Karambits?

Is there some miscommunication going on? At what point did I ever say "At least once a week I go around at nighttime looking for unsuspecting people to pull my knife on so I can get the ladies.Oh boy do I crave fighting, it makes me look so cool!"
Maybe I'm just getting trolled out of my mind, maybe my words aren't precise enough, maybe both?
I went back to my OP and nothing in that should be ego boosting. Other posts are in response to questions and further inquisition that have nothing to do with the OP.
So I guess touche? I got trolled well?

I am suprised that there was no mention of the Cold Steel tiger karambit. I have a few single purpose (defense) knives. One is a push knife and the other a small Kabar TDI. On the rare occasion that I carry them (once each) I make sure that I have my concealed carry permit. Using a karambit in a self-defense scenario would be lot tougher to explain in court, than a Para 2 or a Native.
When you have knocked someone senseless, in most cases, they no longer represent a deadly threat to your life. Brandishing is typically an automatic jail sentence in most or all states. If I lived in a low-high crime neighborhood, I would not be walking home by myself late at night. I would grab a taxi, or not eat out late at night. Lawyers are much more expensive than taxi's.
Lastly, most of us in the forums love our knives/machetes/swords/daggers/karambits, etc. When someone describes behaviors that could cause laws to be created that threaten our ownership rights, we tend to get irritated.

Thanks mwhich50, I could see what I may have done to get such responses. If there is a next time something like this erupts, I'll remember to be exact than lackadaisical because it seems the details matter that much. I was beginning to think that they were discouraging carry for possible self-defense rather than incomprehensible flaming for situations I stated in a light fashion.

Nobody has flamed you yet. We're just trying to keep you alive beyond age 25.

to heck with another knife, invest in some good running shoes. your neighborhood sounds dangerous

I consider making judgement calls on people based off a couple posts that I thought carried no intent to be judged on, flaming. Only because I didn't expect this little thread to escalate arbitrarily and improperly.

More like a scare tactic than actual application. If hand to hand gets a little out of control, waving out an exotic looking blade helps to quell the situation nicely.

Less a scare tactic as a foolproof method for getting shot. Is this guy for real?

You continue to act as if nothing you wrote could have lead to this, and yet it did.

I think you have managed to "draw fire" with you words in this thread. I respectfully suggest you augment your training to include development of verbal skills to help you avoid conflicts (here and in you neighborhood).

Bransihing weapons and credentials is only a display of false bravado unless you back it up. If you can back it up, you need no help selecting a knife while yours is being pimped.

Sigh, yes it works against already scared / nervous / desperate folk in the college area trying to scavenge off who they think are unsuspecting college students that will just do what they say because they said it "scarily". I get it, reality is that some might be carrying guns. If they had a gun, wouldn't that be the first thing they would threaten me with? Not a fight first then reveal they have a sidearm? Even if they did that, you don't think I would notice the sidearm? At what point in this thread did I discuss retaliating against armed assailants? Let alone there being any armed assailants in the area?
Reality is, no one here has any information regarding where, when, why, how, what, etc.
As far as the information in the thread holds, I'm looking for another karambit to carry / add to my collection and, because of further inquiry, I've been in a scuffle twice in the past year where I have brandished my knife in that manner also in which the assailants ran because they weren't expecting that. Which I also posted because I apparently have to give a detailed description of a time in which it has happened.
(I guess I also have to note that I do have the intelligence to know when to wave it)
Any more details that are needed / you have questions about please keep it out of this thread, pm me or something if you truly want to know, again, it's not the purpose of this thread.

I just want to know of other karambits because I like them.
Desperina, Weiland, etc. Thanks for those that brought those to light.

I see how my words " ' drew fire' ". I conceited that already thanks to mwhich50.
I made light of what could be a heavy situation because I did not think a "I'm looking for a knife because I like it's style" thread could turn into something like a background check to make sure I know what I'm doing.
False bravado or not, however, I do not see how backing it up has to do with me looking to the Bladeforums for help in finding a quality producer of knives that I do not know about.
Whether or not I can back it up in a real life situation, which, again and again, I keep saying has happened, believe it or not because it has nothing to do with this thread,
has nothing to do with the void of intelligence I have, and was looking to fill via this thread, on knife makers.

