" just 'cause " VS practical utility needs

I carry two BA CS folders . Usually a L Espada and the XL Talwar serrated . Just 'cause ! You can't count on "normal" being all life will ever throw at you that needs cuttin' . If I have a particular task or feel something bad coming , I'll surely equip with some appropriate fixed blades . Being lazy and comfort seeking , my big folders are a compromise . I'd have to lug around fixed blades OAL longer then 12" to gain much . Tends to get in the way .

Two is one. One is none. From a Berber exchange a blade to my BM Bushcrafter I average 6 blades edc, not counting a Leatherman of some sorts. I use all of them on a daily basis.

When I bowhunt I actually have figure out what I don’t need. I went to it open a bil of lading and forgot my buck bantam mid the other day. Truck diver asked me if I needed a knife. Told him I was short one knife, as I grabbed my my Bushcrafter. I’m never short a knife.

6 blades, all of which you use daily? I'm curious.
Me too, I technically have 5 on me and only really use 2 of them. I've got a fixed / folder combo as my EDC for the week, plus a Vic classic and a Leatherman I don't carry for for the blades, and a tiny slipjont on a necklace.

I carry also what I want and like. I don't care of others opinions really on a particular knife (or steel for that matter)..only my personal experiences with such knives. Sometimes that's trial and error. So be it. If it feels right in hand and pocket, I'm EDC'n it.

I don't always need a Buck 110, but I carry one everyday. I love the stag and I love the style. It's subjective to what you do and what you like. I'm not about to cut the straps off an engine crate with a peanut. It can be done, but it doesn't seem efficient to me...

Erm, don't tell the policeman that though.
You can also walk with a sturdy walking stick.
I do, because of my back.
It's great...I no longer have to worry about remaining faithful to my wife, because it makes girls hold the door open for me rather than hitting on me.
Sometimes, when I'm wearing dark sunglasses, people think I'm blind, so they move out of the way so I can get on the bus easier.
Just think of how much nicer your life will be, with the lack of being hit on, and the extra courtesy coming your way! :D
Heck if you wear a great big gray hat, they may think your Gandalf from LOTR.

I've decided recently to give my SAK a go for daily carry, but as a secondary blade. Right now I'm trying out my new Bugout. So far I'm loving it!

I think many knife lovers could get their tasks done with a box cutter. When I worked retail before I got into knives, I used the corner of a flathead to break down boxes. I think most people use knives because they enjoy them, not because they are the best for the job (save a few individuals who truly need a blade).

Most of mine are used as work knives, I always want to say knifes.....weird!!!
So I carry 3 1/2” and up. I’d hate to be up on a roof, in the winter, and realize I need a longer blade.
Haven’t come across anything where I’d need a smaller blade.

Mostly folders for me. I have one fixed, Bradford G3 in 3v....excellent work knife.
Joe

I do most of my cutting with a Spyderco Urban, but I almost always carry something larger as well for just the reason @stabman mentioned. Also, for more extended cutting I find larger knives with more contoured scales to be more comfortable.

I guess I don't have to post anymore, I'll just copy, paste and quote you fine folks here from now on. :)

Me too. Carry what you like.

Seems we are in one of those periods we get once in a while where everyone comes here to ask or be told what they like. Odd.

I just carry what I like, where I work its hard to be in a place where there isn't a cutting tool within arms reach, so I'd rather just enjoy what I'm carrying rather than worry about if its too much knife. Half of the fun of knives is that glee you get out of your favorite slicey tool, not just what is absolutely necessary.

Most mornings I'm not sure what I'm gonna carry so I go to the pile of proven knives, previous winners that I know will work.

I could spend my first cup of coffee choosing. ;)

Totally this!

Lets face it, we're knife nuts. That means we're obsessed with knives. We covet them, obsess over the latest and greatest, and spend way too much money on them. Members of our own families think we're weird.

For most of us who live in urban or semi urban suburban environments, almost all we need to cut can be handled with a cheap box cutter. The vast majority of the people in the world are not knife nuts, and everyday millions and millions of them go about their lives with no knife on them and they somehow live to tell the tale. No buffalo to skin, hostile Chinese paratroopers dropping out of the sky to deal with. No Walter Mitty fantasies. No need of much knife at all really, in our 21st century lifestyle.

But what fun is that?:D

Yes, I could get by with a nice flat little box cutter, and I have on some occasions. But I would miss the nice feel of jigged bone or rosewood. I would miss the almost sensuously smooth feel of a very sharp Opinel gliding through cardboard as I break down a box to fit in the recycle bin.

I once did an experiment carrying just a box cutter. It works but I felt weird, like I had walked out the house without my pants on or something. But the box cutter cut string, opened plastic blister packages, and broke down boxes. For heavy duty use I used my old Stanley 99. It did construction work and gardening. But I was bored. The only fail was on food use.

I ended up dropping my stockman back in my pocket. Just felt better.

It's all about need vs want. We don't really need all these knives. Just like the car nut don't need a Porsche to go down to the store or commute to work. It's just personal indulgence.

I always love hearing what you have to say man
Btw beautiful stockman.

Like most everyone on here, I carry what I want. I don’t carry a larger knife but I do live in a part of the world where most men, and some women, carry knives of some sort.
