Just finished making my first knife!!

Well I find it weird that G GMTKSU has 4 total posts. All here. And started with putting a young kid down.

Man that looks amazing. Definitely keep at it. Be cool to buy a blade from you one day!

And as for “it doesn’t look like his first time” because he went in educated. He didn’t run off blind. He studied the process and followed examples left by those more seasoned.

I’m a guitar player. Have been for nearly 20 years. 5 of those professional. I decided to make my own a few years back. And man. I did very similar to what M mihaelx has done. I watched videos of the process. I put the time and study in before I even touched wood. And the guitar is not only one of my go to guitars. But is actually very nicely done. And get compliments from people who see it or play it.

Anyway. This isn’t about me. Congrats on the knife my man. Looks killer! Don’t let the negative people shoot you dow

I didn't put anybody down, all I said is that wasn't his first try, and I stand by that. A guitar is not a knife, and I bet your guitar is not as good as you think.

You think challenging someone's honesty and integrity is not putting them down.

It appears to be a dubious claim doesn't it.

I'm starting to question everyone's honesty on this thread

Oh and their appraisal of their own abilities too.

I bet your guitar is not as good as you think.

Sixty percent of your posts to date involve putting people down. Why are you even here? Seriously.

I bet your guitar is not as good as you think.
I suppose you do have the right to your mislead comments. But then again you don’t know anyone involved. I have spent many years playing professional tour circuits, countless miles, pinpoints in every state in the Nation (minus Alaska and Hawaii.), opening and sharing stages big and small with national headlining bands. So sure. There’s a chance it may not be as good as I think. But good enough to fool some of the most seasoned and professional guitar techs this side of the pond I suppose.

But again, this post isn’t about me. And not about my guitar. It’s about a young man with a talent. And celebrating his achievements. He says it is his first. And I as well as everyone here, has no right or merit to question his integrity. Whether the knife rivals a standard butter knife, or ranks among big names, is not the point. The issue is when someone comes out of no where and calls him a liar with no grounds for such claim.

But I do hope your peed on Cheerios dry up soon. And hope your day is filled with more positivity than you’ve been seen to spew out into this forum. Have a good day sir!

You can’t comment on someone’s ability to make knives because you don’t make them. I do and can tell you that is not his first knife and there are a lot of reasons why but since you don’t make them you would not understand. Since you only made one guitar you don’t have the experience necessary to give a fair assessment of your own. I am within my rights to call someone out who is obviously stretching the truth. If you think people don’t lie about their accomplishments then you’re pretty nieve.

M mihaelx , on behalf of most of us here. I want to apologize for the actions and comments of one. I know how toxic that can be.

This is a place for community, personal skill growth as well as breaking into a form of professional skill. Or even just knife enthusiasts as myself. Whether your first or your 100th. That is a beautiful knife. And that alone is why many of us are here. Be it a 1st or a 5th attempt. It’s a beautiful tool and shows your craftsmanship. And there’s only room to grow and improve. I believe it was David Mary David Mary who said you have quite the future should you choose to pursue it on a bigger scale.

At the end of the day I know most of us appreciate the pictures of your knife. And I personally don’t want to see a negative comment hinder you from posting more in the future!

I broke it ahahhaa. I needed to straighten it after temper, snaped in half 💀💀💀💀
Are you doing shim tempers? or at least keeping the knife between two pieces of angle iron while in the oven? That would probably help.
(btw, the difference between your first knife and mine is like night and day. you really made sure to get things right on the first try 👍)

I used two pieces for my first but skipped on this one, right now im ordering a new thicker piece of 26C3 so it doesnt bend as easy, and i heard from a slovenian guy named "HelixKnives" that hamon is harder to control on thiner stock

I can’t imagine turning out a first knife looking so great. You might find it beneficial to scroll through the threads where makers ask/answer questions of all sorts. So many of the very experienced makers are very willing to mentor and share knowledge.

You are off to an amazing start!
