Paraphrased;

"I am the seller and decide whom to sell to. I accepted your offer, then received another offer. I refunded your money and took the other offer. I needed the extra money."

And;

"I can't do anything about it, sorry you are upset, do as you wish."

I don't think the rules include this policy on how to sell... I don't think sellers should do this ever. One you accept an offer and receive payment, other offers are... moot.

So, I'm not bent over this. However I think it stinks and these sellers should be made known so as to help identify people that have bad selling habits... no???

User name being withheld for now as again, I am not bent and want more feedback from others to determine if it's even worth "helping out" other prospective buyers..

Personally, I have a list, and those people are off limits for any transactions... just removing some of the unknowns.

Its bad form to be sure. If you accept a transaction (to say nothing of accepting cash) then you should follow thru.

In any case, I am not sure its worth getting bent out of shape about but still worth noting (as you've done.)

This is unfortunate. Twice now I have had sales where I received an offer, followed by a second that was a good bit higher than the first, yet out of respect to the first buyer, I sold it to them. I know that money is tight for some people, but this is not the best hobby in which to make a buck. Not knowing the details, I could not foresee a situation where a second offer would be substantially higher than a first (unless it was some die-hard collector who just HAD to have it I guess...). I like buying on this forum because of the respect that its member give each other. In my dealings, common courtesy weighs in heavily over profit. I would do the same in your shoes and just avoid any future transactions with that member.

Sounds like "welshing" is becoming more and more popular hereabouts..

Bad news

Well, I too have had offers that were much greater than the price I agreed upon to the buyer... More than a few times in fact.. One knife, received 3 other offers, 2 were over $100 over first taker.. I sold to first I'll take it with confirmation. Another time the offer was, "whatever the first guy is paying PLUS $200." I said, sorry you are too late. You get SECONDS.

Ok, I feel better. I'll list name if I get enough PM requests, cheers everyone.. keep it REAL -_-

I feel that when one accepts the payment it's a deal/contract and you should follow through. (Exceptions may occur)

It definitely shows a certain lack of integrity when the seller changes their mind, and renegs on the deal for a better offer, but if they promptly refund your money, then they are not all bad. Some people are not courteous enough to fully respect their peers, and the best thing to do is just avoid any contact with them in the future.

Wow, I have not heard of this before. While I reserve the right to sell to whom I wish, once a deal is struck, it is a done deal. Many times I have accepted an offer lower than the listing price and have stuck by my word even when a full price request to buy came in later.

For those of us who frequent this site, we begin to build a list of good peeps and ... the rest :)

The "seller" does feel he was in the wrong... Is trying to make it up by offer a deal on another knife.. too little too late.. but at least he is trying. I hope he stands tall the next time around...

Post the name.

Let the community know who acts in this manner, so they can decide whether or not to do business with them.

I don't get it either. Once you accept an offer there is no more knife to sell. The next offer is just to late. Look to another seller. I've never been nor have I ever stiffed a deal. I'd like to know who's doing it as long as the accusations are true.

+1

I know I wouldn't want to buy from somene that would refund after I paid because they got a better offer.
I think this is the first time I've heard of anyone doing this.

Well said, Wazu.

If a seller is going to welsh on agreements to accept higher offers, then they should make it known in the listing they may do this. A member with an established history of doing this should be required to make it known in their listings.

If a buyer at a knife show was handed his money back because the seller received another offer while putting the knife in a package, you would have some Black Friday level aggression coming into play! :mad:

Post the name(s). A serial welcher just got the ban hammer.

I second this, post the guys name. If he really needed the extra money, he should've listed it for that price instead. To renege on the deal is just bad form and posting his name could deter others from having to deal with it, and may also bring out others who have had the same type of dealing with them.
