Someone mentioned Rick getting near Onion prices. This is something that I just can't comprehend. Admittedly, I have never held a Hinderer, though I am sure he makes an excellent folder as evidenced by his following, but Ken worked hard a long time to develop new designs, new/experimental materials use, new machining methods, etc. I feel that Ken truly is an innovative and incredible Designer / Maker, thus i understand the prices his works commands.

Most of the Hinderer's I have seen have looked very similiar, a simple design with good materials. Could they really be smoother than a Bogusz., more artistically original than a Ryan or more curvateous (sp) and well made than an Onion? I just don't understand the reason that Rick's knives command such high prices on the secondary other than lack of supply?

But I am glad that the OP got one and is so thrilled with his purchase. Congratulations.

Nope , didnt get ripped off at all; as of october 27, at 8:51 pm est. Xm-18 mid techs are now at 810.00 plus. The " bay " has had two tonight go for well over 800.00. So to anyone who has said i got ripped off, please try to keep up with current trends.

i keep up with the current trends just fine. and if you don't think you got ripped off, check out this- cross forum linking not allowed.

XM18 Gen3, 3.5 inch Blue G10 scale. Flipper. Bead blast handle stonewash blade. Never carried or sharpened. Has a couple of smudges on the handle. No box. *SOLD* $495.00

is there something im missing? yours is only 3 inch, and this is 3.5 AND its a Gen 3. So, what am I missing?

HA!

I'm amused you found that ad. I picked that one up and couldn't be happier. The extraordinarily kind seller even threw in an orange scale and a Bill's case for it. I thought it was a pretty sweet deal. This is my first custom (ok, ok..."mid-tech") and I could not be happier!

i told him he got ripped off, but no. apparently im not keeping up with trends:rolleyes:

Congrats! The XM-18 is one heck of a knife and Rick's abilities really are reflected in the ergos and build quality. It's also pretty darn sharp, huh? (Gotta love that Duratech 20CV!)

incredible.

i am half-heartedly looking for one but they are too rare right now. its almost like i need a part time job to free-up time to stay on top of this.

from what i can tell, they hit a seller and are gone in a few minutes.

also, that price is too high for me right now. i am looking for something closer to MSRP +/- 10 to 20% perhaps.

950US$? thats two sebenzas for one XM-18. wow.

i may just give up and get a large 21 with some fancy handles instead. i guess thats pretty good. i guess.

congratulations by the way. its a great find. all the best to you.

go and cut something with it. :)

They look to be awsome knives, dont have one though. I know I will never pay the asking price they are going for now though. I would get one for the $385 his site shows, but thats it. Like anything, you might have over paid, but if your happy with spending that on it, then it was worth it. "Something is only worth what your willing to spend on it" Good Luck with the knife and let us know what you think of it after using it for a bit.

I think it's kinda messed up that people are soo greedy they are willing to mark up the price over 100% i could never do that out of pure morality!

Ken's mid-tech were worth the $$ they drew on the secondary , and so are Ricks.

Rick's ability to hold tolerances on anything he makes is incredible.

I just don't understand the reason that Rick's knives command such high prices on the secondary other than lack of supply? .

You do realize Rick was making knives long before the xm-18 and the flame and the firetac models don't you ? If you want to see some amazing work , look at his past art knives !

glad I got mine (gen 3, bead blast blade, tumbled frame, and blue g10) in late june then, heck I payed $535 (on the exchange) at what was then a premium, but I'm just had to have it and couldn't be happier; however there is no way in heck I would be willing to pay $940 for one.

I'd say you got ripped. Specially since I just bought 1 from Rick a month ago for $357.00 But if your happy that is all that matters. I just think the money that people are selling them for is rediculous.

oh you got one from rick last month, ok ill call him tomorrow and ill ask him to send one right out.....lol....got that people.... you can just call old rickster and have him send one right out....

Military, FF's, and LEO's CAN get one directly from him. THOSE are the only orders he is taking.

Yeah? I put my order in around.....(hmmm, let me think now) 3 years ago? Still waiting...

Personally I think those prices are completely nuts.

But if someone is prepared to pay that much, that's their lookout.

I had one in for a little edge work a while back, its a very smooth knife that feels beyond good in the hand but i just can't understand the asking price. I'm not going to say you got ripped off because when you want something bad enough sometimes price doesn't matter, though for me if it does not perform at the level of its price tag then it is a rip off. Time and your uses will be the judge of that though so in the mean time congratulations on your new knife.

I'm confused you say that the trend is for them to go at $850 but you payed $940 and that's for an item that retails at $385 but you didn't get ripped off?

Honestly you aren't looking hard enough, you should be able to find an XM-18 for < $600 very easily on USN. I got a brand new Gen 3 3" flipper about 3 weeks ago for $475 shipped on USN.

Personally I wish Rick would implement some Atwood's Anti Scalper policies but since even some dealers are selling above MSRP I don't think that's likely to happen.
