I'm on a kick to get my wind back after spending a long time battling bilateral pneumonia and pericarditis. So, I've been hiking almost every day for a couple of hours with a loaded pack, raind or shine. I've been using the Pygmy Falcon but recently sapped over to our own pack since we are getting close to trying to dial this thing in with a US maker. A buddy of mine has already put over 130 kilometers on his Junglas Pack (loaded at 38 pounds) and has offered some pretty good mods to make it more user friendly, so we will be implementing those as well as anything I find out for the next month or so. I plan to put at least 50 miles or so on this new pack during that time. Got it loaded out at 34 pounds. I also found a use for the Junglas Knife now. It looks really cool all MOLL'd up to the side fo the Junglas Pack. And before anyone asks what all contents I have in this thing, it's pretty much the same as I have previously posted on Bug Out Bags (article also availabe on our web site). As for comparing the Junglas to the Pygmy....well, to me there is no comparison.... the Junglas kicks its ass. I've got enough time with both packs now to know the Junglas is light years ahead of it in comfort and capability in load out. Don't get me wrong. I love Maxped but the Junglas is just better thought out for what we do. And it's rare that we brag on our own gear ;)

the pack does look sweet,

id suggest little velcro (i know can get gummed up in the bush) straps for the
straps on the bag, makes them tidy, and they wont get caught/in your way

I use those plastic things with the small bungee cord that Maxpedition sells to roll up the loose straps, they work well (forgot the name though..)

Jeff, what are some mods you're thinking of doing to the newer manufacture of them?

I've had my eye on the Falcon II...but i think i'll wait to see how the production goes with this...best of luck in finding a US company to produce it!!!

Awesome. Advise though Jeff. I think using both straps to carry it works better. :P

I dont have one of these YET but its on my list. One thing I like about it is the lack of molle all over. Alot of guys I have deployed with over the years love attaching stuff all over so that there pack is about 12 feet thick hanging off there back and nothing on the sides. And cry about it :) I just laugh and think should I say something or live and learn. :)

Keep us updated on the changes you make to the pack.... I've been looking for a new one about that size and had almost dismissed it recently but if you are making improvements and moving the manufacturing stateside then im all ears..

Proposed mods:

Main shoulder strap adjustments need to be more of a quick adjust. Side molle straps need to be wider. It needs a hang strap on the very back of the pack since the drag handle is more towards the center and hard to use as a hang strap. More cross molle straps on shoulder straps with the top 3 straps having male Velcro sewn on top of each molle strap. Adjustable chest strap. Needs to adjust up and down on main straps. Two more rows of cross straps on the front compartment. Side compression straps need an add-on elastic compression strap so the user can use the hard strap or the elastic strap if they're holding down gear (such as rope). Add velcro zipper security so the zippers don't snag and come open. Need cross straps above and below water port.

I met with the Mystery Ranch guys at the Shotshow and they seemed like a standup bunch. I have a Camelbak Linchpin with the Mystery Ranch Harness that I love.

I'm sure you've looked into them but with my limited knowledge of their dealings I think they would be a great US manufacturer.

Sadly this pack needs more MOLLE for the size pack and the load-out capability that it has. This is not going to be a day hiker's pack when finished. It's more designed as a heavy duty pack for rough use.

From the pics, I think that Junglas pack would have some great applications for our agency. Hopefully when we get some funds released those will be up for sale.

You might be talking about the ITW Web dominators. I love them. Here are some pics.

DEA and the Jungla operators have been using this pack for a while in the jungles. They love it. It's definitley a "small" pack that carries big. Easy to maneuver with it also. I love my Becker Patrol Pack but loaded out it's too wide to navigate tight brush.

It seems to me the pack is "wide" and not very "long". How does it carry in the field? I am not a backpack guru and I don't have the junglas pack. I am just wondering if it is heavy to the back?

Does that make any sense to anyone?

Reading Jeff's post above mine I mean "wide" the opposite the way he means"wide"

It just looks wide with the climbing rope. Actually much more narrow than the BPP.
