Hey Charlie waynorth waynorth . They offer several sizes of the Effile;

No. Blade Length. Overall Length
8. — 3.5 in. — 7.10 in.
10. — 4 in. — 9.05 in.
12. — 4.9 in. — 11 in.
15. — 5.9 in. — 13 in.

They are offered in Beech, Padouk, Olive, and Ebony. The number 10 seems to be out of Padouk, and the Ebony is way more expensive and only available in the number 10 size.

I just realized that another great feature of this plan is that everyone could order whichever size and wood choice they prefer. The Effile pattern would be the common denominator. It is only offered in stainless steel which I believe is preferable for what many of us would use as a steak knife.
Thanks for the details, Greg!! I agree that #10 in stainless will make the perfect Steak Knife!!
I hope Spark can see clear for us doing this for 2025!!

That's what I was thinking. Everybody does the same thing only different :p

I've been thinking for awhile that this was probably going to be the only way to do it this year. It could be done with Victorinox also. I just ordered an engraved Vic Cadet yesterday and played around with some other knives. The Army 1 (aka solo) can be had, engraved and shipped, for around $42.

Wow waynorth waynorth , that’s an elegant knife! I was unaware of the Effile pattern before abbydaddy abbydaddy posted about it a few days ago. It is definitely the best looking Opinel. I also hope Spark gives his approval. There would be no cost or work involved for him whatsoever.

I realize that an Opinel is not as special as a GEC. Some might be disappointed and hopeful of a different option. However, the Effile is a very attractive knife which is rarely seen. It really isn’t bad at all, especially given the low cost. At the very least we could keep the tradition alive for one more year in the hope that something better might develop next year. In any event, I believe there is no other possibility for this year, unless I am unaware of something.

Gary, Peregrin Peregrin , I am sure you are tired of me pushing this. But this idea is different; it is for each person to order their own knife directly from Opinel. All we need is the approval from Spark to etch the blade with the name Blade Forums. No one bears any risk, no one has any work to do, and it doesn’t matter how many or how few knives are sold. No volunteers necessary, and no one can lose money. This would just be a place holder to avoid breaking the long string of Forum Knives. Would you mind asking Spark?

Glad you like it, Greg!! I'd nearly forgotten it!! One of my safe queens!!! ;)
An Opinel would nudge us back near the days when we tried to keep prices down for Forum members!! I worked on a few for free, but I had the time, and it is hard to ask that of someone!! Obtaining less expensive knives is the way to go! Every Opinel I have ever gotten lived up to its reputation!!!

Charlie, waynorth waynorth , you have gone above and beyond for us on many occasions. It is unfair to continually ask the same people. I am just sorry they didn’t ask you to be a consultant on last year’s knife. If you had been involved in the process I really don’t think it would have gone so badly, and I doubt we would be in this position. A knife with even a tiny bit of your master’s touch would have flown off the shelves.

And yes, a knife in the $40 range is certainly a breath of fresh air! No one should be reluctant to slice their steak with it! I cannot wait to see the photos of the Effiles in use! If anyone wants a higher quality option, they can go for the Ebony version. That one goes for over $100. This exercise is making me wonder if I should even pay GEC prices anymore.

I ordered this MV Porchantic version today as a test. It cost $40 in Padouk and $4.50 for shipping. Opinel created a shipping label from Florida a few hours after I ordered it.

I'm a vegetarian, so this cow murdering weapon doesn't help me. Even the mere mention of the "S" word makes me shudder!

Oh Boy, I hope I hooked at least one of you.
I like this idea, and thanks for the research.

As for 30 words on a blade... I don't think it would look good. Best to keep it short and sweet... The words of Shakespeare would seem a fitting tribute to me for my tireless self sacrifices over the past few years.
"We happy few"...
from the bards Henry V...
and Blade Forum 2025 or whatever... I realize many will say... shakespeare? meako is vain, conceited and vain ..at best a talentless self aggrandising scribbler...or as my Australian mates ....and people from New Zealand would say... he's totally up himself...
but what would they know? 🫡
Lets hear from the Porch's head honcho....time to light the reed torches ,roll our trousers up ,sharpen the shovels and storm the castle...!

I'm probably missing the obvious, but what's the "MV" stand for?

mbkr mbkr , MW usually stands for Motor Vessel. However, meako meako might have a different interpretation. This is his world we are living in. All I hope is that we can avoid that iceberg.
Thanks! I learned something new
I was hoping it didn't mean More Velocity as that would be bad when dodging icebergs 😱
I had the Cadet I ordered engraved with Porch 2025. I'll post a pic when I get it. I'd be in for an Opinel.

What FONT did you order Leslie ??????

Maybe the forum knife will have to skip a year and jump straight to the 2026, considering it's August already. No shame in that. Personally I really like my 2024 forum knife and I'm considering ordering a 2nd.