As an observer of this thread, I thought I might ask you what your training was ? :)

Doug

You would not notice a sidearm: it's called conceal carry. You don't notice it. That's the point! And if you pull a knife on someone with a CCW it may be the last thing you ever do.

I don't want to get involved in this thread. Good luck and good night.

Man, I feel sorry for you curtain call.

But do you really need a karambit? I get that the wave is a great tool in a kinda situation that you have stated but what about a super commander? It has the wave and is quite big. It could serve your purpose and be a good EDC as well!

Stay safe, and good luck on your choice of a knife! :)

Look, you're young, dumb and full of seeds.

Is that how that saying goes? I always thought it was....:D

But the man who walks away from a fight, or better yet, sees it coming and avoids it in the first place, is almost always the better man. You might be the fastest gun in town, but there's always somebody who's faster.

Quoted for the truth:thumbup:

EDIT: Any folding K-bit with an opening hole + a zip tie = poor man's wave... just an FYI.

"I find having a 1-handed knife very useful with all the fix-it and labor work I do. It was also something of a comfort that if I were ever attacked, I would at least have the ability to be armed for self-defense.

However, after thinking about it for a while, a knife is a lethal weapon, and I can't ever imagine anyone trying to kill me or even cut me. If I get mugged, it will be by someone with a gun. Not only that, but if I'm ever attacked by someone who has a knife, they would have to be pretty stupid to give me enough warning time that I could pull out my blade. I've heard from many many sources that in street situations, you simply don't have the time to arm yourself, even if you've practiced drawing your knife over and over. Furthermore, I have no idea how to knife fight, so if the other guy had a knife too, I'm pretty much a dead man.

What I realized is that if I ever am attacked, my knife won't come in handy, because I won't be able to and won't want to use it.

If you are concerned about your safety, your best bet is to take self defense. By learning how to protect yourself from attackers who could have any number of weapons, you will learn to prevent yourself from injury while disabling the attacker quickly and non-lethally. Generally, baddies on the street won't be karate masters, so a few simple techniques can really help you feel more confident in a situation where someone is being aggressive. Look for a school that specializes in self defense, or a martial arts school that advertises itself as teaching practical methods."

For the benefit of the bystanders, at least, let me provide a few cliches:

The first rule of self-defense is, don't go there.
The second rule is, if you find yourself there, leave.
The third rule is, if they won't let you leave, fight your way out.

More important: training trumps technology.
Much more important: escalation never ends.

The original poster did legitimately ask for recommendations on a knife. But a topic like this always goes toward Practical Tactical. Let's see if we can get back to a replaceent karambit for him. And seriously, no trolling.

I've been jumped three times in college towns. All three times were the result of overconfidence in my ability and not having the wisdom to stay away from dangerous areas while traveling alone on foot. The first time, I aimed for the jewels, tossed a punch, and then hightailed it to the nearest populated area. The second time, I saw it coming and hightailed it to the nearest populated area. The third time, I was inebriated, fought back and was barely able to drag myself home. All three times I had a knife on me (once a very large one) and there was NEVER a good time to take it out. Not before, not during, and not after the incident. At no point was it my absolute LAST RESORT and even when I was drunk and getting the crap beaten out of me, the possibility of jail time was more than enough for me to leave it concealed. In fact, on the walk home, I kept expecting a cop to spot the bloody, stumbling man on the sidewalk at 3AM and start asking questions.

My best advice for you, as someone who has 'been there', is to grow up and start traveling smarter and not tougher or you'll end up becoming a story on the 10 o'clock news.

FWIW, I have not come across a folding karambit that I'd buy besides the Emerson. The Fox looks nice enough but I haven't yet been able to justify the need for one.
