Just lost a $300 knife with USPS...

Hope your knife turns up today. This is why I always insist on signature confirmation whether I am the buyer or seller. When I'm selling I don't know the house/apartment/condo layout of the buyer, for all I know his front porch could be exposed to a street with heavy foot traffic. Worse case if the buyer isn't there to sign for the item he can take the little notice and go to his USPS office the next day to pick it up in person. Next time ask the seller to buy the signature confirmation.

I had a similar issue a couple years ago. I too live in a condo and I ordered a large Spyderpac and instead of receiving the pink "pick it up at the PO" slip, I was told it was delivered. I told them that was impossible because the package would not fit in the condo sized mailbox. I was told by my PO that USPO carriers, unlike UPS or FedEx, are not allowed to leave packages by your door. They must be placed in the mailbox or picked up at the PO. The carrier is not even allowed to hand you your own package unless you can provide the key that unlocks your mailbox or, if you live in a house, they see you exit and enter the house. I didnt pursue the issue with the PO because the sender was willing to ship me another one, but it turns out the package was delivered to a house incorrectly 1 street over. I hope it works out for you but check back with the PO and have them ask the carrier specifically.

I hope all goes well i have been having problems with usps lately as my old mail carrier retired and we got a new one who i swear is the definition of an idiot, I was tracking a package and it showed it was out for delivery well i caught her at our box and saw she didn't put a box in my mailbox i promptly stopped her and asked her where my box was, I explained that i had tracked it and it was in her truck, she refused to look for it , she just gave me a go to hell look and drove off, well about an hour later i got a knock on my door from my neighbor with my box in his hand, she had delivered it to him. 3 or 4 days later I did a trade on here and we both got 300.00 insurance on our knives, so we would both haft to sign and the knives were both worth 300.00, well i work nights so i got up at like 8 a.m got on the couch and put a sign on the door that said knock loud i work nights please wake me up i haft to sign for a package, well i woke up no knock at the door had happened, I walked to my mailbox and my 300.00 knife was sitting in my freakin mailbox, Needless to say I've called her supervisor about 5 times this month.

but to the op yes it is usps fault that your package may of been stolen or delivered to the wrong house, but some of the blame should be on the seller too for not getting the package insured , thats poor business ethics IMO shipping someone a $300 knife without making them haft to sign for it. I've recieved knives directly from benchmade and spyderco , after some warranty work and they both shipped the knives to me ups, and I had to sign for both of them, they made sure i got my knife..

USPS is terrible where I live. I try my best to remember to beg anyone shipping me anything to ship UPS or Fedex. I once had a $15k check lost in the system for over a month. I only made that mistake once. I know USPS is the competitive option for a lot of sellers, but... I hate the post office.

Same here!!!!

Hope all turns out well for you. I know it is stressful. I had a 800.00 money order come up missing, and a custom XM-18 that was sent from Germany but in the end everything turned out alright........about 2 months later on the XM, and the money order was sent back to me with an apology letter that someone had accidentally opened it. Hopefully someone will get you your knife back to you.

This was definitely an eye opener. I already went ahead and contacted the 3 people who will be shipping a knife to me to make sure they ship with sig confirmation, I'll happily pay the difference.

Hey guys, great news!

I just checked the mailbox and guess what was waiting for me?

You guys were right, the mailman prematurely checked off package as delivered when it really wasn't. This pretty much ruined my weekend, but now that I have it, I couldn't be happier.

Let me just take this moment to say how AWESOME the creator of this knife is. James Allen, the man behind Three Sisters Forge and I kept in touch with each other through out the entire weekend. If you see my mailbox, you'd see over 20 e-mails sent between us. I let him know what had happened and he said that he had my back. Even though it was labeled plain as day that the mail had been delivered to me in the tracking site and he did not know me prior to placing an order. He trusted me and offered to send me another knife. We shot the breeze all through the weekend and I learned a lot about his life and family. He is very quick on the email replies and a very awesome guy. By far the most helpful individual I've ever met online, let alone knife maker.

I suggest you guys check him not, if not for his awesome beefy knives, than for his character.

Great outcome dude. It pays to keep the faith. The USPS is not really so bad...if not perfect by any means. I have never had problems. I was pulling for you, watching this thread, and I had a feeling it would end this way. I presume to speak for this whole community but look...5 pages! These people cared how this came out for you and that says a lot. Congrats on your new knife and quite frankly, congrats for getting your fair share of good luck. Enjoy. QB

Thanks a lot, man. I spent the entire weekend and workday today feeling down/anxious/stressed, but now I feel as if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I will sleep well tonight. :)

Thanks to everyone who pulled for me. And to those who still haven't gotten their package, now I can honestly say I know how you guys feel. :(

Glad you received your knife, it's real nice!

As far as the USPS goes, I've had some issues with them and let me tell you, the USPS needs to go out of business...they are useless. From not receiving packages on time as you just had the joy of dealing with, to this past Monday, they didn't even deliver the mail at all. I had letters going out in my box and they never even picked them up.

"Through Rain, Sleet, Hail or Storms"....... "MY ASS!"

Let UPS take over.

USPS will do that time to time with scanning before its delivered... I had my heart sink a few times even chased down the mailman... just to have it delivered the next day...

They aren't ready to go under because of their efficiency.
FedEx, UPS and the others wouldn't even exist if not for the incompetence.

Glad everything turned out fine. I have never had an issue with USPS and I appreciate what they do. Where else can you send a knife from coast to coast in 3 days, insured and tracked, for around 10 bucks? UPS? FedEx? NOT!

This pretty much ruined my weekend

YOUR weekend? What about the rest of us, my nails are bitten to the quick?!

Glad to hear it's had a happy ending and that you got your knife. Enjoy! :)
