

Post 66 #1--Ben Seward
Some very nice Damascus and outstanding handle work.

Post 97 #1--Sam Lurquin
Lurquin knocks out another beauty!

The choices were exceptionally difficult and my hat's off to all involved.

Peter - and all - please don't add photos to your votes. Someone will end up voting for a knife in that post - I guarantee it - rather than the post where it was nominated.

Bowies were never my cup of tea and I've often expressed my feelings about Damascus, but we all change over time. Here are some pieces I very much admire:

Post 1 - #1 - Fisk - This is my favorite of all, not even considering the WTC aspect. It is PERFECT in all respects, IMHO.

Post 1 - #4 - Royer - A true "black beauty"

Post 28 - #4 - Lurquin - Beautiful Bowie, but with a personality

Post 30 - #1 - Bruce Bump - Fine, fine piece, loving the checkering and engraving

Post 41 - #2 - This Steve Johnson is an eyeful, though it ain't a Bowie, IMHO, but it's gotta be on my list

Post 41 - #4 - Roger Bergh - Great work. And at that price, just as mentioned in the post, a bargain

Post 66 - #2 - Ben Seward - Solstice II - Quite the piece, gotta love the carbon fiber handle

Hi!

Thanks again Roger! Great thread as always!

A shame we have to limit ourselves to seven picks with so many great knives to see. I would love to handle all of them. Anyhow, my personal preferences have led me back to these seven the most:

Post No.1 - Knife 2 - Sam Lurquin Musso Bowie - what a Bowie, pure muscle

Post No. 2 - Knife 3 - Ben Seward - innovative and captivating to my eyes

Post No. 4 - Knife 2 - CAS Poker Bowie - impressive tour-de-force, of the many great CAS bowies of the year, the most unique one to me

Post No. 12 - Knife 3 - John M. Cohea Bone Collector Bowie - I am partial to this one, but this is right down my alley in every aspect

Post No. 47 - Knife 1 - Don Hanson III - fresh, great looking

Post No. 57 - Knife 2 - Tad Lynch - dark, sinister, powerful with great flow

Post No. 94 - Knife 1 - Bruce Bump Wild Bill Bowie - glad this one made it just in time, so many cool things going on here

All the best,
Alex

Congrats to everyone's wonderful knives that are gracing these pages but ........There can be only one :)

For me and not just because I own it it's the .....................LURQUIN MUSSO BoWiE post 1 knife 2

Simply put ......it's the finest Rendition of the Bowie that Jim Bowie might of carried that I have ever seen

It's Big & Mean and screams Bowie :)

if I had to stand on that sandbar in Nachez or behind that wall at the Alamo the choice would be.......

How's that for a shameless bias opinion :)

Happy New Year and thanks to all ......especially Roger

Spectacular work all around. So hard to pick as usual. Congratulations to all entries. This is the way it worked out for me:

Post 1 #2 - Sam Lurquin. It just ticks every box for me. Beautiful but imposing. Terrific details but elegant in its simplicity. Great proportions, flow, fit and finish.

Post 2 #3 - Ben Seward. Great sweep and attitude. Aggressive and classy. Beautiful innovation, materials and workmanship.

Post 28 #1 - Sam Lurquin. I don't love everything Sam does. But when he gets it right, he REALLY gets it right. And he gets it right pretty often. This is just a beautiful knife.

Post 67 #2 - Tad Lynch. There are fancier knives in the running but to me, this is the ultimate distillation of the Bowie knife. Drop dead perfect and gorgeous proportions and line. Built like a tank.

Post 67 #1 - Ben Breda. Ben makes some very beautiful knives. He has a great eye for design and obviously the skill to make it happen.

Post 85 # 1 - Lin Rhea. Great pieces from Lin this year. This one is so classy.

Post 43 #7 - Claude Bouchonville. Such unique style. Beautiful sculptural lines and gorgeous color. Not a straight line in sight. Sexy!
