Just to clarify, the knives given away in our OIF/OEF programs are the US Made Tan Native. The byrd knives that Sal refers to are being purchased by men and women currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan (in addition to other locations). We do have some idea as to how the knives are used, we are lucky enough to receive correspondence from many of the men and women using our products (both Spyderco and byrd). We're very proud of how both lines have performed for those who need them the most.
hvydrop, thank you for your service. You and others in service are why we do what we do. We appreciate you.

Hi Hvydrop, No offense intended. Sorry it was taken that way.
I don't think that you came here to "Diss" the model. I do think that your analysis was a bit surprizing.
Whatever standards you are personally using to judge the byrds are yours, and I can accept your opinion.
We feel that we have set a new standard with the quality / price of our byrd brand.
As you mentioned, we can respectfully disagree.
I hope there are other Spyderco models that will please you.

.........among the many, many reasons....the typical tenor of Sal's and tazkristi's responses, as exemplified here, are certainly in large measure why I take such pleasure in supporting Spyderco.
Let me also extend a big "thank you" to Hvydrop for his service to our country !....and I too, believe we all can choose to respectfully disagree. And I hope you can see Hvydrop, that Sal and Company play it pretty straight and are NOT prone to "blindside" folks on a discussion forum.....and even encourage honest dialog and dissent. Also, it's clear they set the standard for respectful participation on the forums. Much can be learned by observing the way in which they treat EVERYONE.....irregardless of someone's "approach". Also, they are quick to offer those who are interested, the opportunity to "amend" their demeanor.
