Just Ordered the Cara Cara

Just to clarify, the knives given away in our OIF/OEF programs are the US Made Tan Native. The byrd knives that Sal refers to are being purchased by men and women currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan (in addition to other locations). We do have some idea as to how the knives are used, we are lucky enough to receive correspondence from many of the men and women using our products (both Spyderco and byrd). We're very proud of how both lines have performed for those who need them the most.

hvydrop, thank you for your service. You and others in service are why we do what we do. We appreciate you.

Kristi

Hi Hvydrop, No offense intended. Sorry it was taken that way.

I don't think that you came here to "Diss" the model. I do think that your analysis was a bit surprizing.

Whatever standards you are personally using to judge the byrds are yours, and I can accept your opinion.

We feel that we have set a new standard with the quality / price of our byrd brand.

As you mentioned, we can respectfully disagree.

I hope there are other Spyderco models that will please you.

.........among the many, many reasons....the typical tenor of Sal's and tazkristi's responses, as exemplified here, are certainly in large measure why I take such pleasure in supporting Spyderco.

Let me also extend a big "thank you" to Hvydrop for his service to our country !....and I too, believe we all can choose to respectfully disagree. And I hope you can see Hvydrop, that Sal and Company play it pretty straight and are NOT prone to "blindside" folks on a discussion forum.....and even encourage honest dialog and dissent. Also, it's clear they set the standard for respectful participation on the forums. Much can be learned by observing the way in which they treat EVERYONE.....irregardless of someone's "approach". Also, they are quick to offer those who are interested, the opportunity to "amend" their demeanor.

- regards

I have a G10 Cara Cara and have been very pleased with it's performance. For the price I would like to see any knife that comes even close. You just can't please some people.

Darn that infernal brainwashing, even a Reynold's Grade A-1 Tin-Foil Hat™ is not protection against it!

Well said Sal.

I guess we know who is a gentleman and who is not. ;)

Check this out french fried faggot, your a phucking mouth piece. YOUR THE ONE COMPLAINING BECAUSE I WON'T JUMP IN ON YOUR F'N BANDWAGON!!! PULL YOUR HEAD FROM YOUR 4TH POC AND REALIZE THAT NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME FREAKING OPINION AS YOU! :jerkit:

Spare me sal, send me a free knife and I'll tell you I like it. But do you know the capcity in which these knives are used? Hmmm, I'd imagine [from my personal experience] their opening MRE's back at an AF. I sure as phuck wouldn't daisy chain that POS cara cara to my IBA or belt loop and start rolling out of a fire base.

Truthfully sal, I was starting to get into spyderco's again, just bought a native (good lil knife BTW) and was getting ready to buy another endura (one of my main EDC as a Paratrooper), but your lil indirect slap at me and the other general attitude of [most of] your brainwashed consumers has left me feeling sour. Maybe that's a sign that my money should go else where.

FYI, sal I'm sure you realize that from the my intial post, that I was never here to "Diss" this knife.

31 posts seem about enough for this chump. I predict he won't make 100 here.

hvydrop if you know of a knife that is better built or has better steel in the same price range as the cara cara or even a few doller more like say under 40$then let me know what it is as i am always looking for good knives for as little cash as possible for a beater at work that way i dont have to use my customs and have the fear of losing them.

thankyou

My Dear Friends,

I just received my Byrd Cara Cara and am positively amazed at the quality for the price. I have seen knives twice the price with less attention to fit and finish. It is also amazingly sharp, much to my surprise. Good ergos, built like a tank, and Torx-screw construction. What's not to love? :D

Sorry - I can't see the problem with this knife. It shan't likely replace my P'Kal as my EDC for SD, but it will definitely be a regular carry piece for general cutting chores (and to be perfectly honest, I would use it as an SD piece in an emergency with no qualms about the ability of the knife to perform).

I am awaiting my additional Cara Cara's to arrive. On for the jump bag and one for the wife. Thank you Sal.

The thing about the internet is anyone can claim to be anything wish. Hvydrop claims to be some kind of very important war hero but my money is still on Mall Ninja at best. I have noticed that the true heros and real bad asses don't have to talk about it all the time and force people to respect them. We get it Hvydrop, you are a big time SpecialForcesNavySealBlackOpGreenBeret. Blah, blah and blah. Apparently you know of many better knives than the Cara Cara that sell for less but it is top secret and if you told us, you would have to kill us.:jerkit:

Clearly $20 is a lot of money for you and you are used to getting a LOT more for the money than a G-10 Cara Cara. I mean, I was watching cable last night at about 2:00am and I could have bought 20 Frost knives for only $19.99! I even saw a real Faux ivory handled dagger that I could have bought for $19.99. Why have a Cara Cara when you can get so much more on cable!:D

I am recomending Hvydrop as PT of the week over in the Pirate's Cove!:p

Please dont encourage the troll!!!!!

I'm not encouraging the troll but this post from a thread he began gives a bit of insight as to his knowledge level, by his own description. I for one wouldn't argue. Joe

I am a Cherry when it comes to Knife Sharpening, any Tips or Advice?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, I am pretty much a maroon regarding knife sharpening. The other day I almost rounded a small pocket knife I was attempting to sharpen. Any simple hints, tips or advice for a newb?

I have a course/fine benchstone and an Arkansas stone, and will be recieving a Spyderco Sharpmaker soon.

What about Strooping? Can I use leather belt? I'm confused there?!?

Thanks

Have fun "strooping" all your high quality knives bud. Joe

Sal, you are 100% a class act and it makes owning your knives that much more rewarding!

Sal
let me say I am gratified the you treated hvydrop the way you did, the guy is an A** but you were beyond professional in the way you treated him. I really hope he was not in our armed forces and it was all hot air because I would hate to think someone like that was defending and representing this country.
I was never much in to Spydercos in the past, not that they were bad products but I just didn't like the look of them and was never a big fan of serrated edges. While I do not have the Cara-Cara I do have a Raven and a Crow and they are defiantly worth a lot more than they cost(under $20).I even gave away a couple to coworkers.

I think I am going to buy another G-10 Cara Cara just because Hvydrop showed me that there is nothing that compares to it for the price. I asked him to name a few knives that were better or just as good but he couldn't. With all his experience and medals of honor, that is saying a lot. By his lack of response in naming a better knife for $20, I take that to mean there isn't one. He knows his stuff and you all better listen or he is going to take his ball and go home. Boo-hoo!:(

Where do jokers like Hvydrop come from? Are they born that way or do they become that way to get attention? I see them on all the gun and knife forums, they always give themselves a grand military screen name which grants them instant respect. They call themselves things like NavySeal1, BlackOp, and a host of other cool sounding names. The thing is, I know a few guys that have actually done things and been places and none of them advertise it like these jokers do. The real deal bad asses, are almost always low key and quite. They have something called self confidence so they don't feel the need to make sure everyone around them is aware of what they have done and who they are. They know they are the real deal, they don't care if you know it or not. I mean that, they really don't care.

I have a friend that was a Marine is Iraq. He has seen some crazy things and been through some rough situations. He dresses like a punk rocker but is soft spoken and is nice to animals. He is not some brash a-hole that picks fights with couples minding their own business at the bar at Applebee's.

Sorry for the rant but I have a gift of being able to see BS a mile away. I hate it when these turds hide behind military names and tell people they are something they aren't. It forces respectfull people to give them the benefit of the doubt even when they don't deserve it.
