Just got 4 CF/ZDP Caly 3.5's, not a single one of them has a straight blade...

I too would like to know if there is anyone else out there that has run across warped blades on this particular model. It's one I've considered buying, and may reconsider if this is a wide spread problem. So, I'm glad CTS posted about his. This is good information to have if you are looking at a particular model for purchase. Thank you for posting up about your problems with this model CTS.

ps, im not a fanboy or saying that he should be ecstatic about this issue.

i cant feel bad for a guy who buys 4, doesn't look at 1 and then instantly goes public before attempting to handle it.

contrary to what some people think, it can be harmful to a company's rep.

let's not be childish here. jdavis knows what needs to be done to resolve this...

i agree it looks like another attempt at getting attention.

davis,

dont get the wrong impression here because i could honestly take ya or leave ya but the guy (nullity) does have a point.

he's basically saying "hey, why can't you privately contact spyderco regarding your issue before going public and potentially starting another drawn out company drama fest thread". haha.

however, in your defense i can understand just wanting to know if it is a common occurrence with this zdp caly.

my question is...

usually you inspect before you buy...

you just had to have four of these, why didn't you even just glance at one??? seems odd.

either way you know that spyderco CS will take care of you.

I picked them up yesterday, on the way home from Atlanta. My wife and dogs were waiting in the car. I literally walked in, picked them up and left. Opened them up last night and noticed the problem.

Yea, whenever you have a problem, especially 4 in a row, its obvious that its a very rare occurrence and would serve the community best if you kept it a secret and just swept it under the rug.

I just got a new PM2 the other day and it was missing a handle screw from the factory, but I was so thankful that spyderco even allowed me to purchase a knife from them that I didn't dare question it. I'm just going to consider it a rare factory error and maybe one day it will be worth a fortune like misprinted US currency. I recommend you do the same. :D

Same thing (attacks and anger) happens on the Kershaw forum if you don't contact them to fix before posting about, CRK's forum also. I remember one thread where someone sent it in, got it back with another problem, and only then posted about it. Nevertheless, he had anger directed at him for not waiting until he contacted the company a second time before posting

Myself, I appreciate you posting it because I want one and wouldn't want to deal with Spyderco's CS if I don't have to. It will be interesting to see if others notice the same thing. I'll wait a few batches just in case.

Just wondering, why'd you buy four of them?

That may have been my thread. And, yup, I did wait until AFTER I had gotten the knife back from customer service to post up. It had additional problems AFTER I got it back. It ended up taking two trips to the factory before it was fixed right. But, I sure was chastised for posting about my issues. It's almost as if fan boys don't want the public to know about any problems that come up with their brand of knives. Well, it helps others to know about issues with particular models. I know threads like this helps me to know more about issues to look for in knives that I'm considering to purchase. Oh well, I guess it gives them something to do. I took it in stride, and moved on. CTS keep us posted on how you resolve your issues bud.

i'm not here to argue. just making a point and my point is we all know spyderco will take care of mr. jdavis.

you think they're going to tell him to pound sand??

i highly doubt it.

maybe he's onto something but i personally would have contacted them through email as opposed to a public forum.

some will disagree, thank you and probably steer clear from the zdp caly now.

more power to ya.

I am not going to apologize for posting about my issues. I can't very well give Spyderco a call on Saturday and ask them about it.

The main point of this post was to hear from others with the same knife. If any of you feel like that's out of line or disrespectful, then that's a problem on your end. I suggest clicking on a different thread and reading something that gives you the warm and fuzzies.

Why should he care about a company's reputation if they're putting out faulty products? It should be their job to protect their reputation by either avoiding the problem in the first place or getting it fixed quickly. Personally, I would have contacted the support department right off, but what's wrong with posting a thread wondering if other people have come across the same problem? Also, has jdavis actually stated that he isn't contacting them?(It is after all... Saturday.)

In regards to him buying four of them without even inspecting them, doesn't this speak to how awesome of a reputation Spyderco has and how good of him it was to trust said reputation? And look where it got him... :)

My two cents.

I would say you are off base. Just look at the thread about the brand new Ti military with chewed up clip. They called spyderco and they wanted to charge them for a new clip. They post here in the forums and sal himself gets them a new clip for free.

and everyone comes in to praise spyderco for how awesome they are. I find that thread shameful, its basically saying that if you drop $200 on a new knife and the clip is a dud your only option to have the problem resolved fairly is to post a thread about it because customer service will tell you to either buy a new clip or kick rocks.

No no no , there's no problems with those knives, it must be you and your fault alone. That's why I dropped my BH number, fanboy crap is deep.

i didnt necessarily say it was wrong, i simply suggested contacting spyderco before going public. you can label me a fanboy (when im certainly not) and i'll respond with calling you a jdavis fanboy.

he seems to have a reputation of stirring things up on the forum. people will defend him and people will argue.

we all know that spyderco doesn't manufacture junk but they are human and from time to time make mistakes.

they get my respect is that they will promptly rectify the problem. some companies can't be told they're doing wrong.

i also said that i do understand him wanting to know if others had the same prob....just not something i would have done.

Lol my God, drama llamas are running rampant on this forum!

Any of you guys with the new Caly 3.5 ZDP, I'd like to know if your blades are bent as well. With 100% of mine being off, I'd venture to say that this is a pretty wide spread phenomena. Of course there's no way to know without a thread discussing the issue. Feel free to join in with your sample if you have one.

If you could post a image, that would be great.

everybody talks about how japan and taiwan make the best spyderco's. the military in my pocket is perfect and it was made by a us citizen..... but lets still buy blades made over seas;):D

thats a whole different thread ;)

thats a whole different thread ;)
this was a thread about a QC issue. it was a legit post and everybody got but hurt so i just wanted to add a little bit of fire as well as state my opinion on japan and taiwan. normally im not the person to do that but i wanted to have a little bit of fun ;)

Man, some people are just a little too sensitive. Its a forum for discussion. Let's not act like the guy who bought the faulty product is at fault here, that makes no sense.

I also think the argument that its hurting a company's business or reputation is a bit much. I mean no consumer on the planet thinks a company can't have a faulty product or two, right? Can a thread like this have anymore impact than a review stating the same problem?

I would be interested in knowing about the issue though. I have been eyeing one of these myself.

To the fanbois.

This forum is here to discuss Spyderco knives. The good and bad.

If there is a production issue with this model, Spyderco would like to know about it.
Sal has said in the past, the forums are here for this purpose and more.

CTS thank you for bringing this possible issue to our attention and I look forward to hearing from others who have the new Caly 3.5 ZDP as it has only started to ship this week and many don't have theirs in hand yet to inspect. I hope we can keep this thread constructive instead of spiraling out of control.
