Just finished making my first knife!!

For what it’s worth…I believe that is a first knife build. It shows that you did a lot of research and probably put a lot of time into it. It looks really good and with refinement could be exceptional.

The first knife I ever made was terrible…however, it was more about learning to grind freehand. (Which I suck at) It was also unfinished with no handle. My first full knife build was actually quite nice, but I had 15 yrs of custom finish woodworking under my belt.

All that to say, keep plugging away, build what is fun for you, continue researching and you aren’t far away from being an exceptional craftsman.

Good luck. 😁 Looking forward to following you in your knife making adventures.

Any advice for this young man regarding how to accomplish hamon?

M mihaelx these two gentlemen are the best in the business.
Heres my question then haha
26C3, 3mm thick, 1.2-1.3 mm thick edge before heat treat, when i do 3 three normalizing cycles, do i heat to non magn and just let it lose color, or do i go below non mag (still mag).
When heat treating, do i go to non magnetic and instanly in brine(i dont have fast oil), or do i try to soak it for a min or two.
(Coal forge - cant get accurate temps, i do get nice even heat cause i put knife in a rectangular pipe)

Oh and another thing, when is heat treat ruined in the after grinding, like when i grind so hot it changes color, or when it gets too hot to touch??

Fingers crossed for you my man!!!!! Hope you get good results and some answers you are looking for!!! 👍

I dont have a lot of time at the moment cause of college, but as soon as i get more free time its gonna be great.
