Just no at testing knives like this.

I don't see that as testing, I see that as entertainment type of content.

If I was about to buy a knife - I would probably watch his video too, but it would definitely not influence my decision to purchase or not - as that is no real world use. Actual reviews of these knives for real world tasks would be what I'd take into consideration.

His videos would be more useful if he always did the same things in same order for every knife, yet he doesn't.

If a knife does very well in his video - it is probably very soft, and most likely won't hold an edge well.

I think his videos do have a purpose, primary one being entertainment, second one being removing your fears that you'll break your knife. His videos really show how much abuse some knives can take. But in all honesty - nobody stabs cars or smashes rocks with their knives in real world use.

I noticed how they really praise cheap knives such as:
Glock knife
Mora Robust
Hultafors Heavy Duty
Terava Jakaripuukko

And I really like that about them. Because someone broke, someone in hard situation or someone from developing country who may not be able to afford or even get anything better will stumble upon their videos when searching their knife and they will feel better about themselves. They will be happy with their knife. Or they will find a decent knife within their budget, and that knife will stand up to their use.

In all reality these people won't care much about what steel is used or how much cardboard or pieces of rope it can cut before going dull. All they care about is performance. As long as it can do what they need it to do - they will be satisfied.

I can see why his fanboys can find this infectious. Like said before - these tests don't prove anything in the field of how useful the knife will actually be but it can be rather interesting to see how tough some of the affordable knives can be in comparison to some higher end princess knives.

Tbf LostCause the Terava knives (including the Skrama) are fantastic functional knives at any price point.
Exactly. Mora is functional too, and so is Glock (got one as Christmas present).

Glock knife is not sliciest or the best for knife stuff, but it works in a pinch, and you can also throw it or pry and dig with it (I'm not doing those tho). Good beater in any case.

Glock is mostly combat oriented though.
And Terava knives are real working knives.
Mora is more towards bushcraft...

The point is - neither of the 3 will disappoint you or fail you. Terava is better all rounder than other 2, but also costs more than 2 of them combined (30€ for Glock, and 13€ for Mora Robust).

If that isn't a thing it ought to be. If only someone on here had access to multiple knives in various steels and an entire grove of bamboo.
I did find a batch of bamboo the other day near me in the swamps...no idear how it got there. guess someone planted it years ago.....

now if only i had a bunch of modern steel knives to test......

From the video: "...usually I speak Albanian..." and suddenly it all made sense.

I used to be very critical of that guy (Joe X). But not so much now.

The folding stiletto has always been my favorite knife. But they were never very robust. Until Lynn Thompson started producing the Ti-Lite series. Cold Steel released a video showing how strong, and how much abuse a Ti-Lite 6 can take before failure, and I was impressed by it, but they were promoting their own product.

Then I watched a video of Joe X beating the hell out of a Ti-Lite 6. Joe X intentionally tries to destroy knives, and he's no fanboy of Cold Steel, so I know he's not holding back or trying to hide any failures. Seeing how much abuse he could inflict on the Ti-Lite 6 before failure left me REALLY impressed with how strong the Ti-Lite 6 is.

The Ti-Lite 6 is my all-time favorite knife, and after several decades with folding stilettos of questionable strength and construction, I really like knowing that the Ti-Lite 6 is a VERY strong knife. And I consider the Joe X video to be the best evidence of that.

There is nothing scientific or clinical about what Joe X does. And I still have issues with how he evaluates knives. I'm not a fan, but I'm no longer the harsh critic I once was. And when I want to demonstrate to people just how strong the Ti-Lite 6 is, I don't direct them to the Cold Steel video, I direct them to the Joe X video.

Even knuckleheads who intentionally destroy knives can have value in the knife world.
