KA-BAR Tech Talk

What is the chance of ever seeing a BK-5 style blade with a stacked leather handle? I can't imagine a more perfect fit.

I don't know man; the BK5 is pretty awesome how it sits. You could always get some custom micarta or other scales made for it.

Question for Toooj;
How awesome is your job? I mean you get to play with knives all day and surf the forums too. I want a job like that

I bet Toooj actually spends most of his day trying to deal with random factory f#$% ups of entire shipments of knives and sheaths all the while OKB stands over his shoulder berating him to find a way to make the knives cost less to manufacture :P

close to zero? it's not a stick tank, nor a full tang, so you can't just grind it into a stick, then stack.

Sounds like Toooj needs to design a stick tang knife with an 8in upswept blade.:D
Problem solved.

Orangish Ducktape: How does a parent choose one child over another? I like them all. I also like knives from other companies. Heck, I like knives.

Shoot; I'm thinking of some S30V neckers or eskabars now. Maybe even the remora???

All,

My job is like any other. Alot of cool stuff mixed with some bad. But I'm in an industry that I was made to be in.
However, here is a word of warning; Making your avocation your vocation is not necessarily a good thing.
BRL has it correct on many accounts....perceptive guy that BRL.
There is an old Chinese saying: "Be careful about what you ask for because it may come true." I look back on my life and laugh at the brilliance of that sage advice.

Sounds about right...

So I guess my idea of Toooj designing a BK-5 type blade with a stick tang doesn't appeal to him. Oh well, back to the drawing board.:(
:D

Thanks Toooj.

My very good buddy Dan gave me this last friday. He said his uncle who died a few years back from complications of a grenade injury and agent orange carried it in vietnam. It looked Ka Bar but was pretty rusty and I couldn't read anything on it.

Was hoping for approximate date of manufacture? And any other good info on it, If indeed it's a KaBar.

Oregon Fal'er,

The knife you have is a WWII Vintage Navy Mark I made by Pal Cutlery. Before it was a Mark I it was an RH-35.
Before it became Pal Cutlery. It was Remington (as in Remington Firearms). RH-35 stands for Remington Hunter Model 35.
Not a Ka-Bar but still a great old knife by a very good cutlery company.
Hope this helps.
