Joined Weight Watchers

I have to chip in with my recent experience.

About a year and a half ago I weighed about 300lb. Today I weigh 230. A little more to go, but most of the way to ideal weight (whatever that is)

I absolutely cannot do portion control, but I found that by eating healthy yet filling foods I can still get full with less calories. Lots of rice dishes, poultry instead of beef or pork whenever possible, and no greasy foods. Although its tough to exercise, I go 1-2 days a week, just for an hour. Getting myheart rate up every once in a while burns tons of cals, but also makes me feel way better.

All this to say that the thing that works for me is not a major change. Anything too radical is tough to stick to. Set reasonable goals and enjoy your successes. Don't look at a healthy meal as a poor substitute to a burger, focus on the ways it is better.

Much luck.

First week done.

Lost 7 pounds. Down to 321. She warned me I wouldn't lose that much again.

Need to increase the exercise and decrease the beer.

Trying not to think about the fact I have to lose 125 pounds!

It's good that you have a supportive wife to do this with also.
Exercise moderate, especially at first.
walk 5 days a week at a decent clip for 30 min. for the first couple weeks.
Don't starve yourself or hurt yourself exercising.
Slow and steady weight loss will have a better chance of more permanent change.

I've been there.
It possible to do this and many have done it, so YOU CAN ALSO !!!!!
Stick with it a few weeks and although you'll still crave junk, you'll find yourself feeling so much better that it will be easier to deal with cravings for junk.

Good first week! You've already done the hardest thing, at least for me. Starting an exercise and diet plan is tough to do.

I lost ~50 lbs last summer, and have kept most of it off through the winter. When warm weather gets here, I'll be out circling the track again most days, trying to get rid of some more of my excess weight.

Good luck!

Keep up the good work, Weight Watchers helped me loose more than 100lbs over a 1 year period. Slow and steady pays off.

Having a bad time this week, though. I've stuck to the diet, haven't gone over on points and wrote everything down. And I've gained two pounds. Just trying to stick it out this week.

Hey, that's ok. Don't despair. The body does cyclical things. Probably a bit of the "I'm starving, conserve" instinct kicking in. Keep at it, you're doing well.

I'm on your side my friend.I am 6"4" and weigh 320. I've been eating better the last three months also and have lost 20 lbs.I've got a long way to go too. The thing that helps me the most is to remember it took me a long time to put this weight on and it's going to take a long time to get it off.

If you over eat one day, just get right back on track the next. It's not one day that matters but what you do over the long term.

Once you get the weight off, the real challenge is keeping that weight off. I applaud your efforts.

One bit of advice, and this comes from my having a degree in exercise science, it is imperative you not lose more than 1% body weight a week. Faster than that and you start losing more muscle mass than fat mass.

For most people that ends up being about 1.1 to 2.2 pounds a week, but with heavier people, it can be more, of course.

Just remember that as you lose weight, 1% of your body weight will change. Right now you're good on losing about 3.3 pounds a week. If you get to 250 (just an arbitrary number), that number goes down to 2.5 pounds a week.

More miscellaneous information should you find it helpful: losing 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat. It doesn't matter where those calories come from. Could be protein, carb, or lipid (fats, mostly triglycerides). Either way, 3500 calories from either category or a mixture of those categories is one pound of fat.

Good luck.

Just wanted to post a word of encouragement.

WW, the Gym, etc are all tools. Use them correctly and they will work. Some days you will not feel like going to the Gym, go anyway. Once you are there (half the battle) you will find something to do and thus every step will help you achieve your goal.

Good job so far and every day is one step closer.

Thanks for the support. I think that the WW plan purposely gives me so much food that I will start to only lose a couple of pounds per week.

The biggest benefit to this is that I have been eating well for the past couple of weeks. I've cut way down on the high fat foods like sausage, etc. that I really love and have avoided my "traps" like eating a whole loaf of french bread with butter and hot sauce (MMMMM). I can still have that, but maybe 2 or 3 slices, instead of the whole baguette.

A concrete benefit is that I haven't had acid reflux at night for a week or so.

I'm going to post every week, just so you guys can keep me honest.

Lost 1.4 pounds this week. Didn't cheat, so I'm a little confused I didn't lose more.

total lost 8.4

current weight 320.

While fruit offer a lot of health benefits you simply must restrict your intake because of the sugar content.

I'd encourage you to eliminate all processed meats forever. Sugar is in all of them. Sugar and simple carbs are your enemy.

Eliminating bread can be tough but very beneficial. If approved by WW you might try a slice of REAL whole grain bread-NO FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP (sugar). But frankly most grains are a problem.

The Chinese had it right: The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. You are now on your way. Best wishes.

That is good news.
Take it slow, don't do anything drastic.
Slow and steady wins this race.

Look at the success so far. No acid reflux for a week !

Remember that great line from all KNIFE KNUTS favorite movie " The Edge" ?

"What one man can do, another can do !"

1.4 per week is over 70 lbs per year! It took me more than a year to gain my extra weight so I won't feel too bad if it takes over a year to lose. I think you should be comfortable with that achievement.;)

Good job,

See? You're doing well. Stick with it and you will achieve your goal.

Good on you, brother. Don't drink beer. Drink ice cold water instead. Your doing yourself good, man. Keep it up !

I am with you brother. No WW for me, but recently re-joined Gold's after noticing that my post-retirement weight had rocketed to 254!! On a 5'9" frame! - Although suddenly stopping rucking everywhere can have that effect, I hear:) Down to 240 after about a month and looking to hit 195 again. Congratulations on starting and good luck on staying with it.

Week Three
lost: 2 pounds.
total: 10.4
weight: 318.

My goal this week is more veggies, less bread. Which is hard because I'm taking a cooking class and we've been baking (and bringing home) all kinds of bread the last couple of weeks.
