Just like a heavyweight boxer Primble, you just keep throwin' punches. Have I told you I like your KK scout? :D Sweet looking DE, and great photos, as always.

Very nice examples Brad and Rob and Charlie of course.
I should take photos of my latest KK and post them. soon.

Mike

Brad - those are two pristine examples which look fantastic together !!!:thumbup:

I tend to think of the Keen Kutter and Diamond Edge brands as being similar to John Primble brand with Belknap Hardware.

I really appreciate those older hardware companies which special ordered knives. I think their standards were very high - they wanted a GREAT knife to represent their name.

You can't do fine pictures without fine knives!! At least not for this crowd!!
Beautiful, Rob, pics and subjects!!

Thank you for the comments Brad, Bob, Mike, and Charlie - always appreciated !:)

Charlie - those Keen Kutter examples you posted on the previous page are marvelous - they look factory fresh !:thumbup:

Some of them are Factory Fresh, Rob. Several years ago, A.G.Russell sold a collection of new-old knives from an excellent collection. It caused quite a ruckus for a week or two!! I scored several, missed some good ones too!

Here are a couple of Keen Kutter folders I acquired at the OKCA show lat week. They are both later production and in very nice unsharpened condition. The first is an EE junior Cattle Knife and 3 & 3/8 inches closed. The smaller one is a serpentine jack with saber ground primary blade. It is 2 & 7/8 inches long. Lloyd

Both great knives in beautiful condition, Lloyd!:thumbsup: That translucent yellow celluloid is a very attractive handle material.

image2.jpeg Well I scored my very first Keen Kutter this week. I've seen a few of these Barlows before but they were usually done in wood. This guy's got beautiful sawcut black bone handles. I was told it date's between 1939-1942. If anyone could confirm if that's right I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Trevor

I hate to revive a dead thread, but so much info here is relevant I just can't help but post my most recent shapeleigh acquisition. It was marketed as a "Cigar stockman" and has a name etched into the celluloid handle, J. Collison I believe it says, but it's well worn. The main clip blade and the punch have great half stop and snap on opening and closing. The secondary blade has definitely seen some use, sharpening and the snap is weaker, but still nice. The secondary blade is still very sharp and rust free as well! The punch is interesting, and I figure could maybe help narrow down the date to more than just pre 1960, which is where I am now. It is stamped "Spiral punch". It is obviously spiraled on the outside, not sure of the use? Maybe that's why this was called a "Cigar stockman"? Maybe that was just a name made up to describe the knife by the previous owner? I'd love to narrow down the date on this one. I picked it up at a decent price. I was born in St Louis and grew up with these brands, though they are out of business, they were still known, talked about and used VERY often. Anything marked st Louis holds a special place in my heart, and EC SIMMONS, Shapeleighs, Diamond Edge and Keen Kutter are my faves! This piece is in my personal collection, atleast until i have all the info i can find! Any info is appreciated, if nothing else, I hope the vid will be enjoyed! I still can't post a pic to this site, I've tried all the suggestions... I'm just not smart enough I guess lol! Hopefully the video works!

That is a Camillus Built Knife, Camillus are the only ones with that Spiral punch and Tang Stamp on the Punch.:)
That Knife I would call a Cattle Knife, Equal Ender and I am guessing Cigar Stockman describes it as well.

Thanks ! I'm happy to know this is a Camillus made knife as I am very fond of those as well! I knew somebody with more specific knowledge would be able to tell me something! Gives me some more research to do as well! Any opinion on the age... more specific than my current "Pre 1960"? I personally thought cattle knife too, I just thought this was a "city-fied" version lol! I agree, Cigar stickman is a reasonable description in my opinion... just one I hadn't heard before lol. Thanks again for the Camillus lead and I look forward to any more replies!
