Keith Johnson Knives

Well when I get home today this one should be waiting for me. I asked Keith to make something a little out of his usual pallette of patterns.
With zero arm bending at all he readily accepted taking on this Scagel folder. I think he did a superb rendition.
The blade is D2. I believe the shield is hammered bronze, but Keith can correct me if I'm wrong.
A very nice tip of the hat to William Scagel done by a gentleman bladesmith.
Thanks Keith!

Keith,

I know you like to do different projects to keep your "juices" flowing, this is different and a wonderful testament to your skill.

Thanks guys,

The shield is silicon bronze.

Keith That is hands down one of the nicest Scagel type folders I've ever seen

Congrat's Corey. You've been getting some awesome stuff lately

It's about 4" closed.
Wouldn't that Scagel pattern look sweet in various micartas?

Keith,

Aren't those stag handles?

Jeff
The Scagel has stag handles. The pile side scale is unique because the grooves are filled with really hard pitch from the pine tree the stag used to rub the velvet off his antlers. I could smell the aroma as I worked with it and it's so hard I left most of it so it can wear off as Corey uses the knife.

It's like having one of those pine-tree air fresheners in my pocket. :D

I mailed this one off yesterday. It's a bit big for me but just right for it's new owner who named it the "Judge"

Keith,

Wonderful work as usual, I really like the handle material and the craftsmanship is superb!

Well, I am the proud owner of another one of Keith's creations. It's been sat in my pocket a few weeks now and it feels a very reassuring weight. It's a great looking knife, it feels quite substantial and it fills my hand well. It's the second Zulu pattern from Keith that I own - I think the Zulu pattern is my favourite pattern right now - it's a good cutter.

I believe Keith had a bit of trouble with the initial fancy steel I chose, so we went with Damasteel - which I think looks great and has a high contrast. It compliments the black and silver handle materials. I don't ever abuse steel, but Damasteel seems to be holding up pretty well and the grinds are nice and even. I thought I'd go for a shadow pattern this time around, and the linen micarta should prove quite durable. Keith also darkened the spring bar so that the blade and spring match up.

A nice concealed lanyard pin - which I prefer to a hole through the handle.
