I think the Mammoth inlay is my favorite--couple that with damascus and you have a real winner. Sadly, I don't know that I could use such a knife--too beautiful.

That is a striking blade you have there!

Well, I 'thought' I had one shipping today but got the call from the dealer
and it appears I was hornswaggled out of the one listed on their site.
Strangely enough, they took my credit card info, said it would ship in the
morning but someone had called in a few hours earlier and put something
down on that knife :( Now, I had left a message on their phone the day
before but never got a call back, called the next day and after I called
I got the call back and we did the deal, only to get a call at lunch time
today saying sorry.

They did try to direct me to other sites that were suppose to have recently
received mammoth inlay's but they are sold as well. So, I'm out of luck and
not overly pleased either...but what can you do eh? Lucky guys here that
have their mammoth inlays, I was shooting for a bark mammoth one this time
large classic but will have to wait and wait and wait....

I'll consider it Dave, no actual harm done, no money taken, just
a loss of luck on my part, if there were problems of a more harmful
nature, I would post something right away.

I bought a small Sebenza smooth mammoth ivory which will be here in a few days. I'm looking forward to hold it.

What are your opnions about the durability. Will the ivory put up with daily carry?

Marthijn

The mammoth had been in the ground for million of years at sub-zero temps so i think it will wear another 100 years or so.Ivory is a very dense and strong material-look at pistol grips on civil war era-just looks better with age.Ivory does need moisture to keep from cracking(which would be more prevelant in large art pieces).Normal handling will absorb oils from your hands and in time give ivory a beautiful patina. It's my favorite natural material for that reason.I sold my 2 ivory sebenzas and now regret it.But i've still got my large LE california buckeye burl which is my EDC and it has beautiful grain pattern that just gets better also.No problems with ivory but remember-the more you handle the more character it will develop.By the way nice thread and it makes me want another!

Some pics of my Pacific in the mountains of Hualien on the Pacific coast of Taiwan

Attached is a photo of my son's Yarborough Knife mounted on the Special Forces plaque that Chris Reeve Knives sells. The plaque will work with the Pacific knife as well as the Green Beret knife and of course the Yarborough if you happen to be a Special Forces soldier. You can bring your "Safe Queen" out to the living room! Sorry for the small photo. :D
