Whilst I understand and empathise with the reaction from victims of crime, I think this reaction is a bit over the top.

Pop star Katy Perry has sparked outrage in Britain for posing with a flick-knife, as another of the nation's teenagers was stabbed to death in a gang-related incident.

The 23-year-old "I Kissed A Girl" singer has been widely condemned for the picture, which shows Perry placing the knife directly under her eye in a deliberate publicity attempt to make her look "edgy", British newspapers report.

But the father of 10-year-old Damilola, who was stabbed to death in 2000, lashed out at Perry over the depiction.

"She must be out her mind to pose for a picture like this," Richard Taylor was quoted as saying in The Sun.

"There is nothing glamorous about knives — they wreck families. Any youngsters seeing her will think it's OK to carry a blade." According to the newspaper, an insider at Perry's shoot said "the knife picture was done to give Katy more of a sexy, harder edge".

The uproar came as 16-year-old army cadet Joey Lappin was fatally wounded with a knife on a street in Liverpool, in the country's north.

Lappin and two of his friends had earlier fled into a park after being confronted by a gang of 15 people.

But they were chased and attacked by the gang, who killed Lappin and left the other two boys with serious injuries.

"[Lappin] was stabbed and came back in with blood all over him," a witness said to the newspaper.

"He was very pale and was screaming, 'I can’t breathe' — it was horrible."

Lappin became the 60th British teenager this year to die as a result of street crime, with much of the violence involving knives.

Katy Perry is telling British youngsters that with so much street crime and defenseless people getting killed, it's time to arm themselves, since no one else seems to be able to protect them.

Oh, yeah. Katy Perry is hot.

Look, I like knives, but that is exactly the wrong message to give to those impressionable youngsters. Problem is that because these immature people carry a knife, they are much more likely to use it in a heated argument.
And let's show some heart for the father: just try to imagine your 10 year old being stabbed to death.

.
And let's show some heart for the father: just try to imagine your 10 year old being stabbed to death.

Like I said, I fully empathise with the father, being one myself. But is the envisaged purpose of a knife so far removed from the truth that all it is percieved to be, is a weapon?
It appears to me, that that's what knives have become...weapons, not tools.

Is there any hope for lawful owners of knives in the UK? keeping in mind they DO NOT have a constitution like America, they are a Monarchy, with a 4 yearly cycle of a Prime minister. So responses like 'vote for your rights' dont cut it, I can guarantee there's no one of influence lobbying for the introduction of knife rights, especially with the amount of stabbings going on.

Dagon. Katy Perry is telling people to buy her music. It's me telling Brit kids to knife up.

You don't agree, that's OK, too. But what is painfully, obviously, truly irresponsible is the weakness pervading the UK, which is the driving force behind the crime they refuse to confront.

"If you make a face like a doormat, people will walk on you."

Esav is right, everyone has a basic human right to defend themselves through any means necessary. Some immature punk wouldn't be so fast to knife someone if there was a high likelyhood of violent and immediate retaliation. In a perfect world that wouldn't be the case but reality is what it is. Disarming law abiding citizens is a 1 way ticket down the drain, and it only further empowers the criminals.

Maybe we should just outlaw metal. That will cover knives, guns, cars, scissor, screw drivers, files, hatchets, axes, wrenches etc.

Wood should be next. Bats, sticks, batons, clubs.

Rocks....that is going to be a tough one

It's funny to me that she did a huge hit about a lesbo fling, and what do the Brit parents flip out over? Her posing w/ a knife for a picture. I'm not saying that 'kissed a girl' bugs me, but it's just strange to me what today's parents apparently worry about. The song would have been banned when I was a kid, but they played it all summer on the local FM high school station.

No matter what the times are, I guess it's just human nature to point fingers and moralize.

Three teenagers are chased by a mob of 15 ruffians, one of them is killed, and KNIVES are at fault. :jerkit: More specifically, a photo of a pop singer with a knife is the scapegoat? What pathetic helpless buffoons.

The weakness pervading the UK is stomach-turning.

Correct, Phil. I say that as an Englishman.
This is an absolutely cringe worth reaction, which so many have been spoon-fed into making by the media.

When I was in places like NYC and L.A during the 90's when gun-crime was at a terrible level, I did not see anyone having a fit at the sight of a shooter on movie or music advertising. People these days are too cushioned and coddled.

If you're really concerned about being stabbed to death then don't start a pointless anti campaign... Take instruction, and purchasing some kind of firearm or tazer. How the Hell is ineffective disarmament campaigns going to help anybody when someone draws a 6" inch kitchen knife, and approaches them with the intent to do harm, after trading an insult - It's that simple getting yourself badly hurt or killed here today.

Nobody tells me it's better without. They always state here that if one was to be attacked by someone armed with a knife, then you are in far greater risk of injury drawing your own, and defending yourself?. So the Police responding armed to a man rampaging with a sword is wrong?, what utter nonsense.

Yes, the above is preached daily to children in Schools. Sit back, enjoy the ride, body-bags are on the Government...

Yep from outside it seems like UK knife rights are flowing down the drain. The human tendency to illogically place blame on inanimate objects is sickening. The knife did not magically fly out and stab someone, the gun did not magically pull its own trigger and shoot that guy in the head. The fact of the matter is that there is always a person directly controlling what happens with the gun or knife. If someone kills someone, it is clear that they have no problems with breaking the law, but making another law for them to disobey is somehow going to stop them. It might just be me, but I don't see any logic in this mindset at all. If that person had a rock or other weapon would they have the same homicidal intention? They most likely would. The simple fact of the matter is that banning weapons will only disarm those people who are most in need of arms, the victims of violent crime.

Now in something like lets say a propane tank exploding randomly, with no direct human cause and/or manufacturing defect, I would be much more understanding of banning said failed propane tank.

Oh and on a less serious note
Katy Perry is hot.

Simply another case of blaming the inanimate object rather the blaming the person wielding it. Sooner or later they will run out of object to blame after they have banned them all. I hear marshmallows will be targeted soon as marshmallow attacks are on the rise.

The human tendency to illogically place blame on inanimate objects is sickening.

It has nothing to do with human nature. it is the absence of common sense and basic survival instinct. It is a philosophical cult of stupidity helped along by active governmental brainwashing campaigns. See also my sig line.

Pathetic , First their guns, now their knives, soon their arms and legs, again pathetic , and yes Kate Perry is hot!

Rat - your post is 100% correct, it is nothing more than a collective mindset designed by and fed to, and ingested by the Sheeple. That will ultimately lead to their demise….
