Just scored an XM-18 for 940.00

I bought a XM-18 3.5" NIB flipper last night on another forum for $475. Camo scale. Maybe it was just right place and right time but for $940 I would have gone for any number of customs.

A few years ago when Ken Onion released his forum knife (200 pcs IIRC) someone sold one on the Bay for $1200 while Ken still had knives available for $500. There is a sucker born every day, and Ebay helps facilitate it.

all im saying is the prices on ebay are up over 810.00 if people are willing to give them away for 550.00 then so be it. Im a rich guy who spent 940.00 and im glad i did. So end of story, its not some big hoax; just rich people paying what ever it takes to avoid the wait. By all means if anyone wants to sell them for 550.00 i'll buy them all day long and turn right around and sell them on ebay for over 800.00.

Well since you didn't post the auction where you claim to have bought a XM18 for $940.00 it really looks like you a seller trying to create the illusion that Gen3 XM18s go for that kind of money so a potential eBayer will fall for it.

Ok, it looks like the point of this thread was to attempt to drive up the price of the XM-18 so that 'flippers' could make an even greater profit. This kind of hype is really common in the stock market, but I guess we're now seeing it here as well.

What was this about?

OP found XM from the dealer, then decided to get one from ebay?

He didn't get one from eBay. The ended auctions show no Hinderers sold for anywhere close to that price within the past two weeks. It's a little weird, although I applaud the sleuthing of some of the members here.

From post #69:
I just looked at ended auctions and I found them selling between $540 and $810--with all of them being Gen 3 mid-tech versions. There is also one right now that is up to $810 and it is also a Gen 3 mid-tech.

I'm wondering what the connection to Moore Cutlery is because he was on full blast saying Moore Cutlery is great, trustworthy etc and they had a XM18 available in his other thread he started. It was in similar fashion as he was toughting his XM18 the way he was praising Moore Cutlery.

I doubt Gary Moore has anything to do with this, and if the thread you are referring to is the same one posted by effer, there is only one post by the OP and then Esav slammed him with an infraction for deal-spotting.

Strangely enough the top xm-18 on the bay is up to 855 but whats even weirder is that there are 6 of them for sale now. I check the listing for "hinderer" almost daily for the past 6 months and I've never seen more than 3 in the lineup. Alot of the time there wont be one on there for a week or more. Quite a coincidence.

I'm saying he's in that thread talking about how trustworthy Gary is and how he's dealt with him a lot. If he's just a guy that plans on selling his stuff down the road on eBay why is he going to do that? It may be a coinceidence but it seems strange to me. I'm not saying Gary is involved or has any knowledge in any way shape or form. Don't get me wrong.

When someone misleads us for the purpose of making money the things he says should be looked in to and scrutinized a little more closely IMO.

I agree , Gary is not that kind of guy at all.

There was another dealer just yesterday posting on diff forums that he had 6 or 8 in stock though.

You do realize Rick was making knives long before the xm-18 and the flame and the firetac models don't you ? If you want to see some amazing work , look at his past art knives !
Rick Hinderer made some beautiful ,"art" knives before he concentrated on tactical folders. He kinda reminds me of what Daryl Ralph did- making high end art knives then moving to tactical. I have 2 folders by Rick and the tolerences are up there with the best. In the past before the XM-18 his Firetac and other models were easy to get and he prices were great. His prices still are excellent but their not readly available.
Just to put everything in perspective, 99.9% of the non-knife people would think that we all got ripped off and are crazy for paying more than $50 for a pocket knife, let along $300, $400, $950 for a Sebenza, Strider, Hinderer, etc.
Adamar- I could'nt of said it better.

Yes, but three of those are customs from the same Japanese seller.
