K20 | Picture Gallery

Are there any pics posted with the following scale options:

-Vintage International Paper Micarta
-Vintage International Paper Micarta (crunchy)

If no K20s, then any other CPK pics with these scale options would be quite helpful. Thanks all!

Here’s my Sig SDFK with the crunchy VIPM. The “crunchy” means that it’s cut from the outside of the sheet so a portion of the scale will have the darker shade that was exposed to air, light, moisture, etc.

If you get the VIPM non crunchy, the whole scale will be the lighter color. With that said, over time if the knife is a user, the whole scale will turn that dark color eventually either way you go.

For comparison, the FK2 has ECAM and the color of the ECAM and crunchy layer of the VIPM is pretty close.

Its definitely sweet esp with pretty fasteners. I took pics and tried to post but the system said FU Eric sorry not sorry
I had double black on a couple others. No doubt it’s sweet. I’m talking about the double black/red that I’ve seen just recently. Thicker black/red combo.

I’ll go find a pic…

OK, found good pics of double red/double black. I think this could look pretty sick in the larger format handles of this sword! (Pics off of the CPK pics thread. Sorry, I forgot already whose these are.)

What is ecam? What does that stand for

Edge Cut Antique Micarta (it’s the old, dense, and sought after Westinghouse kind). The “vintage” International Paper Micarta is similar but it’s manufactured more recently and quantities seem to be easier to obtain.

fullswing fullswing , no problem getting the pic up! You won’t be disappointed if you get a set of the VIPM, it looks really nice in person. Functionally I can’t see a difference between them , ECAM and the Burlap, which also looks really damn good in person lol. I think the main difference would be going with buffed or unbuffed, unbuffed having a grippier feel.

Not a sanctioned and rule enforced competition but the official CPK YouTube channel has a video testing the K18. Ben also has 3 more K18 videos on his Instagram page.
Thanks.🙂 I’ve seen the videos.

What I (and all the CPK’ers who watched Knife or Death) would LOVE to see, is Bennie competing in something like that, with the K18 (that was literally designed and made to obliterate the competition in that show).

Functionally there is no difference between ECAM and Natural Burlap, right? From what I have read it seems almost entirely cosmetic.

Functionally the difference in use is not going to be very significant.

However, the edge cut antique micarta is stronger and more durable because it is made of a material and in a process that produced superior textile saturation and a stronger probably virgin resin phenolic without filler. This is characterized by its translucency, and very apparent when machining it due to the higher cutting forces, you can hear the inverter drive and you can see the difference on the load meter when decking it. It's almost as hard as aluminum when machining it. The burlap is not like this.

Looks like the VIPM is also edge-cut? Or at least doesn't have the tree ring like layer banding that the other micarta does.

Look at the ECAM and you can see the fibers look as if they’re swimming, that’s the edge cutting effect. The VIPM scales have a weave that’s similar regular canvas micarta. My pic also makes them look more yellow than they are, they’re a more subdued color like corn on the cob. I think I even referenced them as being corn cob micarta in a post after getting them in hand lol.

My CPK knives are all boxed up but I can get to them and post a better pic in a day or so of the VIPM.
