:DAfter a year of looking, finally i found an xm-18. Its totally worth the money. I got the flipper 3 inch. I couldnt be happier, the fit and finish is awesome. Now a days they are going for around 850.00 on auction sites for a tumbled 3 inch, so i paid a little to much but , its soooo worth it. If you ever have the chance to get one snatch it up, you wont be sorry.:D

That's really great!

What are you going to do with the 2nd one?

Wait a minute, for $940 you did get TWO didn't you?

Oh no......don't tell me......LOL!

As for everone that bought one 3 weeks ago or 12 weeks ago, and you got a good deal then great. But the prices as of oct 27, 8:50 pm were up in the 800.00 plus range. Dont believe me then check the " bay" yourself. As for me paying 940.00 i was tired of waiting, and i make great money; where i can spend 940.00 without blinking, so no i dont feel ripped off, i just want what i want when i want it.

And that is the name of the game.

I don't think you should feel bad about your purchase. If you're happy, then great. You did in fact get an outstanding knife:thumbup:

Well, in less time than it took me to read the three pages of this thread I found a new, non-flipper 3" for 525$.
Then I found a custom-ground 3" for 825$.
Then I got tired of looking for something I am not even interested in.

Anyway, eBay is good but Google is better.:D

Congrats to the OP. I'll tell you what, I have a 3.5" XM-18 and it's my favorite edc. I paid about $500 for mine new from a dealer about 5 months ago and I have not a single regret. I would have paid more!

I bought an Emerson CQC6 for around $1k and the XM flat out BLOWS it away. The 6 isn't even close in build quality, robustness, etc. So in my eyes you got a hell of a deal and you'll be thrilled after you spend some time with the knife. It will never let you down!

:DAs of october 28 11:31 pm another xm-18 with black scale and tumbled finish spotted on the " bay" for a buy it now price of.......950.00...

Fascinating, Ebay is where I go for all my knives, too. :D

Just to put everything in perspective, 99.9% of the non-knife people would think that we all got ripped off and are crazy for paying more than $50 for a pocket knife, let along $300, $400, $950 for a Sebenza, Strider, Hinderer, etc.

I just found one also, and it only cost me my HK P30L. Never shoot it anyway, always have a knife on me though.:D

Hey if the guy is happy for what he paid for it, then leave him alone! Geez.

I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get my 3" xm-18 for retail, but I completely understand paying what you think something is worth to have it NOW. I mean look at people who pay $10-15k more for a new model car just so they can have it then, instead of waiting for a year for prices to come back to normal (Shelby GT500, I'm looking at you).

Anyway, congrats on the great knife! You will be looking for other versions real soon. I know I am!

+1:thumbup:
My xm-18 is my verrrry favorite folder Ive ever owned and if it were gone tomorrow Id hate to think what Id pay for another but I know Id have to have it. I rarely even discuss prices with a non-knife person, just got tired of the  face.

When someone wants something HERE and NOW, he becomes a very motivated buyer, and there is no price too high. Many other people are willing to wait or consider alternatives for a moment. XM-18's show up on forums pretty regularly. Sometimes there is not one available for a month, then 2 or 3 show up, with average price of ~$500-550 and they might wait for the right buyer for couple of days. The price tag OP put on came from the desperate motivated buyer with plenty of cash available to waste. There are not too many of those buyers, and price will go down once those 2 or 3 are satisfied.

I'm happy for the OP, because he got what he wanted, and because apparently financially he is doing very well.

Some things to think about. Ebay is notorious for the outrageous buy it now prices. I've noticed this goes for knives such as Strider, Hinderers, and L.E. productions knives. Another thing to think about. It isn't uncommon for sellers to have other accounts and bid up their own item. Don't be surprised if the high bidder on that 800+ XM18 is actually the seller trying to run up the auction.

Moral of the story, don't go to ebay to find the market value of a knife. Search the forum's classifieds and dealer websites. But then again I guess it doesn't really matter because you can drop $1000 like it's nothing.

yeah, now that they are selling for 810.00 plus i want to see how many are going to be popin up on forums for 550.00 , but im sure ill be hearing from someone on here how they just scored one for 2.00 on a forum somewhere. lol

On what eBay are you logged in? Are these US$ you are talking about?
Do a search on eBay US for Hinderer XM-18, then choose the option "Completed Listings".
Then you will see that not one single Hinderer XM-18 sold for more than 810$ in the past 2 weeks, the majority selling around 600-700$, with one NIB selling for 540$.
Now if you still want to bite my head off for telling you that you way overpaid your knife, feel free to do so...

Folks, the guy got the knife he wanted and knows he paid a higher-than-normal price for it (see the original post), although how much higher seems debatable. Would I pay that much for it? No. But he's obviously all right with that price and can afford it. I think many of us have paid full retail or higher for that "just got to have it" item we've been lusting for. Let's cut the guy some slack and just be happy for him that got that one special knife.

I think what's throwing some people off is that the OP titled his thread with "scored" an XM-18. Not sure about most others, but when I see scored, I'm thinking you were able to snag a scarce knife at a good price. If you pay a premium and then some, the term "score" seems misplaced. I can list a WTB ad stating I want a Lochsa and I'm willing to pay $5,000 for it, chances are good I'll get one, but I'm not sure if most people would consider that much of a score on the open market. If a knife is listed on an auction site and sitting out there asking a premium, it's more likely to be a "score" for someone with deeper pockets.

That said, I think it's great that you found the knife that you've wanted for so long and you are happy with your purchase. FWIW, I did pay a premium for a Lochsa (nowhere near $5K), and while I feel I may have overpaid a little, I'm happy with it, and really that's all that matters. Enjoy your XM-18, it's a great knife!
