Herrets. I forget which model, but if you google around I'm sure you'll be able to find examples.
I got that piece for a song, and the grips out of the used bin for another verse. New they run like $100.
They are EXCELLENT. That's my IDPA SSR class rig. Spend a day shooting that baby on an IDPA course, especially with some of the official S&W wheelgunners around as inspiration and you'll never bother with your wondernines again. :D I've yet to get up to S&W for the winter nationals... maybe I'll try to sneak in as a RSO this year.

Oh wait, it just came to me. I think they are Shooting Stars. They were not in the package, of course, but I recognized 'em immediately and looked up the model # online later.

Chronicles of the mall ninja continues on my 870 build. Magpul MOE forend + 5 slot rail. I have a pistol grip, stock, and buffer tube on hand, but the damn stock adapter is backordered. Sucks that the missing piece is the critical clincher.

That fore end is pretty nice. Good place to put a light.

What kind of optic will you install on that rail?

That's the plan, the rail is tentatively where the light's going. Light activation will be near my thumb. Not sure if I'm going mount + handheld or dedicated weapon mounted light.

As for optic, I'm debating between the Eotech XPS and the Aimpoint Micro. I like the reticle options, battery, and general looks of the XPS, but the Micro is 1/3 of the weight and has a smaller footprint.
 
trying to work out some black cherry scales for my 16, (I have a large slab off a downed tree that I need to cut blocks out of) Any tips guys? (I know I need to stabilize it but not quite sure how to do that).

Thanks, I'll have to watch out for a pair of them. I ended up ordering a set of grips from Altamonts that look pretty decent. Wondernines........LOL. They are fun to shoot. Actually the SP01 and the Model 10 should both be fun. I've got a bunch of Starline brass and 158gr swc's that should make for some nice loads to shoot out of the 10.
 
Got a brand spanking new BK2 today. Going to do a strip/convex job and send it out to a soldier at Ft. Gordon. I haven't seen a brand new one in a while and I'm damned impressed with the work coming out of KaBar these days. This baby is slick as a ribbon and sharp as hell.

There are ways to home-stabilize, but most folks send fancy wood bits to a pro.
Our local Woodcraft store had some stabilizing fluids at the store-closing sale.

However you'll have to dry it first, I believe. That can take a year.
Once it's dry, you choose to stabilize or not. If you're doing bolt-on scales... I'm not sure what kind of difference that makes. Bolts are more likely to be over-tightened than pins, which suggests stabilization. On the other hand, since the handles would be removable, that suggests that they can suffer a little seasonal swelling and shrinkage without threatening the epoxy, since there'd be none.

The grain on that probably won't be very spectacular as a knife handle, but if it has sentimental value that matters more. I've worked with cherry a little bit and it has a nice tight grain and works easily with minimal tear-out (the variety I had, anyway).

Good stuff tw. A new blade is a great feeling, and sending it to a soldier, even better.

Yeesh I may be in over my head. Well the tree has been down for at least a year or two (don't know if that factors into the drying or not but it was far from green), and I've always like black cherry as a tree and I was probably only going to use them part time till I can get some Micarta scales. Thanks man, good to get some advice from a pro :) .
