Just lost a $300 knife with USPS...

Really sorry man, there are some good ideas here. I'd be VERY NICE talking to the postman, all of the neighbors, maybe check the dumpster for the box. Beg, Plead, Pray. Good luck, you have my prayers for now, and hopefully you won't need my condolences.

Everytime I read these stories (about mailmen/neighbours stealing stuff and such) I have to chuckle a little at the irony. (I do feel sorry for the people that are involved in these things though.

I live in Europe and there's a whole bunch of sellers RIGHT NOW who won't sell outside of the US because they feel that somehow shipping outside of the US is more of a risk.

I hardly EVER hear these kind of stories about European countries.

I do feel bad for the guy out $300 though. I hope it still shows up. I sent a guy a knife once and it showed up a whole month later. Initial delivery time would've been 3 days. Keep pestering the postal system and hang in there!

I'm sorry for your loss, but ALWAYS insist on insurance. An insured item is only "Delivered" after you SIGN for it.

Years ago I found out the USPS does not investigate uninsured losses. That sends a clear message to Postal Employees == if it's not insured, it's a "Free Gift". They kind of see it as a job perk.

USPS, UPS, and FedEx all practice the "drop it and run" delivery method. That will never change untill they become liable for those losses. At least I have a single family home, and something at my front door can't be easily seen from the street.

well, gosh, multi hundred dolar knife, condos, USPS (how much doe a knife cost to ship....$5), and someting went wrong? Next time, if you're dropping that kinda dough, have the seller send UPS or FEDEX Overnight, signature required, and have it sent to where you are, or to someone you trust. THINK!

Wow, reading stuff like this always sucks. Sounds like it could have been avoided, though. In the opinion of most online sellers, once the package leaves our hands there's nothing we can really do. It's not our fault if it gets lost or stolen. That's why insurance and signature confirmation exists though. It doesn't sound like the seller lived up to their responsibilities in this case. I've been selling online for years and anything over $250 should be insured with signature confirmation.

How did you pay? Paypal? You should be covered, in that case, if the seller didn't use signature confirmation.

I have had this happen, call UPS and tell them you did not get the package. It is their job to make sure you get it.

They leave my packages on the highway 3 miles from my house, talk about service!

I'm sure that one of the big reasons that people in the US don't want to ship knives out of the country has nothing to do with foreign postal systems but rather the very real concern that customs agents will confiscate the knives as soon as they reach the destination country. It's not at all uncommon for this to happen.

I had something like this happen to me. Where the website says something was delivered but when I checked my mailbox it surely wasn't. This was Canada Post though, I guess a frequent thing mailmen do (at least in my city) is that once they receive the items that they will need to deliver for the day they will scan the items as received and delivered seconds apart. This way it saves them from having to change the status for each item after the actual delivery-or in other words it saves the lazy arse from having to take a couple of seconds to change the status.

My personal experience this happened twice. When I tracked my order it says my item arrived in my city at 9:46 AM and Was already out for delivery at 9:49 AM and something similar the second time. The first order was in my mailbox when I got home, the other time it took a full week before it arrived.

I suggest you call the person you bought the item from and ask them to call USPS and start an inquiry. Hopefully, it just turns out the item is still in the mailman's truck and you would get the item in the next few days. Best of luck.

Actually, in most European countries this is VERY uncommon.

I sure hope it shows today.

Since you live in a Condo, In the future always ask for USPS Signature Confirmation. If insured, and item is over $200 you will have to sign and won't need SC.

bake a tray of brownies infused with 24 ex-lax tablets. Put the brownies in a shipping box and set it in front of your door. When the package is stolen and you hear the toilet flushing all night, you'll know where your knife is.

lmao :d

I only had this bad luck a few times with books and board games not being delivered, luckily not with knives if i remember well.
I recommend to check with all your neighbours.

Delivered doesn't mean delivered. Here in my town, when a Confirmation Delivery package comes into the post office and is sorted and put in the route box for the appropriate mailman it is marked/scanned "delivered". The mailman might be out on his route already and the package won't be picked up by him until the next day. If that next day is a Sunday, the package won't be delivered until Monday.

That's exactly what my local PO told me.

Hoping this is going to turn up today. Be sure and let us all know Cassull. Good luck.
