Kami Medical Emergency Fund

It's a great idea Steve:thumbup: and I'd be glad to throw in. Put me down for two. And thanks for reminding me to keep thinking of others.

ok guys. that sheath looks just exactly like the one on my CS LTC. if so, it will fit the following with snap alteration:

16.5 CAK
16.5 WW II
and my 12.5 grs/bc in a pinch, but it's not ideal.

we can speculate any 15-17" ak or WW II type blade should fit OK. If an M43 and GRS/BC fits, that will cover a vast array of what folks have/buy. i've got an M43 on special order and will check it also as soon as it gets here. it's a pretty tough sheath. Mine has seen over a decade of rough use

Hung, your H'mong knife is beautiful. It is wonderful to give and help. I'm glad to be a part of this family.

Auntie Yangdu, please pass on to the Kamis and all employees how much we appreciate and respect them. I can barely make a sandwhich with my hands, but they create beautiful tools which will last generations in the course of thier normal day. Thanks and i hope every one has a great day.

Great idea Steve. And I really like the look and comparable slimness of the sheath. I'll take two.

HighDesertWalker, 50 at 50 in 16 hours is amazing. I trail jog for fun and doing a quarter of that distance kicks my arse. Given the typical southwest hills you should maybe change your moniker to 'HighDesertRunner'.

i just re-read the original post and saw that Steve confirmed bonecutter fit. i'm also positive this is the old CS LTC sheath. so, CAK, AK, WW II and bonecutter all fit at around 16.5". my M43 hasn't arrived yet, so i cant evaluate the shape of that model. plus mine was ordered at 18-19", which could be too long. all of the "skinnies" (siru, gelbu, and such) should not have a problem either. if any one has others to compare the size and shape to our known fitment (not sure if this is a real word or not) samples, we should be able to confirm many models will fit. Steve, that was a good find and great idea. that 50 should be spoken for before Auntie even gets them. any one wanting to make a sheath can also use it as a guide. that's what i did, for the most part.

Outstanding Idea!

Put me down for one.

May be Auntie should confirm which models have a decent fit in to the sheath...just to avoid confusion.
I mostly have blades in the 16"-18" range so some reassurance would be nice.

Thanks for all the replies, and thanks to jdk1 for the info on sheath fit.

The 50 sheaths were ordered over a week ago and were on their way to me before I made the initial post (I called to verify this). Shipping is slower than expected (I thought I'd have them by Friday at the latest, modify them over the weekend, then ship them to Yangdu today, Monday). Tracking now says they will arrive today, so I will modify them all in time to ship to Yangdu tomorrow (Tuesday).

My tally shows 25-28 sheaths already "spoken for" (up to 32 sheaths if they fit 18" khukuris). I will send Yangdu the tally of names, actually forum IDs, of people who said they want the sheaths.

I'm thinking that sending Yangdu the money would be the best way for her to connect real names to sheath purchases. She could set them aside, with name attached, as already paid and awaiting shipment, either ASAP or with the next knife purchase. Yangdu already received payment for at least 10 sheaths.

There are about 20 sheaths still available, so let Yangdu know if you want one.

I will ask her to check the sheath fit with various sizes from her inventory, and maybe post a photo.

I sent my money to Yangdu already, my stuff is just waiting on the sheath to show for it all to ship.
I am in no hurry, was just stating the facts here so you knew. :)

I modified the 50 sheaths and got them out on FedEx this evening (Tues). They supposedly will arrive at HI on Thursday.

So far, 26-29 sheaths are "spoken for", up to 35 if they fit the 18 inchers. I will send Auntie Yangdu a list of the forum users who are interested, and ask her to check out the fit with various size khukuris.

I'm thinking that this will work similar to the DOTD, where it's a "done deal" when payment is sent to Yangdu, so I suggest that people make payment to Yangdu even if they want her to set aside the sheaths for them until they have another khukuri being shipped to them. If you get the sheaths shipped separately, there will probably be a few dollars of postage added to the cost (Yangdu will know these details).

Anyone else who wants to get one of these sheaths (with the full purchase price going to help the Kamis), please contact Yangdu directly.

Thanks, it's been fun. :)

Steve's Sheaths had arrived here this afternoon.
They are fine looking sheaths. Thank you Steve

Definitely up for one, maybe two. Dunno why I didn't post beforehand...

Thank you for doing this Steve.

WOO HOO! Thanks Steve, they look Great! This means I should be getting a box soon too... :)

What a great opportunity for some good karma. (And also an opportunity for a great sheath that looks like it will fit well in a traveling bag or backpack!)

Many of us have knives by Bura. I recently inquired after his health. There is a language barrier that sometimes impedes understanding, but my understanding is that he is not currently working, and that he has problems with both walking and seeing. These may be age related. He is just one kami, but one that many of us feel close to due to our experiences with his workmanship. There are many others ...

Steve Tall,

For some reason I can't PM you. Please drop me an e-mail.

Thanks,

don't you have to be a paying member to get & send PM's?

In any case, I am really anxiously awaiting my sheath now. I have gone through my stuff for all possible candidates and found three probables. Should they all fit, I am curious if there are any more of these available since I only asked for one this time to see what would fit of mine first.

Yangdu likes these sheaths and was interested in getting more, so I am going to modify and donate a bunch more for her to sell (with the full $20 per sheath still going to the Kami Medical Emergency Fund). So, keep those sheath orders coming in to Yangdu.
