just out of curiosity

man, we are definitely a very diverse crowd...lol. Another reason why this is such a great sub-forum.

The best of luck to the ones who have been laid off (JRB,Grimspoon,Skrapmetal,d762nato,Ankerson,Greg45). Sorry to hear that, I've been there also, and sometimes I actually have nightmares about it happening again :(
I ain't 'fraid to admit it :)

Partner in a small Oil & Gas firm (mostly Gas and Land Man type work).

Previously I was a Software Consultant and Project Manager for 15 years.

I was a welder/ironworker for 12 years and now I am a warehouse worker

Used to work as a broker on wall st for years then became a high school history teacher for at risk youth here in NYC.

Left teaching this year to go back to grad school full time and just started (last week) on a masters in animal behavior & conservation.

Loved teaching history, but think Id enjoy conservation education even more - especially if I can find work in africa or out west working for a museum, zoo nonprofit or national park.

After years as a mechanic (Army and civilian), illustrator/photographer, custom fixture and furniture maker and made living from just about all aspects of living space construction I have been elevated to the esteemed postition of School District Facilities Maintenance Technician.:rolleyes:;):D

@archli9ht

Sounds like we got similar backgrounds, I used to do programming for health care also. did some DME billing software, and a few indigent patient service approval systems for mental and physical health care.

After so many years of putting my time in, I now program load search software for truckers :confused: lol I work for Getloaded.com, if I mention the name first people usually think we sell bongs or something.

I miss the health care stuff sometimes, it felt a bit more prestigious, the thing that finally made me leave was the stress and the extremely high liability not to mention my mornings usually consisted of fixing all the stuff my boss broek the night before.

Recovering Graphic Artist, currently a slimy bureaucrat (Emergency Management) and SAR volunteer...

I'm sure I'll be laid off soon enough. But for now, I'm a filmmaker... and I don't know how to do anything else, so, that's reassuring.
