What are your thoughts on EDC'ing this:

Or this :

When you can cut everything you need to on a daily basis with this :

Or this :

what I mean is how do you feel when you carry much more blade than you need just because you like said knife ?
It's very freeing to know how little I can get the job done with, but I also love certain knives even though they're much more than I need and carrying them makes me appreciate my small yet capable knives.
I feel a bit weird sometimes knowing how much more blade I may have on me than I need, but I just love said knives and carry them anyways.

I just carry what I like.
What I like in the way of folders tends to be 3.5-4.25 inches of blade (which allows me the choice of most of what most companies offer).

I haven't found an occasion where that was too much knife, but I have encountered a few--very few--instances where I needed more blade when carrying a shorter knife.
Obviously that was very, very few times, because it multiplies the few instances of when more blade is needed by the very few times I am carrying only a shorter blade. :D

Most of mine are used as work knives, I always want to say knifes.....weird!!!
So I carry 3 1/2” and up. I’d hate to be up on a roof, in the winter, and realize I need a longer blade.
Haven’t come across anything where I’d need a smaller blade.
Mostly folders for me. I have one fixed, Bradford G3 in 3v....excellent work knife.

Usually if I am going to need a fixed blade I will have some idea ahead of time and know to bring it. That said with me in Canada a knife is the only thing we can carry for self defense. That means that I sometimes consider length if I might be carrying a knife for self defense.

Definitely most cutting can be done with a tiny blade.

Erm, don't tell the policeman that though.
You can also walk with a sturdy walking stick.
I do, because of my back.
It's great...I no longer have to worry about remaining faithful to my wife, because it makes girls hold the door open for me rather than hitting on me.
Sometimes, when I'm wearing dark sunglasses, people think I'm blind, so they move out of the way so I can get on the bus easier.
Just think of how much nicer your life will be, with the lack of being hit on, and the extra courtesy coming your way! :D

Umm, don't worry my self defensive knife is strictly for non violent utility use. ;) Honestly though as I virtually never will need to use it defensively it is in all reality a utility folder.

I have dreamed of being an old man and chasing kids off my lawn with a stick ever since I was a child. I am delaying the pleasure abit longer on that one.

If I wanted to carry a certain knife I would carry it even though it was more than I needed. Eventually the novelty would wear out and I would probably switch to something else. I generally carry 3.5"-4" blades and for about half of my use that size is just right.

I know a few people who won't carry anything more than a 3" or less folder, and I do commend them for knowing exactly what they need to get the job done and stick with it.
Now sometimes I do think about how I may be carrying much more blade than I need, but then I remember how much a love the knife and that thought goes right away.
The little blades are all I really need, but that won't stop me from buying a Buck 119 to EDC when I find one at the price I want to pay. ( Gonna swap for a lefty sheath through Buck, and want it to stay budget friendly sub $60 )

I just carry what I like too.
Sometimes its a Recon Scout, other times a Case Sodbuster jr. Either choice will do all the cutting this old man ever encounters.

What is practical for one person is not always practical for another. I like smaller folders and do carry them but subscribe to the theory that a larger knife can do small knife tasks but a small knife cannot do larger knife tasks. Even if a medium stockman can do 95% of my cutting chores I still want a larger folder for that other 5% of the time.

The most useful knife I use is a SAK Cadet Alox it can handle 95% of all tasks. It is the only knife I carry 100% of the time. Depending on what I'm up to that day (if at all)I rotate a folder for more intense tasks.

I carry what I like. If I`m up in the hills in a cutblock and the surrounding trees and trails I`ll have a fixed sheath knife on my belt. If I`m working at a desk or in the city I`ll have a reasonable sized folder on my person.

I do love the larger folders and even fixed blades but don't carry them unless I am doing chores around the house or camping. I started carrying a SAK Spartan after years of carrying 3.5 - 4 inch blades daily. It is so much lighter and more versatile than my Rats and Bucks. Honestly, I love the larger knives, but don't need them.

I still carry the larger knives when I feel like it or suspect I'll need one, but I'm currently enjoying my SAK as an EDC right now, more than the awesome I feel about carrying a larger blade.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather too much knife than not enough. And ease of carry?? Come on, most people's keyrings weight more than a carryable fixed blade.

Seriously, this imperial H6 practically weighs nothing.

If I had to guess I'd say 4oz or less and I've had many folders with less blade length that weighed more.
I only have a 4 keys with a pair of TRIM clippers and a little true utility bit driver, but based on even it's weight I can see how only a little bit more on a keychain could add up to some decent weight.

Weight is no excuse people, you just need the right knife;)
