Two pounds is great!

I have found that my willpower is not always good so for the time being I often need to remove myself from the presence of temptations like a banquet, buffet, cooking class, etc. until I can train myself to deal with them effectively.

Best of success!

I have lost weight by eating last meal at no later than 6pm and usually at 5pm. What really helped was not snacking at night(hard to do),but worth the results. Good luck!!!!!!

Mmmmmmm . . . cheese.

Can't say no cheese. Certainly no American processed cheese food product. No Cheez Whiz or Velveeta either. No deep fried cheezy poofs. No french fries covered in melted cheese. No nachos. No grilled cheese sammich.

Good quality cheese in moderation is okay, but only a couple of times a week.

Your diet doesn't work for prison I guess. ;)

Week Three
lost: 2 pounds.
total: 10.4
weight: 318.

My goal this week is more veggies, less bread. Which is hard because I'm taking a cooking class and we've been baking (and bringing home) all kinds of bread the last couple of weeks.

Good stuff. VEGGIES are the way to go. Water and veggies. Bread KILLS. I have a huge sweet tooth- and I can put away a lot too. Really, I LOVE simple carbs, and bread based things. Eating veggies takes up a lot of stomach room. I'm in pretty great shape, but have my own personal goal that is lower than most people's (and that carries it's own problem- very few people to keep me motivated). Keep it up.

I personally am trying to adhere to the body for life, which is hard, as my meals are already paid for at a cafeteria- which means I do a lot of picking through, dumping simple carbs, and saving extra portions for later meals. Totally worth it though. Keep it up!

Week 4:

Lost: 4.2
Total: 14.6
Weight: 313.8

Starting to get in the rythym of being on a diet. Watching my intake, not feeling deprived. I do get a lot of food though. Next week is tough. I'm on vacation with my family. Plan is to walk a lot, drink lots of water and eat lots of fruits and veggies instead of fun vacation food. Still will be hard because we will eat out a lot.

Diets/dieting can be productive however any successful long term plan to control your weight has to include a regular exercise plan. Keeping weight off can be more difficult than losing it.

Nice work!

One thing that I learned from Weight Watchers was the idea of pre-filling your stomach with low-point, high fiber vegetable soup and salad. It really helped me cut back on the more point-rich main course items.

Best of success,

Way to go! Sounds like it's working out for you so far.

Haven't posted in a while, not doing great, but still plugging away.

18.4 total pounds down. (hurt by gaining a lot of weight over vacation, but got rid of it).

Not bad!

For the last 25-30 days I've been hiking a minimum of 4 miles/750 v.ft. per day, sometimes more. Also lifting weights again. I haven't approached your loss total but I feel stronger.

Best of success!

Well you are definately getting in shape and getting stronger. I have got to start doing something. With spring finally here, at least I can walk my dog a couple of miles here and there.

You Da Man. Try not to yo yo. Not good for ya.

Probably this weight watchers is good for that. It seems to be a diet I can live with. I've lost a ton of weight on other diets in the past, but they were very restrictive and I couldn't do it in the long run.

The program I'm on now, the only things I miss really are cheese and processed meats like sausage, hot dogs, etc. I do eat a little cheese, but they are vey "point" dense so not too often.

I think that the idea is to slowly ramp up the metabolism. The key to weight loss (generally speaking) is to create a caloric deficit where you are burning more than you consume. After some time, you will be able to eat more and maintain a healthy weight. And the more calories you burn with cardiovascular exercise the more you will need.

Well, its been a slow and frustrating slog, but I've finally hit the 20 pound mark in my diet. While the weight hasn't been coming off fast on the WW program, by the same token I haven't really felt deprived and feel like I can do this over the long term. Other diets have worked faster, but burned me out with the restrictions so that I ended up just quitting.

down 20.6 total pounds to 307.8. Goal is 300 by the end of the month.

My wife is down 15 pounds as well. It really helps when both of us are on the same diet.

Nice going! I'm down about 12 but a nasty chest cold temporarily disrupted the exercise schedule.

You're absolutely right that a team approach makes the effort go a lot more smoothly.

Best of success to you both,

Good to read, looks like it's going to stick.

How was the trip?

This is true. Most people that used to clinically overweight or obese regress to similar weight levels within 5 years. I don't recall exactly what reference book I read this in, but it's in one of my books sitting on my desk right now, and my desk is full of books on anatomy, strength training and conditioning, ACSM and NSCA guidelines, and peer reviewed journals.

Congrats on the weight loss and sticking with it! Don't let any extra carbs get you.

So its been a while. Things have been slow but sure. Need to start exercising.

current weight: 301.2
total loss: 27.2

I'm feeling a little better, mainly because the clothes are fitting better! Not feeling deprived, could be losing faster but still averaging almost 2 pounds a week.
