Hi All, I bought a Kershaw Shallot Damascus from damascusknifestore[.com] (is it ok to post website links in here? sorry if not!) last friday.

Anybody had some kind of experience in the past with them? Any comments opinions etc would be welcome. For some reason I don't feel 100% safe with them.

I received the order confirmation but nothing more since then (no shipping notice but it might be a bit ealry for that?)

I sent them an email shortly after the order was complete for some info and didn't get an answer either. They have that statement on their site:

We realize that great customer service is essential to success as an online store.
We are here to help. We will return all email inquiries within one business day. It is our pledge to have the best customer service department in the business.

What do you guys think? Been ripped off 100$ or I'm being paranoid a bit?

So, you give a site your money first and THEN ask for opinions on the site? Not exactly the best way to go about things...

As far as the store, never dealt with them. It was a holiday weekend (Memorial Day was yesterday), so they were likely closed yesterday, and possibly even Friday.

This also should have been posted in the GB&U subforum.

I have no experience with the company in your OP, but, I would suggest giving a BFC dealer member a try next time. They are good folks. I have dealt with the 2 below and always been treated fairly. Heck, either of them could very well lay claim to having "the best CS in the business.

Hopefully your blades show up and you don't have too much hassle. I am sure someone else will cime in to answer your original question. Much luck

Since you are asking what is being thought.

I think you need to read the sticky at the top of the general forum and create these types of threads where they belong. So that the discussion forums can be about knives rather than where to buy 'em and if so and so is reputable. :D.

Moved from General.

I have not dealt with them, but a lot of places were closed over the weekend and today (Tuesday) would be considered the first business day since Friday, since Monday was a holiday.

Terribly paranoid I would say....

Perception is reality, and although you have only posted a paranoid question; there will be those that read this as a negative towards this store. That does not hardly seem fair to them, especially since they have done nothing whatsoever to warrant such concerns. My 2cents.

Id have to agree completely.. Not to mention the OP states that he makes the knife purchase last Friday, 5/22/09 on the Eve of the Memorial Holiday weekend, and then posts this thread today... :foot:

Sheesh, give it a little time till the end of the week this week at least for the knife to ship to you.

Hehe thanks for your replies guys

I'm not worried about the fact the thing ahsn't shipped yet, but more about the fact the site looks a bit "phony"; I added these info as... info that's it ;)

In any cases, I'll keep in mind your recommendation about BFC's dealers; Actually I was "in a hurry and had to order ASAP" as this is going to be a gift for my brother and don't want to be late with it.

I already ordered a shallot ZDP from 2BrotherKnife fomr BFC and had a superb service, so be sure I'll do that again next time :P

sorry to have bothered you with this guys, I'll keep you posted if any are interested

O.

We are always interested. Let us know how it goes.

Update: Turns out communication with seller is correct, not great like with 2BrothersKnife I've recently dealt with but good none the less.

However they seem quite slow, as the knife haven't left the warehouse yet :/
Some might say it's a "normal" delay but I've had faster shipping from numerous seller before

Id agree. I anticipated you would of had deliver by today at the latest.

I think you have every right to contact them by telephone to inquire about shipping information, and specifically delivery confirmation numbers and such.. Be polite but firm. Remember, in many instances its the squeaky BLADE that gets the lubricant.. :) Please let us know how it turns out.

Did they say the knife was back-ordered? If not, then that is definitely not a normal delay. If it is back-ordered they should give you some kind of idea when it will be in stock.

No they never mentioned it was back-ordered or anything;
I've sent them an email on 6/2/09 asking for details about the shipment and the delays and all and they answered the same day with apologies for the delays.

They said the knife would ship the day after (06/03/09) and that I'd receive it by the end of the week (which was leaving 3 days which is not quite realist IMO)

I've still received nothing at all, not even a shipping confirmation :/ I've wrote an email back yesterday asking about the status once again + a proof that the knife is in the mail, or I'd ask for a 100% refund and order cancellation.

They haven't replied (yet?)

What you guys would do? Is there any sort of action I could take or did I just lost a 100$? (I'm Living in Canada)

Thanks

O.

Canada. It always helps to give us location information early on. :)

Canada Customs often holds up deliveries -- it's a hit or miss thing -- and the dealer could have shipped days ago and the delay in in transit.

I understand your point, however I've been shipped "numerous" knives before and never had to wait this long, not to mention the lack of shipping confirmation :/

I guess I'll wait a bit more and continue to hope

Thanks

A few months back I bought a Case Baby Butterbean in Damascus from these folks and had no problems. If memory serves, I received order conformation but no shipping notice. The knife arrived in a reasonable amount
of time and that was it.
I bought from them because they had everyone else covered by about
$20.00 on the price at that time.

This is encouraging, I'll wait and see
I just find it abnormal (and unacceptable in year 2009) to not have at least a shipping confirmation, so tihs got me worried a bit

O.

We get very spoiled by the automated professionalism of the big dealers with their sophisticated software and in many cases their large office staffs.

The new guys on the block are doing it all out of their home office after their day job and that's what allows them to come down on the price: next to no overhead. But service may be a bit slower.

Canada?. Wow, that sorta changes things a bit for sure.

I could tell you multiple nightmare scenarios regarding shipping knives to Canada from Florida, USA.. But I will spare you and just tell you the short version about what transpired on a most recent shipment.

I shipped identical knives with obviously identical weights in identical shipping boxes/cartons.. 1 to France and 1 to Canada at the same time on the same day..

My recipient in France got his package in 7 working days.

My recipient in the Great White North got hers in 29 working days. And it would have likely been a while longer than that but on my advise she contacted the Canadian Customs on her own, and according to her statement to me, they located her item in a huge back-log of parcels just sitting around unprocessed, and waiting for  to be processed.

I submit to you that your package may perhaps be in a similar situation. Check it out and see.

Remember, its the squeaky blade that gets the lubricant. :D

Let us know how it turns out in any event.

Still no news, sent another email to them.

I decided to order another one from knifesupply.com, we'll see what happens from there. In the worst case scenario I'll have lost 100$ :( in the best I'll have two identical knives, might sell one or something :/

I'm kind of in a hurry since I want to give one to my brother for his birthday on the 21st... He'll get a choice between the damascus or the ZDP-189 version O_O :P

Thanks all

O.

I find that most of the smaller places have faster, better service.
