Just received my PM2 today...It's not sharp....at all.

Oh snap! The mods are coming the mods are coming. LOL. Simmer down everyone.

lol, I tried not to get pissed off but couldn't help it. Not once did I bash Spyderco or say their product sucks. This is my first Spyderco and I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this, that's all.

This is what happens when a company grows so quickly that it can't keep the same quality control. People were clamoring for more Para-2's, and you got them. Along with all the other things that come with ramped-up production and new employees.

I agree with cbxer, you need to learn to sharpen it yourself. I do that to all my new knives so that it has exactly the edge that I want it to have.

Hi Minimalist,

That is certainly not normal. We have a reputation for shipping some of the sharpest knives available. It's been our specialty for more than 30 years. I would suggest that you send it to us, call it to my attention. I would like to get the edge under a scope before anyone messes with it. We'll take care of you.

I had another knife that supposedly came dull, had the customer send it to me and the edge had obviously been tampered with before the customer received it. Sorry for the hassle. Would you also let me know where you purchased the knife with the knife? (not on the forum).

Thanx,

sal

It might be used. It might not. How does the bevel look? Look at the edge. It's possible it was used some. It's possible it was returned for being dull out of the box.

I suggest selling it for some profit and buying a sharpmaker. Then try again in a year or so.

edit: And the company owner responded as I was typing. Do as he asks instead.

Wow. Once again Sal steps in and personally takes care of the customer. Best customer service in the business!

This is one thing I love about Spyderco; Sal takes a personal interest in quality control issues. In my mind that is the mark of a great manufacturer.
OP I hope it all works out well for you; Spyderco knives should be a pleasure to own and use from the very start.

I simply asked a question.

Right. Hey, how about some more life lessons please?

1) I wasn't bitching. I was asking a question.

2) Reading comprehension must not be your strong suit. The price was for a new knife from a reputable dealer. I got lucky and I was able to get one when all others are sold out everywhere because it was returned. Not once did I ever think it would be used nor did I "admit to expecting that it was used." You don't return something used unless you're a scumbag. I said it must be used because I hadn't really heard anybody say they received a new dull knife while doing my research. However, this thread has said otherwise.

3) Spare me on your almighty BS. God forbid I ask a question that upsets you sensitive Spyderco fanboys.

4) I'd still buy plenty of knives from Spyderco and plan on buying an Endura 4 soon as well. I simply asked a question.

Reading comprehension?

Did you read this?

If you're not happy with the knife you received, send it back.

As a buyer that is your right
.

Buying a Knife that you know is not as shipped from the factory and then having the nerve to come to The Company's Forum and complain about it is very poor form, at least you should have given your dealer (or the mfg.) a chance to make it right before airing your laundry.

I see Sal has stepped up to take care of the issue for you, as he always does.

You state:

I wasn't bitching.

Not once did I bash Spyderco or say their product sucks.

Please use your Reading Comprehension to re-read the title of this thread:

Just received my PM2 today...It's not sharp....at all.

If that's not bitching, ...it must be trolling.

I suggest trying some fresh from the factory Spyderco's before passing judgement.

Personally, if I had the remotest suspicion this may have been "used", then back it goes. As far as spending more money on top of what was already spent on a supposed new knife by sending it to Spyderco for sharpening, I say hell no. If it isn't 110% right out of the box, then I don't want it, or sell it to me as a second or possibly used knife. Your opinions and actions may vary; my standards don't.

Show me where I said this because it's now the second time you've accused me of it. Hence my comment about the lack of reading comprehension--which apparently you don't understand the meaning of.

Try to wrap this around your head....I came here for confirmation that it was used, not that sometimes dull blades are shipped out, which is clearly an anomaly. I have never purchased a Spyderco blade before. Not once did I imply that Spyderco sends out dull knives. That's why I asked if this is normal. You're just a rabid fanboy who is overly sensitive.

Yeah, I hear you. I don't really mind that I have to send it out. Under any other circumstance I would. It's a hard knife to get a hold of and I got it for an extremely aggressive price. I've only seen similar prices at 2 other reputable places(104.99). Plus, it honestly looks brand new. That's part of the reason I was so confused when I got it. Everything I've read and heard is that they put out damn sharp knives.

I find most production knives regardless of make or model, come barely sharp or not sharp. I also tend to find very uneven bevels, but spyderco seems to do the best of the bunch at even bevels, yet even they aren't perfect everytime as one would expect from production knives.

These "flaws" in my mind were very frustrating when I was younger, but forced me to learn how to reprofile and sharpen knives, so take advantage of this forced opportunity and learn, as you can't use a knife and have it stay sharp for very long. So you will end up sharpening one way or the other.

All that said, those piling on the op is not right, imho. Win more flies with honey than vinegar routine. I've said my peace....continue on..........

It would be very difficult to say that it may have been used or the edge was not typical of the factory without at least pics.

Damn, I packed it up as soon as I was told to send it in. I'll unpack it and take some photos in a few.

This in your thread titled:

"Just received my PM2 today...It's not sharp....at all. "

And you think I have problems with reading comprehension?

Stop defending yourself and be thankful you stumbled onto a very reputable knife company.

You seem to want to like the knives, so I guess we have something in common.

Let's celebrate that.

Hmm, what's that saying about lightbulbs and brightness?

I didn't say "Just received my PM2 today...It's not sharp...at all. Spyderco sucks!" or "Just received my PM2 today...It's not sharp...at all. Spyderco ships out dull blades and they are a horrible company!!"

What I did was, I stated a fact. I received my PM2 today and it wasn't sharp. I was hoping people with experience could help me out. Next time, I'll shoot you an email and you can inform me on how to go about setting up a thread title that suits your overly sensitive, defensive, fanboy needs.

Any and every knife owner should know how to sharpen his/her own knife. It's like owning a car and know how to drive. If a knife come dull then sharpen it. If it doesn't take and edge then it's a manufacture defect so send it back.
