Keith Johnson Knives

I recently mentioned to Keith I am often in the woods and have found at times that a fixed blade gets in my way. I don't like anything on my belt. My favortie method of carry is in the back pocket. So I wanted a big woods knife and I really like the LC pattern. I just love that big ole blade ever since I saw Tony Bose launch this pattern (thank you old dog). Keith started with a blank sheet of paper on this one. Nothing was really off the shelf as we even had problems finding handle material. I really wanted to use some of his great jigged bone. We eventually had to buy a "sheet" of vintage micarta (not cheap) because no one to our knowledge sold pieces of handle material large enough! Keith kept me in tune every step of the way. We named it "The Judge". I can't tell you what a gentleman he is to work with on a project. Blade steel is CPM 154. Hand sanded blade and satin finished bolsters. This knife is not a toy or show piece, it is made to use and it is scary sharp. It is a dream to carry, as I don't even notice it sitting or standing. Believe me it would make me a guilding if I front pocketed it! It is to scale on the orginal size LC. Blade is 5" and knife open is just over 11 3/8". You have to see the swedge to believe it. Keith has to hold his breath longer than any person I know while making this swedge. It is full grown! I have attached images comparing it to a couple of my other LC's which are in the standard size pattern. This thing will cut 6" infront of the blade just as I requested, it is sharp! Here you go.

Keith,

This is a tribute to your skills, size them up or size them down, all done with great aplomb! Wow, that even rhythms...

All kidding aside, excellent job on a GIANT Lanny's Clip.

Need one of these for my pocket!

I am adding a new knife Keith just finished for me. I think the ol' Dogs design is one of the best knives I have ever
seen and is my personal favorite. This is a "Barlow" variation that Keith and I designed and I feel he did a superior job creating this little Lanny's.
3-1/4" closed length, CPM154 blade steel, 416 integral frame, bushing and pre-ban Elephant Ivory covers.

Waiting for the postman,
Jeff

Oh boy do I like that! :-)

Jeff, that one is awesome.

Back in July I contacted Mr. Keith about making a Lanny's clip.
A few months down the road and a few emails later, Mr. Keith sent me an email entitled "finished".

This knife looks better then I imagined it would and I can't wait to have it in hand.
His pics of the knife are awesome, but I have the sneaking suspicion that it won't do the knife justice as it is.

Can't wait and thanks again Keith

Thank you Keith, I was going to send you an email to make sure it was okay that I used your pic.
Now I don't have to.

Can't wait.

Those Lanny's Clips look amazing! Fantastic craftsmanship.

My KR Johnson is much more utilitarian, but it works great and is very well-made. This one has been in my pocket for a couple of weeks now:

Keep up the excellent work.

For some reason I cannot get the Great River Forge website (in your signature) to open. Is anyone else having that problem?

Cheers.

Keith, all the knives just recently posted look outstanding! I really enjoyed talking the other day. Made me realize how much I miss our conversations. Hopefully our schedules will get back to normal sometime soon.

I'm thinking about a soddie!

Well it's about time I sit down and share my own opinion about Keith and his knives.

When I first contacted Keith so long ago, we had a small conversation about getting on his waiting list. He told me that he would be contacting me in a few months when my name came up on the list. And that, was that.
Needless to say a lot happened since that initial exchange and I forgot about being on the list, so when Keith e-mailed me that my name came up, and that he was already started on my knife, I was as excited as a beagle dog in a bunny patch. Another month or so passed and Keith had my knife finished. The pictures he sent through the process excited me all the more and when I got the knife it was almost as though this was meant to be.

I have never spent more money for a knife, but I have never had less buyers remorse.
When I got this knife it was almost as though I had received a gift from a good friend and I treasure it with as much love.

It takes a craftman like Keith to give a knife this kind of feel, this kind of comfortability.

Thanks for everything Keith
