Keep it Alive in 2025

Late on this post apologies for that . Is there a reason why so many didn’t get sold ? Was the amount based on people saying they would have one , and then pulled out ? I did buy one , it’s probably my least favourite Blade forums knife , and I do have the full set from the very first to present day. I would always be interested in buying one , as it would keep the set complete . A few have made reference to the bland colour of the 2025 knife , that I agree on , and would love to dye it darker. Possibly a brown shade . If anyone has any knowledge on how to do this please contact me , it would be very much appreciated..
Also big shout out to Spark for all the hard work he’s put in over the years , feeding our addiction .

No, we filled the preorders but had no input on quantity, pattern, color, etc. Then we waited after paying 100% of the preorder price. I can’t see how any of this is the communities fault. The current economy did not help the situation either.

Strictly unofficial speculation, there has been no authoritative explanation that I've found...

There was a brief period when the knife was announced, and the night the sale actually went active the price was announced, but the scale material and the shield weren't firmly committed. There was confusion.

There wasn't a lenghty pre-order process last year as there had been before, so there was no estimate of how many knives would sell. We paid up front and waited. The previous few years the numbers were in the 500 to 600+ range, so the quantity of knives purchased was reasonable. My guess is that what slowed sales down was mostly the price. I remember Spark posting that his cost had gone up considerably on these knives, so that got passed along to the buyers. A completely rational decision. Add to that the somewhat uninspiring dye job of the scales, the Corset shield, and the size of the knives, I think those things all add up to the soft sales numbers. Maybe the late date, and limited lead-up dampened anticipation a bit. Who really knows.

Some additional knives have been sold, I don't remember seeing an update on the number of leftovers.

I'm not being critical of the knife, the process, or anyone's sensibilities, it's what I think I saw.

Almost 200 knives sold. Preorders will stay open until all are sold or the knives arrive, whichever comes first

UPDATE 8/29 - PREODERS ARE LIVE, SEE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE TOP OF THE FORUMS.
Pretty sure that I participated in the 2024 preorder process?

We all did, sort of. In previous years there was a lengthy preorder process (usually) where the knife was decided on, a head count was taken, and then the knives ordered. When the knives were ordered from the vendor we paid. The 2024 knives were announced, and we paid full price at the time we ordered. There was no head count. I think Spark either purchased the entire run of knives, or had to commit to the full number, rather than purchasing the number of knives required to fulfil the commitments.

In any event it was a different process than previous years.

I think you blokes have hit a few nails right on the head .
It does appear that too many were ordered and as a community we Will need to absorb that penalty.
I tell myself that they will eventually sell...being of high quality ,being GEC and with their lburgeoning egendary status. I sincerely hope that Spark Spark Kevin fully recoups the loot.
Something is niggling the back of my brain and I want to clear it up.
I did the tube label meaning it as a heartfelt and respectful tribute to Kevin for the yards he has put in over many years on our behalf. I can see that maybe it reads as something like one of my fatuously comic rants...it does have a comicbook tinge...cowboys and dust storms etc. Let the record state : I hope that as usual I am wrong about this.

That said I just sold me old hilux so cashed up and looking at pocketknive
🤑🤔🫡
Cheers.

Can only speak for myself why I didn't get a 2024 Forum Knife.

During the pre-order process, I asked one simple question and I asked it twice.
How many springs will the 3-blade knife have, 2 springs or 3 springs?
Both times I asked the question I was totally and completely ignored altogether.

So why spend a couple or more Bennys on a knife without knowing simple characteristics?
Not only that but ignoring a paid member's simple question doesn't espouse what the forum knife idealistically stands for.
I chose not to support being ignored or buying an unknown and walked away.

Thing is, I still have no idea how many springs the knife has and at this point, I could not care less.

Understandable. I spent a fair few hours concocting the abovementioned label...sent the draft away for approval by The Boss, heard nothing back, sent it to Sue at GEC anyway...and there it is....👍.

If you're after a solid GEC Stockman ...standard 2 spring type...get one.. you will not be unhappy with it for 2 reasons:
Great knife...sure not cheap but show me gecs that are and I'll be yer best friend😃
AND It's hopefully a chance to help turn the tide for 2025...

There is a shadow on the mountain that portends doom.
Be of good cheer.

I've got to admit that I'm a little surprised that there are any still available. At this point they're available to everyone, there are no membership or post count requirements. $250 for a GEC Stockman seems to be more than reasonable.

As usual you're wrong about this. I read it as a kind of light hearted, irreverent musing over the process. Anyone who says otherwise, well, I'll spill their beer and call their dog a goat.

The scales were a GEC choice and, in my opinion, they were a mistake. They could have worked in a 50 piece limited run, but they lack broad appeal. Spark and the community deserved better, again in my opinion.

what is a hilux...???

I think we need at least 10 more pages of contributors weighing in on their rationale for not investing in a 2024 BF knife. Please be sure to complain about the cost, the process, the scales, the size, the shape, the weight, the number of blades, and the cost and process once more for good measure. We should ensure that all posts are as identical as possible.

Responses should begin, “why I didn’t get a 2024 forum knaf was on account of”.
