Well, its been a slow and frustrating slog, but I've finally hit the 20 pound mark in my diet.

I too have lost 20 on WW. It is slow, thats true, but it seems to me that its designed that way. Your daily intake is fixed at a level just below what your body requires for stasis. This means the weight loss is slow, but the deprivation is minimal making you more likely to stick with it.

I have gone off of WW for a day or two, and gained a pound or two, but it falls right back off quickly when I get my act together. Just keeping it real.

Mrs. Powernoodle has lost 14, and is about 3 from her goal weight of 125. She is better at WW than me, because she goes to meetings where you get peer pressure and weekly weigh-ins, and I'm basically doing WW on my own by stealing her materials.

A thing or two that helps me: salad with Newman's Own light balsamic vinaigrette is only 1 point; Progresso light soups are very good and 4-6 points per can. Half a cup of low fat cottage cheese is 2 points, which to you non WW people probably sounds nasty, but when you are starving its da bomb. And a giant bag of carrots in the fridge, which I gnaw on like Bugs Bunny when I am jonesing. Keep at it Shann. Sounds like you are kickin' it.

Powernoodle: You too. Keeping at it is the biggest deal. Even if I "only" lost a pound a week, that's 50 by the end of the year. Glad your wife is on it with you. Mine is too and it makes things much more pleasant and we both know what if "on plan" and what isn't.

After quitting smoking I was convinced that was the most difficult thing to do. Wrongo! Controlling weight is twice as hard. Especially AFTER quitting smoking when your taste buds return to their full potential. It's a constant battle. Congrats on taking the first step. I'm avoiding fructose corn syrup and taking other measures but basically I'll off the "beaten" path right now. Gotta get back into the weight loss game. Soon. Right after the holiday weekend bar-b-que! Yeah that's the ticket....

I think you should all be proud of your accomplishments. You're doing well and will succeed!

Haven't posted in a while. I've been a little up and down, but I'm sticking with in generally speaking. At the very least I'm eating a heck of a lot more healthy.

Weight: 296.8
Total loss: 31.6

My wife has also lost 20 pounds, so we are down 50 pounds total together since the beginning of the year.

Been on a bad streak lately. Haven't lost any weight lately, but I am down a total of 35.8 pounds and I've started to walk\jog 3 times a week.

Ive been through a similar program myself, and having someone there by your side to hold your hand through the ordeal is a big help.
I say ordeal, some people say its easy, but I'm not gonna bs about it. I went to the gym 5x a week, and on each of those days I would watch a whole movie on my mp3 played as I worked out on the Elliptical Machine for 2 hours straight.
I watched the whole Band of Brothers HBO show in a week. Having distractions while you exercise helps distract you and cut down the boredom.
I'm not completely sure of the WW method, since I went through a weight loss program through a nutritionist, so my experience may vary.
Every day I would have at least 5 high-protein drinks, and about 60 oz of water.
That much water looks easy, but if you dont think about it all day, then its easy to get too little.
There are some diet pills out there that work to metabolize fat, and they work best with high levels of water consumption.
You can do it. It isn't going to be a cake walk at first, but you need to keep your determination.
You know those thoughts that went through your head when you first decided to do something?
Don't loose those thoughts, keep them alive. You need to know why you are doing this so you dont get tempted to sidetrack yourself.
I had a shortfall when I lost the reasoning behind my loosing weight. I relapsed and it was a sad day in my wight loss program.
Getting back on the horse the first few times can be hard, and your self doubts can be pretty convincing.
Keep with it, dont look back, and after a couple months, the weight loss program becomes commonplace, and it does get easier to live with.

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but congrads on the 30+lbs.

I know some people from work that have been trying to do a diet regiment, but are stupid about it. Eating smaller portions, but then having a glass full of coffee with sugar and cream >.> Just ridiculous.

Not sure if my suggestions will help, because i've never been in your shoes, but i know peanut butter is great for protein and helps curb the appetite. It may be boring, but eat lots of vegetables. Do play around with any oils, taste alternatives, etc. Whole natural foods are best. Fresh produce and not processed stuff. You'll save money that way too. No pre-packaged food.

I hate when people say exercise should be at least 30min of walking a day. I've seen that a lot, but i personally think that's a poor minimum. You should have an exercise -regiment- for at least twice a day. A routine in the morning when you wake up, and a routine before you go to bed. And if there's free time in the middle of the day then add a third routine. That should be a minimum. It would be great if you could put 2-3hrs aside out of your day and get some really good exercise in. I personally try to drink at least 125oz of water a day. I am in good shape though. But there was a time when i first started bartending and i was just drinking sleeping and going to work. After people started noticing a physical change, i got on a routine and kicked 10lbs in 3 weeks.

I absolutely think you can lose your weight and achieve your goal, you just have to stay -consistent-. A great factor is that your wife is doing it as well. It's great that you can help each other out and have each others support. Just remember to always be mindful of what you're doing, what you're eating, and why you're doing it. Good luck to the rest of your diet, you should post a before and after -when- you finally reach your goal. It would be a great motivation to other members who may be trying to lose weight. My expectation and hope is to come back to this thread at the end of the year and see you down to 230 :) good luck to you and your wife!

Doesn't sound like a bad streak to me. Keep up the positive attitude and good work!
