They probably aren't any greater than any other $400 folder out there, just harder to get. People then pay more to have the same thing, I'm really not sure where the extra value manifests in the mind of the buyer. $800+ for a semi-production knife with no precious metals or exotic natural materials seems crazy to me.

He got a knife that he really wanted, and is happy. That is all that should matter.

No he didn't. Please reread the past few pages where he is outed as being a eBay seller trying to bring attention to his auction and say they're going for more than they are. He would not post the ended auction where he claimed to have bought the 940.00 xm and eBay has no record of it in their ended auctions.

Let's try to leave Gary Moore out of this, he doesn't deserve to be guilty by association, unless we know he's directly involved, let's not jump to conclusions.

I know Gary Moore and know he would not do this, it's not Gary!

OD-SnG deal spotted on a 3 1/2 XM-18... He wanted a 3 inch XM, so maybe that's why he did not get it!

I do have to say, people with money do not talk about how much money they have or post thread after thread asking what other people think of this knife vs that knife... they just buy them ;)

If you notice a lot of OD's posts, he is not buying them to find out for himself... He talks a few times of how much money he has... But does not support this site! He is lying about paying that much on the bay... unless he can post a link to the closed sale he is to be seen as a spamster IMHO!

All that money you would think he could throw a few bucks to this site, and buy a camera to post a few pix to brag... Maybe post a Rolex with his new toy on top of his G-Wagon.... LOL

Isn't the Internet fun? You can be anyone you want to be :D

One has to wonder...............or maybe one dosn't have to wonder at all

I forgot to give my opinion, Ive had a few sng , nice knives but rather blocky and heavy in pocket, ive had a prototype umnumzaan " yes the 1600.00 one" it was just ok, a little to big for edc, and i grew bored with yet another grey handled knife. " After collecting knives by far i would have to say my grail would be a 3 inch flipper xm-18. My friend has one and the fit and finish is 100% perfect, its light, rides great in the pocket, and fits your hand like a dream, im my opinion after years of collecting ive never seen a more perfect edc than a 3 inch flipper xm-18. Its hard use like a strider , with all the fit and finish of a chris reeve knife. Now to ever find one, thats a whole other storie. The waiting list is huge ,if you can even get on one anymore.

I used to have the umnum proto, edc for a week and sold it off for 650.00. I found that it was to big for me to edc it. That being said the only way i found it at all comfertable to carry was to be using the clip all the time, if i didnt clip it to my jeans it would turn sideways in my pocket. The fit and finish was very nice, but just to big for me.

congratulations! that's a great folder. The Best folder I think. I bought mine about two years ago from a Japanese dealer for 560. It's the second generation with Hinderer's name on the blade. I didn't know that price went so high like 800? 900? wow. I'm a very lucky man.

It didn't. Read the thread.;)

sorry I wasn't reading all the threads. Thank you for reminding me. Now I know that someone is trying to fool people with the abnormal price. A third generation MX-18 which is not ground by Rick himself don't worth 800 I'm sure. I hope nobody waste their money for that knife. I know it's hard but all they need is a little more patience.

All that money and he cannot write properly...
Now I would like to see pictures of that 1600$ 'Zaan that he sold for 650$.

you are lucky because you bought it before Rick stopped making full customs for every order. in fact, right after he switched to the machine ground, the ones "in the know" and the dealers sold a couple for $1200, before it finally stabilised to south of $1000. yours is worth $800-900, more if the buyer is in need of an urgent fix.

as for the present gen 3 semi-customs/mid-tech/machine ground (whatever the appropriate nomenclature), $600 is about what I see it going for, sometimes a little less - depends on the size, scale, flipper, non-flipper and whatever the individual buyer fancies and depending on the seller also.

altho $940 is a tad high for the gen 3 machine ground, if the buyer is satisfied, it's good. it's not like the gen 3s are available when you snap your fingers, you either need to be patient and wait your turn at the dealers or watch the forums like a hawk.

congrats on your first XM18 - I have handled the gen 3 machine ground, it is one heckuva solid little bugger. In fact it's solid like a tank.
