JohnDF's Sci Fi GAW Part II

I saw some of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Books in your pile the original Trilogy got me hooked on sci-fi when I was about 12. I still believe those are the best 3 sci-fi books ever written. I never read any of the ones he wrote in the 80's. By the way Hari Seldon's real name is Gary but now goes by 5K Qs 5K Qs :D.
...
:D:thumbsup: Randy, I'm honored that you'd associate me with the amazing Hari Seldon!
I think the Foundation Trilogy was my introduction (when I was 18) to science fiction, too, and I also had a very high opinion of those novels. When I reread them a few years ago, they didn't seem as good as I remembered, but I'd still recommend them to anyone. The Mule was an awesome character!:thumbsup::cool: I've read a lot of other Asimov novels, some related to the Foundation, and some not, and I enjoyed most of them. Another of my favorite, and recurring, characters is R Daneel Olivaw, who appears here on The Porch regularly as Dean RDaneel RDaneel . ;)

Unrelated to Asimov, another science fiction favorite of mine is Spaceman Spiff!:cool::thumbsup::D Here's a pic showing some polycarbonate, anti-fog goggles I acquired last week to wear when I pretend I'm in a Spaceman Spiff adventure! (I use them for basketball, too.)

Been looking at this GAW. Very unique and interesting, John!
It's neat seeing the old stuff from back in the day.

The Templar seems so fitting for that picture. Well done!!!

How about a traditional knife with vintage serials? Science fiction and super hero bases covered! Forgot to say "I'm in"!

Really nice setup for that picture. Great use of your knife prop. Plus, you can't beat Batman and Superman, and let us not forget my favorite... Spiderman.

I knew someone would out me (Gary!). He is my favorite Asimov character followed by R. Giskard Reventlov and Elijah Bailey. R. Daneel is the primary character (implicitly) in both the Robot novels and the Foundation series.:thumbsup: Wikipedia says he is a "fictional character." Yeah, right...

Thanks for your Asimov insights, Dean.:thumbsup::thumbsup: I think I'll try to read Asimov's Robot, Empire, and Foundation books this summer in "fictional chronological order", rather than in order of publication.

Still not an entry, but can't resist continued participation.
In a previous post, I mentioned what my wife's favorite sci fi film is, and I'll do the same here for myself. I think the DVD on the right is probably my favorite, even if it's kind of a SF parody. It has a million memorable quotes (my current favorite: either "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once" or "I've been ionized, but I'm OK now"). John Lithgow is magnificent as an alien-possessed villain. Peter Weller as Buckaroo Banzai, 20th century Renaissance man, puts his efforts in Robocop to shame. :D:thumbsup::thumbsup::D

(I like Jurassic Park very much, but it's only in the pic because Jeff Goldblum appears in both movies, playing essentially similar roles as someone not as cool as he thinks he is. ("Clever girl!" is one of my all-time favorite movie quotes.:cool::cool::thumbsup:.))

I thought this scene was in Buckaroo Banzai for years! But it's from Rustler's Rhapsody. Not sure if it's sci-fi or not.

Nope, singing cowboy spoof. Tom Berenger as Rex O'Herlihy, the good guy; Andy Griffith as the evil cattle baron who joined forces with an Italian railroad mogul (the Italian gunmen had those cool overcoats). Still no match for Berenger until they brought in a rival good guy (Patrick Wayne), who eroded Berenger's confidence. Marilu Henner gave Rex more confidence.
