Just curious, how many do you have?

So, I have more pocketknives than I can carry at one time but I don’t consider myself a collector. After being on the forum for a couple of weeks it is quite clear there are some extensive and impressive collections out there. But I am curious, how many knives do people have? Just for the record, a friend had almost 400 guns. I told him if he ever pulled one out and said “I forgot I had that”, he needed to give it me....I never got any:(

Sticking to traditionals, five. ;) I think my high was somewhere around 20-25.

I've held onto a SAK Huntsman, Case Peanut, stainless GEC #47 Viper, 2015 BladeForums Jack, and Kellam Falcon Puukko.

I have about 40 or so. Of that, roughly 30 stay on display and are used. The others are sentimental and are in the safe. Most of those are cheap ones. But price doesn’t matter on those. Of the total, the vast majority are traditional but there are some new style in there also.

I consider myself a small time collector.

I was just counting... and I came all the folder and fixed blades included to a number of 146.

Not being counted the modern folders and SAKs.

I think I might have somewhere around 40 traditional, to include fixed blades.
So, maybe a couple more than a small few here, and far, far less than the rest.

Edit:
No "modern" knives but for a Buck 877 fixed blade.

I currently have ~12 knives thank I can think of and of those at least 5 are cheap junk I would give away if I ever thought to.

This does not include my kitchen knives which I also view as junk knives but they are needed so not giving them away. They aren't all junk 3 are decent but need sharpening the others are junk but quick sharpening keeps them in working shape.

When I got past a hundred, I made a spreadsheet to keep track of them all. Right now I have 318 traditional fixed and folders, with 99 GEC, 37 Queen/S&M/Blue Grass, 28 Victorinox, 25 Schrade USA, 21 Rough Rider, 13 Case, 11 Fight'n Rooster, to name the majority players.

I'd say roughly 90 total and well more than half fit this forum.

I'd consider myself more of an accumulator than a collector because I'd have no problem carrying and using most any of them. A few exceptions, such as having multiples of patterns I like - those also see more pocket time. Looking at it too from a collector's POV, I don't believe I would lose anything on my "investment" if I chose to move most of them, which is nice.

I have 36 at the moment, of which 14 could be in pictures here on the Traditional Subforum. What is funny, is that those traditionals represent more of an accumulation, since the knives that I actually think of as a part of my "collection" proper is only 11 of those knives, and none of those are traditional. The rest of my knife accumulation is pretty random and based on use and participation here on the Porch.

At the end of 2014 I had 2 old time folders, and 1 fixed blade.

After mail today, I have 68 old time folders, and 25 fixed blades.

Some breakdown.... 15 peanuts. 10 are Case, 5 other brands

34 of my folders are GECs
12 of the GECs are #47 Vipers
10 of my fixed blades are GECs

Yesterday I started a thread about what I carried in 2017. 99% of the year, I carried 4 knives.
I was thinking of thinning the herd, and this helps my decision. But I doubt I will get rid of too many.

I have roughly 200 but (3) of them are in the "gassing" chamber right now... so 197ish. :D I would say 90% of mine are over 40 years old and are mostly Ulster, Schrade Walden, Schrade Cut Co and NYKC Hammer Brand and Imperial Hammer Brand. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of collecting yet since I only have 2 Camillus and I have no Case knives (they seem pricey). I've seen a ton of GEC's on this forum which I had never even heard of before so I know there is lot of world out there to explore yet. I like thumbing through Goins Encyclopedia and finding some random cutlery brand to see if I can spot any while trolling on the Bay.

To start 2017 , I had around 130 Slipjoint Traditionals and 2017 has been a very good year . Plus a few fixed blades . About 45 of them are GEC's with 38 of them being Northfields . As of right now , none of them are Exact Duplicates . I would say that I have approx. 50 Case in that accumulation . In that total are probably 40 - 45 Stag covered ones .
