Just curious which front pocket do you prefer to have your trad in?

Right handed, right front pocket, jangling and scraping against the keys. Extract and hold with my right hand, left thumb in the nick and open 'er up. Pretty set in my way, but I'd like to give the coin pocket more of a try. Not sure if a 3.5 incher fits in there?

I'm right handed and carry my edc in my right front pocket. To open I hold it in my right hand and open the blade with my left. I've been doing it that way so long I think I'd cut myself if I tried to do anything else.

This is where things get confusing, being left handed but cross dominant I can't open the blade with my left hand. It just feels unnatural!

I really dig that sheath btw ( not going to get into that amusing thread about wearing a knife in a sheath) lol. Was that sheath from a company?

Nope, I made it myself from the same scrap of leather I made my Old Hickhart sheath, a Tandy belt clip, and a Chicago screw. I've made one the same way using an Opinel pouch:

They work great, I'm used to carrying a modern along with a traditional, but this "pocket clip alternative" allows me to carry nothing but traditionals if I so wish. And if anyone's wondering, I can take the sheath, turn it upside down, and shake it, and the knife won't fall out. It is very secure, but easy to remove if I want to.

Left front - Slip joint or maybe two, cel phone, sometimes a Kel-Tec P32.

Right front - Keys (which I have WAY too many of, two rings full) and change.

Left rear - Nothing! (might be a good place for another slip joint!)

Right rear - Wallet.

FordRanger, do you line the inside at all to protect your knife from the base of the Chicago Screw (female part)?

Of course the little bag of screws has managed to disappear at the moment, but the back side of the screws is not a normal grooved screw head, it is very smooth and rounded, so I just didn't bother as it does not really scratch the knife at all, but it would be easy enough to do while making it. Even afterwards, a dot of soft side velcro could be stuck on over the screw.
My other reason for not doing it was that it touches the back side scale of Rough Rider knives that I use regularly for work. I'm not exactly concerned with how pristine they look!

I'll answer the question hypothetically, since I almost never carry only one knife any more. But if I did, I'd carry it in the left front pocket, fish it out with my left hand, transfer it to my dominant right hand, and use my left hand on the blade when opening. It might sound inefficient, but my right front pocket has been reserved for keys ever since I started to drive, and the left front pocket was for coin holder, lighter (when I still smoked), comb (when I still had hair), chapstick, peppermints, knife, etc. Almost anything that came out of the LFP came out in my left hand and was transferred to my right. (My wallet is ALWAYS in right rear; I'm amazed how many folks carry wallet in a front pocket!:eek:)

Brad, I do like carrying a knife in the watch pocket if I'm wearing jeans and if the knife is shorter than 3.5". I don't find large (or even medium) knives comfortable in the watch pocket.

I gotta say that's pretty genius! Could make a business selling those handy little guys for fun! I imagine you can grab your trad pretty conveniently vs clogging up your pockets.[emoji106]

Well it depends.

If I carry the 81 it goes in the back right pocket next to the wallet or micro maxpedition.

If I carry my fixed blade and a folder they ride front right in a sheath.

If I carry a single folder under 4" it rides front right.

I do not have a smart phone. My old dinosaur flip phone rides left front along with ID and debit card if Im going light. I don't carry change. 95% of the time I carry my maxpedition micro in the back right with my edc "stuff," along with my folder and fixed in right front.

In the winter my folder rides inside chest pocket of coat.

WAIT A SECOND!!!

You wouldnt tell a carjacker where you keep your keys. You wouldn't tell a Nigerian Prince your bank account number. You wouldn't tell the IRS about your BladeForums Exchange TC Barlow profits...

...then why would you tell a Knife Knut where you keep your knife!?! Wear a lanyard on your Beer Scout knives at the Rendezvous this year ladies and gentlemen.

Back right pocket, stood upright next to my wallet. If I have a lanyard, that hangs out a bit.

Peanut or #22 Magnum in my peanut pocket, anything larger goes in my left hand front pocket along with a kerchief, i hold the knife in my left hand and open with right thumb in nail-nick, i am right handed and for some reason using my left thumb nail sets my teeth on edge.

I usually carry two traditionals to work everyday. My Case/Bose coffin jack in a leather pocket sheath with my wallet in the RFP. Keys (on a pocket dangler) and whatever other slipjoint I am carrying that day wrapped in a microfiber pocket square (declan) for glasses cleaning in my LFP. My LRP I carry a cotton handkerchief and comb and my RRP has nothing.

I am a righty but prefer to carry most things in my left front pocket.

I understand what the backside (female portion) of the Chicago Screw looks like. I have some knives that I don't care about scratches, but some I do. I was thinking a sticky dot of felt would do the trick.

Right Handed.
left front - card holder
right front - folding money, POCKETKNIFE, ( watch pocket if less than 3 1/2" )
on belt - cell phone, CUSTOM FOLDER in sheath.
on belt loop - caribiner with minimal keys.
left rear - comb ( sometimes )
right rear - handkerchief ( sometimes )

I have been noticing that which handedness determines which pocket most ppl carry their knife. So I tried something that makes no sense but I am liking. Being cross dominant again. It is now lfp carry, grab nail nick with right hand, swing open blade, Palm handle in right hand.

For precision cutting I have to revert back to my left hand though. That is unless it is whittling and then either hand works out.

Front pocket?

Watch... or none, at least without a pouch.

How to carry was a kind of a sticking point for me for years. I emphatically don't like a knife sideways in the bottom of a front pocket. While I am working I usually empty my front pockets completely. For years I would get a knife out of my toolbox along with my other most used tools and put them all on the workbench.

Back pocket carry was an epiphany for me. I started a thread about it here and BladeForums brought me along. A lot of folks do it and upon trying it I found it surprisingly comfortable and the knives held up surprisingly well. So work became back pocket carry.

I carry a small knife while not working and watch pocket carry was a no-brainer although I have washed a few that way. A clean knife is a happy knife.

Now I often have to wear gloves at work and I am in a state of flux. Back pocket carry at the bottom of the pocket is no longer an option. I have tried pocket hangers in the front and back pocket. I've tried back pocket carry with a bandana to hold the knife upright and I am looking for the perfect, clipped pocket sheath. All good but the quest continues.

Cchu518, I like your pocket sheath a lot. Can you slip the knife in and out one handed?

Most of my EDC's fit in my watch pocket. If not, if I'm carrying a second knife, or if there's no watch pocket, they go in the right front pocket in a pocket sheath. Big knives either go in a belt sheath or coat pocket, depending on the season.

Pretty much identical to what Jack said, except mine is in my britches, of course. ;):D:D:D

No keys and coins in with my knives.

I use the leather pocket sheaths a lot too.

When I am feeling knife spunky, I might load up with 3 or 4 knives, in cool weather, where I have more available pockets. ;):D
