John_0917 be careful.

Still missing some facts, but according to what's been provided so far...The seller gave what he claims he thought was an accurate description of a used knife. The buyer feels like his description was inaccurate. If I were to sell a knife to someone and the buyer found a flaw that I overlooked or "misrepresented", I would expect a reasonable buyer to give me a chance to resolve the situation, whether it be a full refund and reimburse them for return shipping, adjust the price accordingly, or swap out for something else.

In this instance, if the buyer was displeased, he should've directly asked the seller for some resolution. Maybe he felt like the seller should've offered to do something without him having to ask. But a burr on the edge of a used knife is not a big deal to some people and obviously is to others. Clear communication probably would've resulted in a better outcome here. All I can do is speculate though.

Making up facts about the condition of a knife that you can't verify will never be OK....

Exactly my thoughts. You shouldn't use very specific terminology when describing the knife if isn't 100% correct.

Seems odd to me that the OP has not come come back to this thread or answered any questions since starting the thread. Seller has not posted period. Maybe there is a reason, maybe they worked something out, who knows?
Until then, there is not really anything that can be concluded here.

If they are both satisfied with their negative marks, that works for everyone as a warning. Like a scarlet S, for....

FLF, thanks for even looking. I've been swamped at work and had not done too much after the initial postings here were made.

Well I just discovered this thread today so here my now belated response:

1) I did describe the knife accurately, it was clearly stated to be a user and was priced accordingly.

2) It was my error in not including the lanyard and I acknowledged that to the buyer right away.

3) I was not the original owner (nor did I claim to be) and did not sharpen the knife myself.

4) I find the buyers claims that the very point of the blade to have been sharpened when it arrived to be dubious at best.

5) I offered the buyer a refund in exchange for returning the knife.

6) I left negative feedback for the buyer largely as I believe he was trying to con me out of a free knife.

7) Literally dozens of other people have done deals of all kinds with me, they have universally left positive feedback except for this character...I think that speaks for itself.

Practicing parting petulance, he shoots me a negative feedback for what? 1. Paying immediately; 2. Expecting the knife to be as represented; and 3. Saying something to him when it was not.

I've been here for a good while, enjoyed a 100% feedback here, on eBay and other places but never thought I'd get dinged ... as a buyer! Oh well.

You and I both know I offered to refund your money multiple times. We also know you were being impossible about things and had the real goal of getting yourself a free knife.

Want to talk about being petulant? Giving up on your scam attempt and settling for just trashing someone's good reputation instead.

...
5) I offered the buyer a refund in exchange for returning the knife.
.................

This is the only point that really matters here. If you offered a full refund, the unhappy buyer should have packed it up and shipped it back.

My thought exactly. So is negative feedback acceptable towards a seller that offered to resolve the problem?

Mistake, John_0917 left negative ITrader feedback even though no one was out of money or product.
Mistake, Salty posted this complaint in GBU but did not notify John_0917.

Communication. GBU was the place for both of you to post your displeasure, but you have to tell the other guy you posted here or he won't know to respond.

Truth is that if he ships it back even now a month later (roughly), as long as it's in approximately the same condition (within reason, things we would all accept on here as reasonable) I'll still give him a refund.

I've had satisfaction issues in the past as a buyer and had an issue with a damaged product (in shipping) I sold, every time those matters were resolved to my and the other persons satisfaction.

Unfortunately some people aren't reasonable and act like children, more interested in throwing a fit than fixing anything.

John, look at SALTY's record. He's been here longer than I have. Except for your transaction, he has a perfect record. Neither of you posted an exchange of messages to support your cases.

This doesn't give us much to work with.

It's makng me wonder if Spark removed the wrong feedback. What's also troubling is that Salty posted a message from the seller that made it look like he and his complaint had been blown off, but conveniently omitted the offer of a refund. Hmmmm.................

Another thing.......I just looked at the pic in the sale thread. This is a chisel grind and the plain edge, the very tip, doesn't look messed up at all. The blade looks as described......to me.
Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but a loupe? To check ~ 1/2" of edge?? On a $60 knife??? Described as lightly used????
Ugh

Well imagine that!

Oh by the way, I actually came down a little on the price from the ad, I think it was either $55 or $57 [emoji849]

That reminds me, have to look into buying a loupe...seems that's standard equipment nowadays ...

That's it John!!! I want that knife I'm buying from you under an electron microscope........and can you do better on the price??? I know you're asking $40........will you take $9??
Ugh

Next time I post a sale on the exchange the terms and disclosures are going to be rather ... extensive

I'm actually about to sell another knife that is a VERY obvious user. This should be fun [emoji17]
