Just bad policy...

A part of me feels for the guy, as we all know "stuff happens" and sometimes we NEED money... but another part of me is of the mind set, your word is all you got. He seemed genuinely sorry and regretted doing it, but... he did it. And I try and trust people, but never fully can. So regardless of whether or not his stories are truth or not, a deal is a deal.

To be honest... and this is just full disclosure. This knife was being sold, a few days prior. I was trying to get it for a few bucks cheaper.. The deal slipped away to another member (yes the member that pulled this deal). I see this person selling the knife again, for a bit more. I contact him to buy it for a bit less (the original selling price 4 days ago or 5??). He agrees. I make payment. Then I get 2 pms and a refund.. The PMs were what I paraphrased in my original post. That is the whole story in a nice package.

So, sure, wth. He can prove himself to those that require it.

Sorry Franz, but excuses are just that. Complete a deal, stick with this forum's rules and keep this community as straight forward as possible.

As far as I am concerned, accepting a deal on here is like shaking another mans hand in real life. It's a promise to follow through.

I understand, and admit I messed up big time. I feel ashamed and embarrassed. I understand for those of you who will choose not to deal with me, I had a major lapse of judgement and character in that moment, I am better than that and I hope I can prove that to you guys.

I agree with the OP. No need to send the ban hammer to Franz, but a man's word is worth more than a hundred dollars or so. It sounds, from your post above, that you agree. Time will tell about your integrity moving forward. This is a close community, and word spreads fast around here. Shooting straight in dealings is the factory default around these parts, forum members work hard to keep it that way.

I don't know you Franz_N or your age but I suspect younger people tend to have lapses in judgement and then learn from their mistakes over time.
Older people aren't any smarter, they have just been doing it longer.

Once I was selling a motorcycle for $3,700. After some time of the listing, a buyer came to my house and and offered $3,200. He gave me $1,000 cash down and promised the balance in another week or so (I don't recall exact details). I accepted the deal.

A few days later, another buyer called and came to the house. I don't even remember what I was thinking at the time. The 2nd buyer had $3,700 cash on him to pay my asking price. I wanted to take the money, it was $500 more and my asking price and he had all the cash. I had to tell the 2nd buyer that a deal was already done with the first buyer and I would have to get back to him.

So what did I do, I had a lapse in judgement perhaps. I called the first buyer and told him that I rec'd a cash offer for $3,700 and would he let me out of the deal? He got PISSED. He wanted my bike for the agreed upon $3,200. I even offered him $200 for the trouble ( and of course his $1,000 deposit back) .
Anyway I had to stick by my original offer and we completed the deal. $500 wasn't going to make or break me, but of course I wanted to get as much as I could and certainly my asking price.

A person's behavior cannot always be perfect... and one cannot expect other's to behave as we would.
just my perspective

What has me the most disappointed is that i have prided myself in being honest in my dealings since i started selling/trading and i have kept a good track record. There has been other instances where i had the same scenario happen to me where i got a better offer, but not once did i go back on my word, instead i would take the monetary loss but maintain the value of my word. So today has me really embarrassed and disappointed in myself because i know i'm better than that, i should not have gone back on my word, i should have maintained my deal, so for that i greatly apologize. Again for those who do not wish to deal with me further i do understand.

To add, So that i could make amends on some level i made a big price cut on the other knife i was selling, enough that i was not making a profit even having sold the other knife for more i still made myself lose money because i deserve it. I'm not saying this fixes anything, but i just wanted to demonstrate that i am not greedy at heart and i mean to prove i want to show i am sorry.

Franz will NOT be banned over this.

Just so we are all clear.

I fully agree Mike. When I said I agree with the OP, I concur that Franz is not a villain, he sounds like a good guy, that made a bad judgment. I would buy from Franz in the future.

Offer + Acceptance = Legally enforceable contract.

Don't get in the habit of breaking contracts. Some states will make you pay the attorney's fees of the guy who goes to court and gets a judgment enforcing the contract.

Well I guess I'll put my bucket of tar and feathers back in the closet but I'll keep them handy just in case. It is big of you to come in this thread and apologize, some would have just slinked away.

A deal is a deal, your word is your bond, communication and integrity is the key to a smooth transaction.

It sure isn't rocket science........................................

Or might have posted with righteous indignation how they did nothing wrong as most of the accused do in this sub-forum. But Franz stood up to his error here and that tells me a lot. Good for you, Franz. We all make mistakes. What differentiates the good guys from the bad is how we react to our mistakes.

Yup, I'm glad he commented. And so far, he seems consistent (legit). Hope this helps all of us out.. think before you act..

I'm going to close this down in a few days.. thanks everyone (you too Franz).

Good on you both.... Sloth and Franz...

You both showed you were stand up guys

Huge points for Franz_N to post here in the manner that he did. Everybody f's up from time to time, but not everybody has the sand to come forward about it.

I also keep a list of people not to deal with. Fool me once....
This:thumbup: You only burn me once!

Edit: Just to be clear My post had nothing to do with Franz I was agreeing in general with RevDevil. BTW Franz, good on you for manning up and admitting your mistake.

Super simple solution... FIELD OFFERS BEFORE YOU ACCEPT. If you accept the first or second offer, then you made your bed to lay in. If you get a good offer but want to wait and hope for a better, just let the person know. Most all buyers will understand that if a better offer comes onto the table then their offer can be pushed out. Accepting a second deal is like buying a car, and as you are putting the keys in your new car a guy blurts out "I'll offer double!" and the dealer shoves you down to go take the other offer.
